Needful Things; Tuesday [09/05].
Normally, Summer would be sweeping and dusting the ever dirty and ever dusty shelves at Needful Things. It was definitely in her programming to just come in and sweet the floors and dust the shelves. But then she had discovered a box with a variety of little antique wind-up toys, and her programming got thoroughly distracted.
Winding up the toys. Setting them on one end of the counter and watching them move across it, only to then tumble off the edge of their demise when they reached the other end. Sometimes, they would stop. Sometimes, even though they were on their backs or their sides or on top of another toy that had fallen before it, it kept moving, twitching along, unaware that it was futile, that it was going no where, that the only purpose in its entire existence was to perform at the whims of a sadistic hand that kept winding it up, watching it traverse the length of a counter, and then fall into the abyss. Again and again, over and over. Just like the futility, the fragility of man.
Needful Things is open!
