The Perk- Monday afternoon

Why did Jaina keep coming back to this town again? Right, the people.

Of course she'd wasted the weekend by being crazy again, and she was going to have to tell her boyfriend about how she'd almost married her ex in a way that would hopefully sound not too bad, and now she was trying to schedule a new portal since she'd missed hers last night. Of course that wasn't going as planned, because it never did.

So if you happened into the Perk you'd see Jaina with her coffee and her phone, but you might also hear her muttering threats about destroying Portalocity and all it stood for. So... same old, same old.

"Well that was a reason why I don't come back here," Luke said, flopping into a chair.

"Tell me you did something embarrassing," Jaina said.

"I declared my never-ending devotion to someone, it's clear today, was a guy in a terrible wig," Luke said.

"At least it wasn't Grace Winchester?" she tried.

"There's that," Luke admitted. "How about you?"

"Tried to get married again. Also, I had a girl in a baseball cap pretending to be the baby I stole last time to get the inheritance from my last husband of four seconds," Jaina said, making a face.

Luke burst out laughing. "This town," he said.

"I swear, my next wedding better be for real," Jaina grumbled.

"Can I recommend not holding it here?" Luke replied.

"Ugh. It'd probably rain something gross or we'd all turn five," she said. "Not that that is happening anytime soon, if at all."

"If at all?" Luke repeated. "Really?"

"Our entire relationship has been long distance and shows no signs of changing," Jaina said with a shrug. "I'm being realistic."

"I'm sorry," Luke said sympathetically. "But you love him, right?"

"Definitely," she said immediately. "There's nothing to be sorry for, though. Either it works out or it doesn't. I hope it does, but we'll see what happens."

Luke smiled. "I have faith."

Of course he did.

"And to think, you don't even know him," Jaina said with a little smile.

"I know you," Luke said, "and you work hard for something you really want."

"Yeah, but it's more complicated in this case," she admitted.

"Oh no," Sam said, overhearing some of that muttering and turning away from the counter where she had been waiting for her drink. "What have we done now?"

She was sympathetic. She had no doubt that Jaina's struggle was real.

"I missed my portal yesterday due to my storyline being 'to be continued' and now it looks like the ones I can get out are twice as expensive and take me through a zombie apocalypse," Jaina said, looking over at her.

Eleanor was only in town to run a few brisk errands, but when she recognized the girl at the Perk, she had to stop.

"Hello," she said, in a halting British accent that was far different from the flat American one she'd had over the weekend. "I ... don't know you? But I wanted to say I was sorry, for being ... horrible."

Atton had reassured her that this was simply what people did, for the weekend, but she'd caused several scenes at this Jaina's wedding, and that at least merited an apology.

Jaina even gave her a little smile for that. "You must be new," she said. "It happens, nothing to worry about."

"I was told that this morning," Eleanor said, returning the smile with visible relief. "I'm sorry that your wedding turned into such a disaster."

Oh, wait, it'll catch up with her any second now.

"... It wasn't ... a real wedding, was it?"

"No," Jaina said quickly. "And this is the third time I've had one on one of these weekends."

And then, "We aren't actually related, are we?"

"Not so far as I know," Eleanor said. "I spent the weekend calling myself Skywalker and scheming against -- werewolves, I believe. My real last name is Lamb."

She hesitated. "Are you from Rapture?"
