Nathan didn't notice anything was amiss right away. He thought her lack of answer was because he was doing what he was doing and she was momentarily speechless. Yeah, he was that egotistical sometimes.

Still, even someone as drunk and as egotistical as Nathan wasn't going to be oblivious forever. She was pressed so tight against him and so wrapped around him that noticing the tension was inevitable especially when it hadn't been there before.

"You all right?" he mumbled, dragging his mouth up one side of her neck and to her cheek, spending a few moments actually nuzzling against her cheek with his nose and cheek. Luckily, he'd closed his eyes for the moment. "Caroline?"
