"Look, Mr. Winkles! Friends!"
The gerbil blinked beady, dubious eyes through the side of his gerbil habitat at the cage full of other gerbils that Zack had placed on the counter beside him. He wasn't impressed. He had seen better. In a mirror, of course.
"I mean, I'm going to try to get them all adopted out, but if you manage to make friends with any of them, I'm not opposed to keeping one or two more around for you, you know."
Mr. Winkles turned away with a little flick of his tail and went to go gnaw on the edge of his running wheel.
"Well, give it time. Maybe you'll warm up to one."
Mr. Winkles most certainly would not.
