Luke's, Friday evening

Parker was avoiding all that stuff about the students' parents being here this weekend. Partly because what little she knew about most of her former students was that she didn't want to meet their parents unless she got to kick them, and it was all just oogy.

Meanwhile, there was comfort food. And comfort ice cream.

SPECIALS
Decadent Ghirardelli Chocolate Milkshake
Godiva Trufflata
Bananas Foster

Luke's was open.

[ooc: and up late, and expecting a few people. Feel free to mod your service if you want a late-evening snack.]

"You know, we usually like to have some protein on that specials menu. Somewhere." Eliot had spent most of the day getting both the loft and his house spotless for Nana. And Luke's, as spotless as you could get a working diner, anyway. He leaned into the kitchen as he went past. "One of y'all get me a bananas foster. And -- add some rum."

Sure, he'd already met Nana. But now Nana was coming into his space, and he had to make sure she knew it was good enough for her boy.

"Her taste buds maybe," Eliot said. "Her heart. . . ?" Maaaaybe not. "She gave me some of her recipes when we were in Chicago. But then -- you know -- she's comin' all the way here to eat her own food. . . ."

He wasn't used to this part. How long had it been since he'd had a home base to even invite important people into?

"Parker, breathe." Said the guy who had been quietly doing his own freaking out since Hardison first talked about inviting Nana for Parents' Weekend. "She already likes us. It'll be fine."

That had been his own internal refrain.

"Parker, I just cleaned --" There was no point. At least she wasn't walking on things customers mostly ate off of. "That woman's seen and done plenty. It'll take more'n even Fandom can throw at 'er to spook her."

"Now, that doesn't sound ominous at all."

Standing in the entrance to the kitchen was an older man-- maybe not quite elderly, but pushing it-- wearing designer everything, a Hermes scarf, carrying a cane... and sipping a milkshake.

"What could possibly spook the average visitor about this charming island?"

Archie grinned up at Parker.

"Hello, Parker."

"Leach." Eliot's reaction was the polar opposite of Parker's. "You just stole my milkshake."

"Spencer. Oh, did I?" Archie said airily. "So sorry. I'll pay for it, of course." He hugged Parker against him a moment, and then took another sip of the re-appropriated milkshake. "It's delicious. I see you have quite the talented staff here." He smiled at Parker, semi-ignoring Eliot. "As I would expect. And as for how I got here, why, I got the loveliest invitation to 'Parent's Weekend.' Not quite what expected, but much too good an opportunity to pass up, I thought."

Eliot gave a mighty eye roll and glared at the cook until he seemed to get the message to make Eliot a new damn milkshake. "Damn right 'as you'd expect', I don't run no half-assed establishment. . . ."

Be nice, Eliot, that was basically your father-in-law you were grumbling about now.

"I'm so very glad to hear that," Archie said briskly, setting down the shake, arm still around Parker. "I know that you're running this crew, Parker. I'm interested to see how you've changed things up since Ford retired." He met Spencer's eyes and gave what was less of a smile and more of a smirk. "I'd hate to think you're having to do all the work yourself." He perked up a little. "So I can meet your young man's family on this trip? How fortuitous!"

It was not Eliot's job to tell Archie he was sleeping with his daughter.

Eliot would also prefer not leaving it for the man to "figure it out", but he wasn't that good at reading Parker's expressions yet.

"We ain't about to leave Parker in a lurch, Leach." Unlike Archie had, once upon a time. "We're a team, through'n'through."

[identity profile] almostcarygrant.livejournal.com 2016-10-01 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"What a wonderful grip on alliteration you have, Spencer." Archie smirked again, a smirk not unlike Parker's. "I look forward to more of your sagacity this weekend." To Parker he said, "I'm staying at that charming inn, the Arms? An Astronomy Suite. I have no idea what it is, but it sounds delightful."
vdistinctive: (exasperated-face)

Eliot would show Archie 'sagacious'. Once he looked it up to make sure it meant what he thought it meant.

"You want somethin' to actually eat, Leach? 'Cause we were kinda workin' on gettin' this place ready for the folks that actually let us know they were comin'."

[identity profile] almostcarygrant.livejournal.com 2016-10-01 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmmm. I am a trifle peckish, although I was prepared to survive on room service for this trip." Archie's smile turned a little more real after Parker defended her friend. "What would you recommend, my dear? You would know your friend's specialties best."
vdistinctive: (chef-face)

[personal profile] vdistinctive 2016-10-01 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Eliot nodded. "There'll be plenty," he assured her. "Ain't quite ready to go just yet, though. Got plenty of appetizers on the diner menu to tide folks over. What you got a taste for, Archie?"

Now that he wasn't grumbling about the stolen milkshake, Eliot was willing to be a touch warmer. Plus, well. Food. It was his thing.

[identity profile] almostcarygrant.livejournal.com 2016-10-01 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't expect you to have caviar," Archie said, considering. "But any kind of decent cheese plate wouldn't go amiss."
vdistinctive: (humoring you-face)

[personal profile] vdistinctive 2016-10-01 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Eliot flagged down a server. "Grab us some of the Abbaye de Belloc, a couple tins of Russian caviar, and some good, crusty bread." He looked back at Archie. "That sound about right to you? Sir?"

If there was a bit of a sarcastic edge to that "sir", Eliot thought he could be forgiven.

[identity profile] almostcarygrant.livejournal.com 2016-10-01 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Archie kept a poker face for one looooong beat.

Then broke into a delighted grin. "Excellent! I can see this weekend is going to be entertaining in more ways than I imagined!"
