Luke's, Monday

"When the hell you guys gonna take these skeletons down?" Eliot asked as he came into the diner for the day.

"¡Ah, señor!" The dishwasher started, only to cut himself off when Eliot raised his hand.

"You're central Asian, man. And your accent's terrible. These are clearly Halloween skeletons, not Día de Muertos, and unless you're plannin' to spend the day in the cemetery honorin' your ancestors, I don't wanna see a single damn sugar skull in here, anyway."

The busboy sulked at him. "Why do you hate fun?"

Eliot just rolled his eyes and went to go set up the specials menu for the day.

Today's specials
Tired of sweets yet? Try some
Shepherds pie
Sauteed kale
Savory roasted butternut squash

Luke's was open.

"Hey, Eliot," Vic said as she meandered over to the counter. "Rumor on the street is that you hate fun."

Or she just heard the busboy complaining. Same thing.

"Oh, you know. The same old stuff," Vic said taking a seat on a stool. "People calling and complaining about the weird stuff they can't handle. I had one woman call in and request that I arrest the fireplace that appeared in her room. How about you?"

"Sounds like a full playbook," Vic said looking impressed. "What'd you do to the asshole in Chicago?"

"Back when I was on the force in Philly, I probably would have beat the shit out of him while the rest of my squad looked the other way," Vic commented. "But that FBI thing is good too."

"Oooo. Vigilante justice," Vic said wiggling her fingers at Eliot. "I'm impressed. You and my old boss would get along just fine."

She stretched a little bit and sighed happily. "You got anything good on the menu today? I spent the weekend eating all the Halloween candy and could go for something almost healthy."

"Just as long as the meat isn't from an actual shepherd, I'm in," Vic said slapping her hand down on the table. "And some coffee would be good too."
