The Devil's Nest [Friday night]

Eric suspected that more than a few people would be looking for a place to drown their sorrows tonight, and with the sun setting earlier now, he was happy to accomodate them by opening the club a few hours earlier than usual.

Because he wanted their money, not because he felt badly for them or anything.

Perish the thought.

Jamie had started his drinking back at the office. However when the emergency flask was empty, it was easier

"I'll take... Oh, just give me a bottle of vodka and a shot glass," Jamie said as he sat down at the bar. Or at least he attempted to sit down at the bar. He missed the stool and landed on the floor creating another drunk duplicate.

"Make that two bottles. And two glasses."

Her worlds - all the related worlds - were gone. Millie had worked late into the night last night exhausting every possible option until she'd had to accept that. It was clear from the radio that this was not limited to her series of worlds and, despite the Dean's brave words, Millie knew there was no guarantee the people of Fandom would escape this time. One's luck had to run out at some point, didn't it?

Still, escape or no, Millie had spent a good deal of the day thinking seriously about her life and all the things she had left undone because of rules and restrictions and concern of what others both here and at home might think of her. And she'd decided that that was no way to live. Especially not if there was a good chance her life could end abruptly in the near future.

Then she'd made a list. Item One: Spend the night drinking herself silly at a bar.

"Bartender? Something strong, but delicious, please."

There. That was a good start.

Today Jaina had hit overload. Between the message from before and the email from Portalocity and Tahiri and then going to put names on the board and seeing who'd been added over the last couple days... She didn't know what to do with any of it anymore.

Except Tahiri. She hadn't taken that well.

And apparently Eric had become her to-go guy for when she couldn't process something anymore, which was why she greeted him with a hollow sort of, "You remember that whole 'happy to distract me' thing?"

Eric took one look at her face and stood up to hug her.

She didn't even question why a badass Viking vampire would feel the need to hug her. She took it as confirmation that she probably looked the way she felt. And if she hugged him kind of tightly, she knew he could take it. "Thanks."

"You looked like you could use it," he said. "What happened? Do you need to me to leave right now?"

She shook her head, pulling away a bit. "It all comes down to the board being a very bad place now."

Max had been spending most of his nights recently somewhere drinking. And tonight was no different.

Though he was surprised to find Millie there. It wasn't the sort of thing he really thought of her as doing, after all.

That didn't stop the smile from settling across his face.

"Who did you see on it?" Eric asked, pulling her along to sit next to him.

"Max!" Millie smiled cheerfully and waved at him with her drink. "Come join me!"

She sat, more automatically than anything. "I got a call from a friend. More family, really," she said. "When I went to put her on the board, there were also additions there for my mom and little brother. Both alternate realities from mine." That sort of thing needed clarification here.

Well, he wasn't one to turn down an invitation.

Max walked over with an easy grin. "Millie. It's been a while, huh?" Which was a shame.

"I do believe it has," she said with a smile. "That's too bad, isn't it? I do enjoy spending time with you. Especially since we usually end up kissing and such."

Someone was on her second Long Island iced tea and was gesturing to the bartender for another.

Max quirked an eyebrow. That was pretty forward for Millie, but that was okay.

"You're right," he chuckled. He signaled to bartender for a drink of his own before turning to Millie. "So what are we drinking?" he asked.

Max wasn't picky, he was just curious.

"Shit," Eric said usefully. "I'm sorry."

"Um..." she looked down at her glass as if perhaps the answer was written there. "I don't remember."

She smiled and waved to Tiny. "He knows. But I can assure you it is quite tasty and I believe very strong. Those were my requirements, you know."

"Yeah?" Max shifted to stand a bit closer to her, letting his arm press against her shoulder. "And how many have you had so far?"

He wasn't about to ask why she was drinking. That much, at least, he could guess.

"I want someone's ass to kick for this," Jaina decided. She didn't feel it just yet, but she knew what her response would usually be, and she found the words easy enough.

"Um..." This time she looked to Tiny for help. He slid another glass over to her, raising an eyebrow at Max before holding up three fingers.

"Oh, yes! This is my third! So very nice. And wait now, what do they say in the books again?" She tapped her fingers thoughtfully on her lips as she tried to remember. "'You've got a ways to go to catch up.' Yes, I think that's it!"

"Want me to find you a gnome?"

He'd just pick one out at random. He was a giver that way.

Max laughed. "I don't know if that's really fair to you," he pointed out. "I've got a lot more practice at this than you do."

But he nodded to get a couple of extra drinks for himself.

He didn't mind catching up, after all.
