Book Haven, Wednesday, 5/21
Alana decided she hated the window displays the second she got to work. All the books in it had stupid covers and stupid titles and stupid blurbs on the back. She tried to put together a better one, but it seemed like there were hardly any books in the store that weren't ugly and boring. Finally she gave up on the project and just stacked the books into a pyramid so none of the covers showed, adding a sign in front of the pile.
We have books here.
Some of them might not suck.
That task more or less accomplished, she spent much of the rest of her shift in a wary stand-off with the phone. She held it together for the first couple calls, but if it rang with one more irritating customer -- and they were all irritating -- she was going to lose it.
