It was a completely pissed off Cade at the shop today--getting detention just for blowing off Ender's class was completely unfair plus it didn't count to stop Irony because he'd already done it--and his mood was not improved when he was hit by a barrage of lemons as he entered the store.

"KARKING BITE ME," he snarled at the ceiling.

The store was open, but the customer service would be terrible. Even for Cade.

"Hello Cade," Yeul said serenely as she entered the shop. "I brought you coffee."

Cade was still glaring at the ceiling.

"...oh."

Such a polite young man!

Very polite! Yeul was noticing. She set the coffee on the counter and followed his... well, glare.

"Did the ceiling offend you?" she asked lightly.

"It dropped lemons on me," Cade groused. "They karking hurt."

"I'm sorry," Yeul said sincerely. "That was very bad of it. Are you injured?"

"I got hit in the head, so I'm pretty sure most people would say 'you can't tell,'" Cade said.

She smiled slightly. "And what would you say?"

"Lemons karking hurt, but it's not exactly life threatening," he replied.

“Thank you,” she said. “Do you think the ceiling did it on purpose?”

"Yes," Cade said. "The ceiling hates me."

Pause.

"Anywhere else and I'd sound insane."

"Quite possibly," Yeul conceded. "Though I am sure there are stranger worlds out there."

"Not many with rain of produce," Cade said with a snort.

Yeul tilted her head. "You may be right, but... how would you know?"

"Well, I've gone to a fair number of planets," Cade said. "Pretty sure someone would have mentioned it."

"It is possible," she said agreeably. "Do you like to travel, since you have visited so many places?"

"I like to keep moving," Cade agreed, nodding. "Haven't really stayed in one place too long."

"Do you like living that way?" Yeul asked. "I enjoy traveling, though this is the first time I've been off-world, but staying here has not been bad."

"I've never really thought about it," Cade said. "It's just how I lived--never long enough in one place to really get caught."

"Caught?" she echoed curiously.

"Politics," Cade summarized, infusing a lot of bitterness into that one word. "My dad wasn't all that popular." He shrugged. "And then they killed him, so solved that problem."

"And you have been on the run since then?" she asked gently. "I am sorry, though I know that sentiment is unlikely to help."

"Then I got picked up by a pirate crew," Cade said. "They're not much for staying still either."

He ignored the sympathy--he didn't really know what to do with it.

Yeul noticed but said nothing about it.

"A pirate crew," she said thoughtfully. "Did you enjoy that?"

"What's not to like?" Cade asked with a cocky smile that was mostly bluster.

"I can think of a few things," she said gently. "But if you wish to let that answer stand, I will abide by that."
