Outside Caritas: After the 3 Minutes Dates [2-5-11]

After her final date, Millie made her way outside to meet up with Max. She felt very uncertain about it. The desperate longings she'd felt when they were together had faded as soon as she'd begun her last date and she wasn't entirely sure why. And she was more than a little embarrassed about how strongly she'd expressed her yearning to him. Still, she did like him and she had promised to meet him afterwards, so here she was.

Max was also feeling a bit awkward. Not that awkward. After all, Millie, he knew, wasn't really a regular player of his usual game, so maybe she hadn't picked up on just how... not smooth he'd been in there.

And, besides, now he had another shot.

And hopefully he could forget the... whatever it had been that he'd felt in there. And never think about it again.

"Hey, Millie." Max smiled as he approached, giving no sign of any awkwardness he might feel.

Millie smiled at him, pleased to see him despite her nervousness. "Max, hello. And how was your last date?"

It hadn't happened yet, but... "It went quite well, actually. What about yours?"

Neither had, hers, still... "He... had a hook.

If Millie weren't, well, Millie, Max would probably tease her about where said hook was, but... this was Millie. "Huh. Well, it's Fandom, right?"

"It is," she said with a smile. "And isn't it wonderful that even after all of the things we've seen and done, we can still be surprised!"

"Well, depends on the surprise," Max pointed out with a laugh. But he agreed, really.

"Of course," Millie said with a smile. "Still..." She hesitated, feeling that uncertainty creep up again. "So... what did you wish to do?"

Max smiled easily. "A walk? Then, perhaps, dinner?" And after that, well... this was Millie, so Max wouldn't try planning too much.

"That sounds lovely," she said with a smile. It was a bit cold, so she warmed up the air around her and after a moment's thought extended it around Max, too. Might as well be comfortable, no?

"Thank you," Max murmured after taking half a second to get over his surprise.

Then he offered her his arm. Might as well have fun with this, right. "Through town?" That would take them toward his place, and he could cook for her or something.

Millie took has arm with a smile and leaned into him ever so slightly. "That sounds marvelous. I do enjoy walking in the wintertime - as long as I can stay warm while I do!"

"Which seems to be something you're quite adept at," Max pointed out fondly.

She laughed. "I am, aren't I? In England I'm afraid I never felt quite warm enough so I learned this little trick then."

"Nothing wrong with that," Max pointed out. "In fact, it's very practical of you."

"I thought so," she said a bit smugly. "Um... you don't mind that I..." she gestured around them with a free hand, hoping he didn't mind she'd extended the warmth to him.

"Not at all," Max assured her. "In fact, it's appreciated." Not that Max didn't have his own ways of dealing with the cold, but this was quite nice.

"So... what have you been up to? It has been far too long since we spoke, after all."

"It has been some time, hasn't it," she said, blushing a little more. "Well, I'm afraid I haven't done much at all. I told you I can be a bit of a hermit. I work at the clinic on Saturdays, and at the store of course, and other than that, Proudfoot and I mostly hole up in the house - particularly in the winter."

"Ah, but Millie, that's so cruel. To deprive everyone of your lovely company."

Millie laughed. "You're quite the flatterer, but rather foolish. I don't believe anyone is pining away for lack of my presence!"

Well, she was right about the first two... "I can name at least one person," Max countered.

"Oh? she said, raising an eyebrow.

"Myself, of course." He glanced over at her with a playful smile.

She gave him a mock assessing glance. "You don't seem to have wasted away."

No, he was still a very fine figure of a man!

"I'm just good at faking good health," he teased.

"Or maybe it's just that now I've seen you again, and that's counteracted the effects."
