This was a joke, right? Alec looked down at the boxes that had just arrived.

They were clearly costume weapons -- some collapsible swords, some plastic toy guns, the odd fake bow -- but he couldn't figure out what the deal was with the colorful staffs attached to handles meant to look like metal, with on and off switches that made the staffs light up and glow. Seriously, what were they? And why would anyone fight with such brightly-colored, obvious, noticable weapons? Especially when they were so long. Who wanted to carry those around?

Alec had a lot of questions. Even though they were just costumes. He eyed the box for a long time after setting up a halfhearted display. Maybe too long a time.

"So this is where you work," Isabelle noted like a perceptive person as she came in and took a look around. And then another look. "... Toy weapons?"

"Halloween, I think," Alec explained with a heavy, judgmental sigh. "It's ridiculous. You'd think they could sell these at a toy store, instead of here."

Isabelle was looking a little bit judgmental as well.

She reached for one of the swords anyway. "Maybe they don't have one."

"I don't know," Alec granted. Please, like he cared about that sort of thing. "But still. This is stupid. They look like the kind of toys mundies bring into Pandemonium."

"Well, let them play," she said lightly as she inspected the sword. She could've probably still hurt someone with it, plastic and collapsible though it was. "Since they don't have to do it for real."

"You'd be surprised how often they try," Alec noted. "Every time there's some kind of flaming pepper invasion or surprise trip into a dungeon, they come running."

God, he had missed having the opportunity to be so bitchy on a regular basis. It was wonderful.

"How often do these invasions and dungeon trips happen, anyway?" Isabelle wondered. Less negatively curious than your average person but that was a given. "I'm yet to see anything that interesting."

"The dungeon trip was just the once, but there were comparable things before that," Alec said thoughtfully. "There was an alternate reality I wasn't crazy about about a year and a half ago."

His tone was mild, but - yeah. He hadn't enjoyed himself. He'd preferred the dungeon.

"Invasions, maybe once a quarter. You'll probably see one soon."

Honestly, it was his own fault for bringing it up. "There was a... dictator of sorts running the town," he explained vaguely. "She was a 'witch,' I guess." You could practically hear the air-quotes. "She mind-controlled a lot of people. Jace and some others."

Trust him to say it that way.

"The whole thing was solved by people kissing in a weird, um, kissing room on the sixth floor."

"Well, that explained why Jace hasn't brought it up."

Although Isabelle would, were he ever to get mind-controlled again. You know. Not that that was likely, really.

She shrugged. "So a wannabe warlock made people kiss. It doesn't sound so bad."

Oh, of course not. Jace would never get mind-controlled. That was just silly.

"Well," Alec said, slightly miffed that she didn't seem impressed by the sheer Trauma of it. "One of the, uh, people who had to be kissed was a demon."

Check out the blush that was blossoming on his face, Izzy. Could you guess who the other one was?

She was honestly not sure how to react to that.

Alec put his head in his hands. He mumbled something that sounded a little like, "Not by choice."

"Well I should hope not," Isabelle scoffed. Because even Isabelle didn't kiss demons.

"But it helped, right?"

She was just not showing it great.
