The Perk, Wednesday Early Evening

One of April's many (slightly creepy) hobbies was sitting in a coffee shop and staring at passersby. Not looking. Staring.

It was actually one of her favorite activities. There were no words to describe the pleasure that April got from following someone with her eyes from all the way across the street, casting a judgmental look in the person's direction every time they stumbled or picked their nose. That, that right there -- it was pure bliss, plain and simple.

Or it was just a fun way to spend an evening. Whatever.

That was what April was doing this evening, at any rate. Nursing a coffee (which had improved significantly since the last time she'd come here, thank you so very much, barista) and staring at people. Fun, no?

[[very, very open.]]

A man could not, in fact, live on wine alone, and over the last nine months Tyrion had developed quite a taste for caffeinated beverages.

He had not, however, lost any of his sensitivity about being watched. So, when he passed April's table on the way to the one he'd decided was his own and noticed her staring, he shot out a slightly irritated, "I'm not going to do a trick, you know."

"I might be holding off until we know each other better," Tyrion offered, but now he was curious. "I've not seen you before, have I?"

"I can't, and I haven't even bothered drilling peepholes," Tyrion said. Because that was comforting.

"I'm Tyrion Lannister. I got here last September."

"No," Tyrion said. "The pony bit was this weekend, and thank you for reminding me. Did it hit you as well?"

He'd also been dead overnight, but that seemed a bit much to drop on someone at first meeting.

"Please tell me it was because she was a pony, and not because that's the custom where she comes from," Tyrion asked, before something else occurred to him. "You bought a bar? Which one?"

"That's the one I don't go into as often," Tyrion shared. "It tends to be overrun with students."

"No, but they let me do it here anyhow," Tyrion said. "What are you, back where you're from?"

Tyrion had to give it some thought. "Rich man's younger son," he finally said, with a slight air of apology. "The place where I'm from doesn't have jobs the way they do here."

Not for nobles, anyhow.

"Actually yes," Tyrion said, surprised but not bothered by the question. "Casterly Rock. It's more a fortress than a castle, they carved the bloody thing into a rocky hill."

"The slang one, at the moment," Tyrion said. (He supposed his word choice was British by April's standards; he knew people kept telling him his accent sounded that way. Why different worlds would share not just a language but an accent was a mystery better left to wiser men.) "Why, are you from a place that's literal-bloody?"

He didn't think so; nothing about the girl spoke of war. But he'd been surprised before.
