It was probably a good thing that the peanut butter jelly demon didn't have actual ears when Nina caught sight of it because her voice hit a register that most peoples never did as she stared, aghast, at the small cutie that was no longer pink.

It burbled happily at her.

This was the worst way to start a new job! The worst!

"Like, now I have to figure out how to fix you?????" Nina complained as the jelly demon bumped her elbow comfortingly. "And, like, I don't even know how magic works in this world??????? And small geeky guy," she knew his name but psh, whatever, "wasn't even sure how you came to exist in the first place!!!!!!"

"I most certainly am not!" Bob turned his frown on Nina. "And I'll thank you not to shriek like that. Surely Mr. Babcock informed you of my residence here?"

Besides, Nina was on a roll here.

"You are!!!!!!!!! You are!!!!!!!!" Nina looked both horrified and delighted, because really, honestly, this was her first shift and things like this never happened to most people, did they? Amazing!

Just wait until she told Vette!

She drew herself up bravely, still cradling the little jelly demon. "I warn you, foul criminal!!!!!!! I am more than a match for the likes of you!!!!!!!!!!!"

And if she wasn't, er, well... Vette wouldn't mind her crashing the C.I.C. for a long lunch, surely.

And with every 'get out' he was getting a book flung at him.

And she did was any sensible, boarding school raised girl would do: she bolted.

Jelly demons made way, way more sense than ghosts!
