Magic Box, Friday, 9/16

All was normal in the magic shop today, and that was a relief; Tara took some time just to tour the store and make sure nothing was missing or locked up for her protection.

Once that was done, she settled in to unbox a new shipment of spellbooks. She leafed through them as she went. Half of them looked like balderdash to her, but there were a couple minor effects she might be eager to try.

She also put a sign in the window:

Shira was having a very productive day, one that also seemed to include wandering into the Magic Box.

And noticing the sign on her way in.

And then working up the courage to approach the young woman in the shop.

"Hey," Tara said, softly. She knew how to recognize shy when she spotted it. "Anything I can help you with?"

"I was just passing by and I saw the sign in the window," Shira explained. "And I've never been in here before, so hey, two reasons to come in." She gave Tara a grin.

"Oh!" Tara said, smiling back. "Well, this is the shop, and the staff right now is, um ... me. Are you a witch, or just sort of generally interested?"

"I'm a witch," Shira replied. "Probably not like you are, though."

She was assuming on that one, based on the whole working in a Magic Shop thing. She was also hoping she hadn't just offended the person that could amount to her future boss.

"Pretty much nobody here is a witch like I am," Tara said, with a slight smile. "I'm the herbs and spells kind, not the type that's just born with powers."

"There are always more of those," Tara said, though she didn't sound like she minded. "So ... did you want to hear more about working here? Because I could definitely use some help."

"Most of the time it's calm," Tara said, as she started to lead Shira through the store. "I mean, it's the island, but the weird isn't usually anything you can't handle. Um, one time I got rabbits randomly popping out of a hat. That was sort of cute."

She showed off the sections: Books, herbs & other spell components, candles, crystals, a few pieces of ceremonial clothing, some teas and healing drinks. "Not all of these are part of my practices," she said carefully, as she was wrapping up. "But you still want to be careful, right? You never know what's more powerful than it seems. Not that I think you wouldn't be careful, just ... I learned that one the hard way a few times."

"You definitely want to be careful," Shira agreed. "I mean, even if it's not more powerful than it seems, we're still in Fandom. Who knows what this place might do wacky things to?"

"And when things are already magic on their own ..." Tara added. "It can get wacky, yeah. But usually it's the fun kind of wacky."

"If it's usually the fun kind of wacky, I could definitely deal with that," Shira said. "Even if it's the un-fun kind of wacky, I could deal with. Or at least, I could probably figure out how to make it stop. Maybe."

"Or you can walk out, close the door, and figure it'll go away before your next shift," Tara suggested. "Which it usually does."

"Well, there's always that. But I'd kinda prefer not to just run out on it," Shira said with a laugh. "I'd feel bad if there was any mess caused -- feel bad for the person who came in next, that is."

"Well..." Shira thought for a moment. "You're here Fridays, right? So that's out. And I have classes on Mondays and Fridays, so I'd like to keep Mondays free. But... any other day, I could do. How's Wednesday sound?"
