Peter read the note and frowned, then looked over at the snapdragons. They'd certainly been behaving for him.
He called the supplier, who sent him over to the distributor, who put him on hold. Eventually they came back on to tell him that their flowers were guaranteed 100% non-sentient unless specified otherwise and accompanied by proof of training in handling higher vegetable lifeforms.
Which was sufficiently disturbing that Peter thanked them and hung up. He left a note to chalk the plants' behavior up to the island, then pulled a chair over to the snapdragon corner and started reading one of the plant catalogues out loud to them.
Well, it wasn't like he could play fetch or anything to keep them happy.
