The Perk, Saturday mid-morning

Cade's portal had arrived a bit later, but only because he'd gotten to have a layover for five hours in a karking men's truck stop bathroom. He would never be clean again.

"Coffee," he told the barista with a glower. "So. Much. Coffee."

He slumped into a seat and glared at all of the unfamiliar faces outside the shop. Ugh. Fandom. Hopefully most of those people weren't karking relatives.

Jake might have just gotten his memory of Fandom back, but that only meant that the Perk was even clearer in his mind. The Perk had coffee. He needed coffee.

He stumbled into the Perk, looking lost, bewildered and very in need of caffeine.

"Coffee?"

Sparkle desperately needed to be anywhere, right now, doing something. Trying to get his shit in order, trying to figure out which way was up... That sort of thing.

Up was hard when the world was a little bit upside-down, and he still had no idea what the hell he was doing, either here or back in Toronto, but--

A familiar face on the other side of the Perk window had him taking a quick veer inside. Partly because Cade. Partly because coffee.

Maybe a large part because coffee.

He'd be with you in a moment, Cade. Sparkle needed to order a coffee roughly the size of his head, first.

Chloe had figured that the portal she'd seen would take her to Fandom, but she wasn't expecting to see someone else she knew here. "Jake?"

Jake gave her a confused look, which slowly changed into one of delighted recognition. "Chloe?"

"Jake!" she said again, but this time it was accompanied by a squeal and a hug. "You're here oh my god hi!"

"Oh my god!" Jake agreed, hugging her back. "Just. One moment," he added, because his coffee was ready, and this was definitely a need coffee moment. Once he'd drunk half the cup however he looked at her again.

"You look great! How've you been? How long has it been? I can't believe I forgot--" He shook his head. "How are you doing? Still a journalist?"

You'd think he hadn't seen her in ten years or something.

"Coffee," Cade confirmed, waving to the barista. "This one's mine."

Cade had his face practically stuffed into his own mug, so he completely understood.

Mmm, coffee.

Jake saw the fairness in this. He waited for Cade to get his coffee, then ordered his own.

He gave Cade a long caffeine-deprived look. "...I don't know you, do I? I mean, I haven't forgotten that I know you, right? Please don't tell me that we used to be best friends."

Brooke hadn't meant to be here, so there had to be some shopping so she had things, and booked a hotel because Fandom stuff was never just a day, and then came for coffee because dear lord did she need it.

"How much for all your coffee?" Brooke asked the barista. "I'll pay anything."

Aaaand now, coffee in hand, Sparkle was kind of shimmying over and flopping into a seat nearby.

"I bet that doesn't have nearly enough booze in it to meet your morning quota," he snarked. Because that was like 'hello' almost.

"Oh, I don't know you at all," Cade assured him. "I'm Cade. Are you new?"

"Since there's some coffee in the cup, nope," Cade confirmed. "Hey."

"Some of that's for the rest of us--" Cade stopped halfway. "Jaina?!"

"Oh, I forgot how much I hated that," Brooke sighed, turning to face him. "Brooke. Jaina's the boring one."

"Apparently I'm very old," Jake said, slowly. "I'm Jake. I went to school here about a million years ago. You?"

The million years might be a slight exaggeration.

"Hey," Sparkle replied, giving Cade the universal bro-nod. "You know, the place that serves the coffee that's really booze is actually down the street, right?"

And probably wasn't open this early in the day, but pff, details.

"Went to school here a few years ago. Still have relatives kicking around because this island karking hate me," Cade said.

"It wasn't open yet," Cade said. "I'm going to kick Tino's ass for it, too."

"She's pretty much my great-aunt," Cade offered, "so if that makes you feel better, I think of her as being suuuuuuper old."

"That is so much better," Brooke smiled. "Who are you?"

"Oh, yeah? Like who?" Jake is maybe more concerned with his coffee than Cade's answer.

"That's probably the best thing for it. Make sure he's more on the ball for tomorrow, that sort of thing." Sparkle took a mouthful of his coffee. "How have you been, man?"

"Like Anakin Karking Skywalker," Cade offered, sipping from his own mug of coffee that was black like his soul.

"I have a ship and a crew and sometimes enough credits to move off of a planet and get another gig," Cade said, "so...not bad. You?"
