Luke's, Sunday
"I'm not going to ask."
Kanan came in to work to see a giant monster head fashioned out of pancakes, mounted on the wall above the freezer. It was definitely made with a lot of care and attention to detail, at least?
Kanan was squinting at it instead of wiping down the counters, so sue him.
"Pretty sure I saw that guy in the freezer, once. Ate out of my hand and everything."
The dishwasher proceeded to look very uncomfortable.

Pancake Art!
It might or might not resemble something, but it's definitely art.

Well. She could play the family card, anyway.

"You're here to visit Eliot, then, are you?"

"Doesn't he know that just makes it more tempting to come here? Was he ever a kid himself?"

Which... he'd given up. There were some battles he was willing to fight forever. The pancake battle was not one of them.

"I thought it would have something to do with how long the batter stayed on the hot plate," he noted, "but it turns out the cook is hell-bent on doing pancake sculpture. Possibly installation art, I don't know. I'm torn between knocking one of the pancake stacks down on the entire kitchen staff," again, "or applauding them for exercising their creativity."

This was important, Cassie. Very important.
The busboy was already diving for cover.

That was a completely insincere 'oops,' yes. That was the sort of oops that came out of the mouth of a man who was clearly reaching a hand to lean against a wall or a door frame, and who happened across a giant karking stack of pancakes instead.
The resulting pancake disaster was rolling, thunderous, and conveniently all just happened to slide off the counter in the direction facing away from Kanan and Cassie.

If only Vine was still a thing!
"Now that," she said. "Was art."

"One of these days," he shared, "I'll come in on a Sunday and they'll either have made something else for the daily specials, or at the very least they'll have settled on a sane amount of pancakes."
He still wasn't sure what they did with all the extras every week.

Somewhere, Eliot was facepalming and wasn't sure why.

"Oh, it's probably not a front," he shared. "I've seen fronts. They've never had bears in the freezer before."
Rancors in the basement, sure. Bears, though?

"Grab a coat, I can take you for the weirdest freezer tour you've ever been on."
Probably only with occasional mynock. Maybe a tentacle beast or two...
Hell was saving a special spot for Kanan.

She knew she didn't have a chance with the pretty green lady, but still!

"We are," he said, because yes, confirming that Hera had asked him to wait was important, here. "We're just friends, and I'm the idiot who is still very interested anyway."
You could clearly be interested in someone without being an item with them, Cassie. This just meant that you were both in the 'not a chance' club together, now.
"The freezer's just a freezer. With it's own arctic ecosystem going on in there. And a transportation system, too."

Somehow, Kanan was both not terribly surprised, and somewhat astounded. Go figure.

Watch out for that bus, Eliot.
no subject
Kanan had been hit by buses before. That didn't mean he was going to hesitate to join right in on throwing his boss under this one.
"I'm going to extend that offer again. On the freezer tour. At least in part because I don't think I can stress enough that I wasn't coming on to you, and now mostly because if you're going to understand what kind of ridiculous poodoo he gets up to around here, you're going to want to see this."

He was already making his way over to pull one on, himself.

You know. In order to not lose a limb or something.

"The kind that involves a glowing plasma blade, using a form that's named after silicon-based parasites that chew through starship hulls," he replied, pulling the freezer door open the rest of the way, and then stepping aside to make way for Cassie. "Watch that first step going in."
no subject
"Well sure, but do you hold it in one or two hands?" she asked.
Hey, if the two cultures had both developed what amounted to primarily the same language, she figured their sword styles had to have some crossover, too.
". . . Sweet mother of crap, the building isn't even this long."
Uncle Eliot had been holding out on her.

Or he could embrace the convenient distraction that the freezer presented, at least for the time being.
"Pretty sure the whole island isn't. I have yet to actually make it all the way to the back, and I've been trying for some time."
no subject
It had already been found. But again, Kanan had no reason to know any of that. Cassie was just amusing herself at this point.

The freezer trolley. Because sure, that was a thing.
