Devil's Nest, Tuesday, Dec. 2

"I know you missed me," Jack teased Tiny as he stashed his coat and hat and rolled up his sleeves for a day's work. "But yesterday was a drop-dead date on something for school, so I switched my shift for the week."

Tiny ... grunted. He was a barkeep of few words, and he didn't see the point of worrying about Jack's exact whereabouts to begin with.

In other words, it was another normal Monday at the Devil's Nest. It just happened to be a Monday that took place on Tuesday.

Eric was there and drinking his usual (True Blood and SoCo), eyes distant.

If anyone noticed, they were staring toward Ingvar. Something...itched...at his skin the last two nights.

"Hellloooo."

Guess who had a day off? Go on, guess. Okay, it was Kate, traipsing to the bar.

Kate didn't really notice. But she'd only just shown up, and her enthusiastic little wave was distracting her, anyway.

"Hello hello hello, it's your favorite girl from Kansas checking in!"

"You're quiet today," Jack noted on one of his passes through the section. Not that quiet was exactly what he meant -- this felt somehow more troubled -- but it was the word that came closest.

Eric snapped back to the present immediately. "Hi there! How's the car?"

"Something feels off," Eric admitted. "More supernatural beings around than usual, maybe?"

"Still in one piece." Because now that she had an actual car of her own, she'd reverted back to driving like a careful old lady. Her Mom still made fun of her. "And much, much loved."

"Hey there," Jack grinned at her. He had no idea why Kate was on the island, but it hardly mattered. "If this is a birthday visit, you're almost two weeks early."

Jack glanced away, sniffed the air. "It could be," he said, as if distracted by what he found. "I've been so busy a herd of demons could be parading through town and I wouldn't have noticed. But now that you mention it --"

He shrugged. There was something.

Like Kate needed a real reason, anyway.

"This is not a birthday visit, because if this was, I would've remembered to bring you a gift, and I didn't, so this isn't." That was great logic. "But I will try and remember that for two weeks from now."

"Get me something good and I'll forgive you," Jack said, meaning it not at all. "How are you, anyhow? What brought you to town?"

Kate shrugged. "Had a day off, and I got a coupon thingy from the Portalocity office back at my airport. I'm not sure I've ever needed more of a reason to drop by."

For all that she'd whined about this island while she'd lived here, she sure ended up coming back a lot.

Well if it wasn't his nephew's little packmate. Really, Peter should have killed him when he had the chance.

But. You know.

Burned bridges.

Peter tapped his fingers against the bar, smiling pleasantly.

Jack raised his eyebrows at the visitor. "You're dead."

That ... wasn't quite how he was supposed to greet guests.

"Best reason I can think of," Jack said easily. "And much better than 'the world's ending, let's all pack onto the island!'."

He moved back toward the bottles. "Would you like a drink?"

"Am I? I hadn't noticed the being engulfed in flames and my throat slit," Peter replied.

"Oh good, you remember," Jack said easily. "How are you here?"

Peter shrugged. "One of those things."

"Please don't tell me you've named it," Eric said.

Eric nodded. "Until it tries to screw up the bar, I don't care."

Eric's life-long philosophy, really.

"Always," she replied with a grin. "But nothing too strong. Gotta go to work again tomorrow."
