It was almost a week past Cinco de Mayo, which meant that Tiny was almost done twitching any time tequila or margaritas were mentioned.

You were on your own if you said something about the mariachi band.

Eric was in the back, drinking vodka and ignoring Tiny's grumbling. Just another Friday night at the Devil's Nest.

After another really fun (if you were totally lying), Jaina went back to her quarters and made a call. Because she could, dammit.

Which would be why Eric's phone was ringing.

Eric glanced down at the number before answering. "Hello, Jaina."

[solo_sword]

"Hi! Be normal at me, please," she greeted him.

Because when you wanted normal, naturally your first call is to the thousand-year-old vampire hanging out in Fandom.

"If I hum cheerful Mexican songs near Tiny he twitches uncontrollably," he replied. "Does that help?"

"Yes. Though it does beg the question of why you're doing that," Jaina said.

"Because it's funny and I'm bored," Eric said.

[solo_sword]

Yeah, she should have figured. "It's a good thing I called then," she said. "Tiny can thank me another time."

"What to hum?" he asked. "I can put you on speaker..."

"I think I'll skip that part," Jaina laughed. "How are things there?"

"Relatively uneventful," Eric said. "I need a new day person."

[solo_sword]

"No more Joan? Is this going to get in the way of my dirt deliveries?" You always made sure to ask the important questions.

"I'll make Tiny do it until I find another person."

Tiny looked thrilled. Truly.

"And I'll thank him for that later," she said. Maybe. "...It's probably bad that this is normal, huh?"

"You did call a vampire who lives in Fandom," Eric pointed out. "Why do you need normal?"

[solo_sword]

"Well, things are weird," she grossly understated. And it was kind of nice to be able to talk to someone who didn't know what was coming and wasn't as entrenched in things here.

"How weird?" Eric asked, stretching his legs out and getting more comfortable.

[solo_sword]

"Uh. My brother's turning evil, my parents are on the run again, my partner got stabbed, and now I work for an old boyfriend who hates me," Jaina said. "Oh, and I have a great-grandkid going to school there. That weird."

There was a long pause.

"Yes, that's weird," Eric agreed. "Your partner got stabbed?"

"With a lightsaber, too," she said with a nod. "It was an accident, and he'll be fine, but I might be doing all the heavy lifting for a while."

Because sure, Zekk would let that happen considering who they were working with.

"Don't you do most of that with your brain anyway?" Eric wondered.

[solo_sword]

"If I have to. I'll do it without the Force as long as it's not ridiculous." Thank you, Mara's training.

"What do you consider to be ridiculous?" Eric asked, genuinely interested.

[solo_sword]

"Ridiculous not to, I should say," she said. "And it depends on the situation. If something needs more precision somehow, or if I'm dealing with something too big to hold comfortably, or if I'm in the middle of something that might take a long time, then using the Force is a no-brainer, because the body has limitations. I can't turn it off or anything, but I don't need to use it for everything."

Eric nodded. "Just because I can pick up a trailer and toss it into a tree doesn't mean I need to every day," he offered.

Oh, Eric. "And good, because that might get costly."
