Ching Tai, Tuesday evening

Bruce had been less than clear-headed when he made a follow-up date with Darcy on Valentine's Day. He was hoping she didn't read too much into that. Still, it meant it was a night for something at least slightly fancy. The Chinese place would do for that.

He took a seat, waited, and tried not to let all of the frustrations of the day lead to him chatting up the hostess while he waited. He was trying to be at least SLIGHTLY classy, which wasn't easy this week.

Bruce had overestimated Darcy by a just a bit and this was a bit fancier than she had expected. But food was food, and male company was even better than that, so Darcy wasn't going to complain. She was going to walk over and join Bruce instead.

"So where are we on the drink buying equation?" Darcy asked instead of you know, hi.

"Drinks are fine, but they should probably stay on a certain safe part of the table," Bruce said. "You look great tonight."

Also not a hi, but Bruce was just getting running starts this week.

"Aw, I'm not allowed to make a fool of myself twice?" Darcy said and pouted. "And thanks, you clean up pretty good yourself." She may have tried for some sort of an accent there. Good luck guessing which.

"I might want to argue with that third one." Darcy informed him. "Let's see. I'm from the middle of nowhere, I hate science with a passion, and I once tasered Thor. You?" The you was rather perky.

"As in the god of thunder?" Bruce checked matter-of-factly, before moving on. "I'm from a big city that probably doesn't exist in your world, come from a wealthy family, and helped fight a giant robot here in Fandom once. No deities, though."

Darcy shook her head. "No Gotham City that I've heard of. Wrong comic verse Where's it supposed to be located? And I just had a summer internship that went weird." Slight understatement.

"Depends on who you ask. For me it's a little upstate from New York. Other people are from a similar Gotham in Jersey. I heard of one in Illinois. Each world it appears in seems to have pretty much the same people doing pretty much the same things there, though."

"I don't know if you've been in Fandom long enough for any of that to make sense to you yet."

Darcy would have argued that any continuation of the evening was also totally worth the wait, but her mouth was otherwise occupied and she really did want to avoid breaking the table or anything on it.

"Works for me," he said when he needed air. He dropped some money on the table to pay for whatever, then stood up and reached for Darcy's hand.

Not bad for a Valentine's date. Not bad at all.
