The Boards -- AUDITIONS -- Saturday

Genesis would not deny that he was restless, not today. But it was a controlled restless that lent itself well to his inspecting the theatre, dropping more accounting work on Warren’s desk (he’d found more! Somewhere! Warren was going to be delighted with him) , and making a few phone calls to insure that things proceed apace in… other matters.

And now, auditions.

Now that ~~her mun had the tag tracked~~ things had calmed down a bit, Momoko was once again setting herself up in the back rows.

Of course this time she was wearing an 'official' Rhapsodos-sama fan-club button and was busy affixing a sign to the seat beside her that said 'reserved for fan-club members'.

Not that there were any besides her, but that was a technicality.

It had taken Juliet to the last day of auditions to make it to the theater. There were nerves, of course, but also it was so important to pick the right outfit and the right monologue, and there'd been an emergency manicure...

"Hi," she said, addressing the man who looked the most like a director. (He seemed very artistic.) "I'm Juliet Darling. Is this where we audition?"

It was peculiar, perhaps, but Genesis was not entirely surprised when he discovered what Miss Akatsutsumi was doing.

He'd experience with fans, after all.

"Miss Momoko," he said, his voice somewhere along the lines of 'mildly amused'. "What are you doing?"

"Miss Darling," he said, with a faint smile, as he gave her a considering look. "It is, indeed. I am Genesis Rhapsodos, the director."

HE'D REMEMBERED HER NAME! After so long? See, he was perfect!

Momoko froze for a moment, then turned with a grin and a salute. "Good Morning Director Rhapsodos! I'm just making sure that people know what section of the theater they are supposed to sit in when they come to watch you in rehearsals!"

Well, he mused, with a faint smile, she was startlingly honest.

"Oh?" he asked, arching an eyebrow at the sign. "I was not aware that there was call for that."

Sometime during the audition session, a creature nosed her way into the auditorium and padded up to Genesis.

Angelo barked, once, then waited expectantly, her tail wagging with excitement.

Dogs! Hey! She was here!

Genesis would, no doubt, be thrilled.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Rhapsodos" Juliet burbled, with the slightest of curtsies. "I'm so excited to have a chance to act here on the island. I've worked in New York -- well, really just school plays" -- that her father threatened to pull his donations over to get her a part -- "but I've been in a commercial, too. I've never sung professionally but I'm positive I can pick it up."

Oh yes, thrilled.

He stared down at the dog.

"Can I help you?" he asked, very very dryly.

Her enthusiasm was appealing to him. Genesis did appreciate those who were into what they did.

"I would be delighted," he murmured, "to give you the chance to do so. Most of those who've auditioned have little experience."

Angelo barked, again, before bolting towards the lobby. She returned at a full gallop, stopping expertly before she could bump into Genesis. (Hey, she was trained, here.)

In her mouth was a flyer. One that read Casting for DOGS!

Genesis could feel a headache sneaking up on him, he could.

He knelt down, gave his flyer a long look, and stared into the eyes of the, well, dog.

And resisted the urge to sigh.

"I must ask," he said, "if you're in your right mind."

Yet, it wasn't a question. Genesis quite firmly believed that the dog, the island, the gods--whoever he could blame for this--were laughing at him.

Angelo very carefully set the flyer on the ground. And then she barked once or twice before sitting herself down, positioning herself as carefully as if she might be graded on it.

She tipped her head back for a long, sustained howl. It was a completely wolf-worthy howl, if she did say so herself. It was followed by another, when the first died down.

This was possibly the singing part of Angelo's audition.

So it was probably "all of the above," Genesis.

"I'm afraid," he drawled, drawing himself back up. "That that hardly constitutes singing."

He was talking to a dog.

Who was trying to audition. He was allowed to drawl.

Angelo, for her part, flopped onto the ground and put her chin on her paws.

She was now giving Genesis very sad eyes. The kind that said that statements like that hurt, and she was going to give sad eyes until he was sorry.

There might even be a whimper involved.

"Well," Juliet said, with something like modesty, "I've had some advantages. And most of them aren't from New York, either."

Genesis had the gall to laugh.

"You wouldn't be able to handle the roles."

"No," he said agreeably. "They aren't. What would you consider an advantage, Miss Darling?"

Angelo whined, still looking up at Genesis with big eyes.

Okay, maybe she couldn't be a star (although, seriously, she was already a dog, how was she not a shoo-in) but that didn't mean she couldn't help, did it?

(and have a cheerful icon because I don't have any sad-eyed ones of angelo zomg)

"My family is sort of a big deal," Juliet said, stating it as a fact. "I'm used to paparazzi, cameras, all of that. I think I'm more aware of how to present myself than most people my age. And I've known I wanted to act since I was a little girl."
