The Perk, Tuesday Afternoon

Today had been a pretty decent day, for Vette. She'd gotten dismissed from her one class today early, had gotten a decent exchange rate on the credits she had with her, and was absolutely feeling up to exploring the town to see what she was in for.

... It hadn't taken long. After spending any amount of time on Nar Shaddaa, being able to just walk for five minutes and find a clear edge to the town was novel. It wasn't long before she ended up at the Perk, and it hadn't taken her long at all from there to order the biggest, most absurd looking pastry she could find and a drink to go with it.

She had no idea what a 'pumpkin spice' was, but she liked spicy foods, and so sure, she was game.

She was still smiling as she found herself a window seat. Sure, the population of the island was largely human. That took some getting used to. But at least people watching promised to be interesting regardless.

Ino just wanted another one of her hot chocolates. With, okay yes, the extra cup of whipped cream.

Shhh.

"Hi, small blue newbie," she greeted cheerfully on her way to the counter.

Vette blinked up from her drink, glanced around the room, and then just kind of shrugged, resigned to it.

"Hi, small pink... oldbie?"

What else did you say to that, right?

[intraspective]

Ino laughed, placing her order.

"Old enough, I guess," she decided, glancing at... well, at the small blue newbie. "Are you stayin' out of trouble, plottin' trouble, baskin' in trouble successfully completed?"

What?

That was totally a thing to ask a newbie.

Sabine was on her way back from the warehouse, stopping in on the way. She wasn't usually the one striking up conversations just because, but she liked having an idea of the people from home.

Even if it confused the hell out of her.

"You're one of the new kids, right?" she asked as she waited for her drink.

[*stalks*]

Why not, though? Why not?

"Staying out of trouble is no fun at all," Vette chirped, looking at the... you know. Small pink oldbie. "Why would I do anything of the sort?"

[intraspective]

Ino took her drink from the minions with a smiled thanks.

"I don't know," Ino said easily. "You might be lame. Some people are."

Though that answer had her leaning already towards 'not lame'.

[chirpchirpchirp]

"So they tell me," Vette agreed, smiling crookedly and raising her drink in greeting. "I still haven't decided how badly I want to be, but I guess I'm here for now."

Stupid relic. Stupid... touching the stupid relic.

"So tell me, oldbie," Vette said, smiling over the rim of her drink, "what exactly do lame people do?"

Kaidan's last stop before heading home to pack up and ship everything off to Sparkle. He'd hired a porter to take the rest of the groceries to the CIC and ducked into the Perk to pick up the last and probably least of them.

The flash of blue caught him off guard before he remembered - new Twi'lek, not an Asari. He threw her a smile as he made his way to the counter, "Hey, you're one of the girls that gave Kanan a hard time on the bus on Saturday, yeah? Good job, you."

The barista wore a resigned expression as she waited for whatever sugar-induced horror Kaidan would ask for. He laughed a little when he saw it and shook his head, "I'm not here to buy a whatever-accino, not today. I'd like a pound of ground coffee and, if you sell 'em by the bottle, couple bottles of the caramel..goop.. that goes in it."

The barista eyed him askance, "You're not going to try to drink it straight up, are you?" Kaidan shook his head, "Sending it to a friend." Thus relieved of her duty to not let a customer kill themselves with flavor syrup, the barista went to get things ready.

"I said the same thing, for about two days," Sabine admitted. "What happened to you?"

Vette watched that entire exchange in silence, letting him place his order in peace until the barista wandered off to get his things ready.

"Good job, huh?" She smirked over at him. "Not a fan of the guy or something?"

"What? No. Big fan of the guy. I just love the idea that he ducked out for coffee for five minutes and two young'ns hotwired the bus on him. I'm going to be laughing at him about that for the next century," Kaidan grinned. He offered her a polite nod, "I'm Kaidan."

[chirpchirpchirp]

"Oh, you know. Treasure hunt gone horribly wrong," Vette sighed. "Finally about to get my hands on a valuable relic, and the moment I reach out to get it... flash! Zap! Ballons! Glitter!"

She... very nearly threw her arms in the air at that. Which would have ended poorly, what with the latte in one hand.

"I'm mostly just angry I didn't get to bring my prize with me, at this point."

"Understandable. There was glitter?"

This was a first!

"Vette," came her reply as she nodded in turn. "Glad I could be a source of amusement, then. Really, people should know better than to take an eye off of anything they want to keep tabs on."

Like entire buses.

"That's what makes it funny. He usually doesn't. He must have really needed the coffee," Kaidan chuckled.

The barista returned with some bottles of caramel..goop. "What grind do you need for the coffee?"

Kaidan gave her a blank stare. "Well, he..ck. I don't even know if he has a coffee maker over there."

The barista managed not to facepalm. "The tea sacs can be heat sealed. If I do a fine grind, you could do a bunch of single-serving coffee bags? Like tea bags, only coffee?"

Kaidan blinked and nodded. "Throw in a box of those too, please? Thanks."

When the barista turned back to get the coffee, Kaidan turned back to Vette. "Have you met Hera yet?"

"Yeah, up on the banner," Vette replied with a roll of her eyes and a shake of her head. "The one written in High Galactic. What's with this place and that, anyway? I thought I got kidnapped away to a school for snobs, but it turns out that's just all they know how to write, here."

[chirpchirpchirp]

Vette smiled a little.

"Yeah, she introduced herself to me at the picnic. She was the most normal thing about that entire day." What with being a Twi'lek in a sea of humans, for a start. "She gave me a 'no stealing ships' rule, though. Spoilsport."

[intraspective]

"Oooooh, newbie," Ino said, as she wandered over, her hair reaching out to grab her a spoon on the way. "The most damning thing is that the lame ones don't break the rules."

[intraspective]

"I demand entertainment," Ino called, when Kaidan wandered in.

What? Hellos were for other people. She knew what she wanted.

"They call it English," Sabine told her, taking her drink when it came up. "I don't get how, either, but it's the standard around here. I've looked into some of the different languages on the planet and they don't use Aurebesh anywhere."

[intraspective]

Ino squinted thoughtfully at the girl who'd just wandered in.

Awfully colourful... which reminded her of something.

Kaidan laughed, "That's because the ships around here belong to her."

He didn't know Atton had one. He would definitely recommend against stealing that one if he did.

"She's good people. So's Kanan, when he's not being a caffeine-deprived grumpus. You here as student, teacher, or one of us plebes?"

[spectre_alenko]

"Do you consider hugs entertaining?" Kaidan asked, throwing her a smile, "I warn you, my jokes are awful. Or did you have something else in mind?"

[chirpchirpchirp]

"Oh, pffft, I've broken out of more prisons than some entire worlds have," Vette replied, rolling her eyes. "I've broken at least one or two rules."

That wasn't bragging. Much.

Bragging would be bringing up the bus.
