Jessica could deny her hunger no longer. For hundreds of years she'd been cursed with this undead existence, hiding from the sun, living on the blood of rats because she couldn't bear to harm another living being. Then she'd stumbled across that bleeding body in a dark alleyway. There'd been nothing she could do to save the unfortunate victim of violence, but the scent of his blood made her lose control, and as his life drained away, she'd fed upon his blood.

And now the hunger had awakened inside her. She fought it as long as she could, but she'd been doomed the minute she'd taken that first sip of human blood. She needed to feed. She'd gorge herself this night and finally accept what she was.
