The Park [Saturday morning]

Nothing to see in this perfectly normal park this morning, just a lion lounging under a tree and receiving a choreographed musical news report from the ducks in the pond.

Totally normal.

Toooooootally normal.

Normal....or suspicious? Mumen Rider expected he'd pass by the park frequently in his patrols of such a small island, and since it was so small, he certainly felt it was his duty to ensure that the congregation of ducks and one lion was nothing to worry about, cutting through the grass and pulling his bike to a dramatic stop nearby, so that he could stop and assess the situation more closely.

Mmm. Good. Nothing flagrantly nefarious going on here, just a lion and some ducks, by the look of it. Mumen Rider nodded his approval, mounting his bike again to take off once more in search for more trouble or for wherever justice might be needed.

Know what else was normal? A wizard performing amazing tricks over on one end of the park. Where was that theme music even coming from?

Either way, it was playing and it was clear that everyone loved Magical Trevor. Mostly because of the tricks that he did were ever so clever. Just look at him now disappearing a... teal deer.

Where had the deer traveled right now?

Fenris went to the park. After his game of chess with a total stranger, he wandered over to the lion and examined it for a moment. Then he flailed a hand in the air as if trying to catch someone's attention. "Fleeble norp! Minicule!" He pointed at the lion, stamped his foot again and repeated, "Minicule!"

Now that was definitely suspicious, and Mumen Rider was feeling incredibly grateful that he'd passed by on his bicycle in time to see the wizard fellow disappear that teal deer. He came tearing forward as fast as his wheels could take him, turned the bike just in time to nearly go skittering into the grass as he stopped, then stood up, pointing with dramatic accusation as he called you, "You fiend! What have you done with that deer?

True, he didn't know the rules around this place, but he was pretty sure disappearing deer was a pretty felonious offense. He couldn't merely stand by and allow such things to happen!

It was okay, Mumen Rider! He took his bow to appreciate his reaction to the clever trick. And, with flick of his leathery, leathery whip... the teal deer was back!

Yeah. Yeah, that teal deer was back.

But what did he see in that parallel dimension? What did he see???

Mumen Rider's attention shifted from the wizard to the teal deer, then back to the wizard, then back to the teal deer.

He narrowed his eyes a little, not that you could tell because of his shiny sunglasses, though they did seem to catch in the light just right at the moment of decision. He nodded.

"Ah," he said. "I see. So, it's just a trick, then? ...that is very clever, assuming that no deer are being needlessly harmed in the process of such clever tricks."

After all, who even knew what that deer had been going through while disappeared.

In addition to seeking out justice and attempting to destroy evil (or hold it off before better heroes showed up), Mumen Rider did take it upon himself to help distressed citizens when he saw them, and this citizen looked very much distressed.


"Citizen!" he declared, once he'd ridden over, fast as the wind, and brought his bike to a very dramatic stop. "You appear to be in distress! How may I, as a classed member of the Hero Association, help alleviate your distress today?"

Mumen Rider took his job very, very seriously.

Now, neither the deer nor Trevor could speak, but that helpful theme music let everyone know that what the deer saw was... beans.

Lots of beans. Loads of beans.

Which was weird, but Trevor was gonna roll with it, smiling and brandishing his leathery, leathery whip.

Fenris tilted his head and scratched his cheek. His arms rose to flail in the air. "Flarble sneeble norf! Flarty florb! Fretish! Nish na worf!? Minicule! Minicule!"

One hand flailed downward to point at the lion. Jumping up and down, flailing is fists at his side, Fenris said heatedly, "Shoo flee! Minicule!"

The theme song...was very helpful, yes, and Mumen Rider listened with care, determining that seeing beans, lots of beans, was not exactly harmful, he supposed, unless the deer suffered from a bean allergy.

He considered the deer again, which seemed very fine with this whole situation, and he nodded. Then smiled, as he realized just how clever the trick really was.

Or maybe he just thought that because the song had told him so. Either way, Trevor, you earned yourself a thumbs-up of approval for these harmless and not at all evil shenanigans.

"Very well, then," he said. "Carry on!"

And, least he waste any more time when justice might need to be served elsewhere, Mumen Rider hopped right back on his bike and rode off.

But he was keeping an eye on you, Magical Trevor, especially if nothing popped up in the Hero Association's database. That was at least a B-Class sort of skill right there, so it would be terribly suspicious that it wasn't even registered.

The citizen's unfamiliar language made it a bit more difficult to understand what the distress was all about; shame he couldn't have just a convenient theme song to fill in the gaps of missed communication! But Mumen Rider listened with undivided attention, nodding as he considered the gestures, and he had a feeling he was piecing it together well enough.

"You're concerned," he tried, "about the lion. A very reasonable worry, and I understand why you might be distressed. But I have accessed the situation very carefully, and I am quite certain that the lion is quite tame and means no harm. I shall be ready at a moment's notice, however, should this lion choose to change its roar!"

As the leader of Team Instinct, Spark was a busy guy! After all, on top of helping trainers train, he had his own Pokémon to keep fighting fit, and there was always research to be done on the conditions of walking with Pokémon eggs and how it affected the Pokémon within!

And so Spark was out for a walk! In the park, which as everybody knew was one of the best places to go to find Pokémon, since even the most shy types tended to congregate where people went most often. In spite of being wild animals.

It was best not to question it.

Upon spotting the lion, he stopped in his tracks, blinked, and then proceeded to look very excited.

"Wh-whoa! That's the strangest Pokémon I've ever seen!"

Was it a Luxray, maybe? It wasn't nearly blue enough to be a Luxray (though he did need one of those, they'd go great with his collection of electric-type Pokémon), unless there was an Alolan form that he hadn't heard about yet... But his instincts were telling him that it was something he'd never encountered before!

"Neeshga! Neeshga!" Fenris cried, flailing around again. "Jamoo! Licht nar! Fretishe Miza! Snarfy zeeble narb!"

Clawing his hands at the sky with maximum 'why is everything like this' frustration, he said, "Snarfy! Zeeble! Narb!"

Mufasa yawned, letting out a low (for him) roar, and stretched. Time to find a place for a nap!

Lions' lives: very nap-intensive.

He tilted his head inquiringly at Spark.

Still flailing from his last encounter in the park, Fenris was muttering to himself and almost bumped into the dude in yellow. He hissed and made little shoo motions with his hands. "Blursh! Meshaloob! Blursh!"

"Maybe," Spark mused, looking thoughtfully at the (???), "you're a shiny Luxray. They're gold..."

You were a head-scratcher, Mufasa. Really teasing the ol' noodle.

"Or a hairy Persian? Do you know Payday? Or just Rest?"

It was only a matter of time before he started throwing balls at you, Mufasa.

"Blursh?" Spark looked between Yelling-Big-Ear-Guy and Mufasa, before hedging, a little dubiously, "is that what it's called? Oh, is this your Blursh?"

Well, that changed everything!

That would be...a choice to make there, Spark.

"I am Mufasa," said the talking lion, sure, in a very deep voice.

That was fine. Spark happened to come from a place where most animals said their own names.

Or just screeched a lot, depending on the canon.

"A Mufasa! So you're definitely something new!" He was pulling out... Sparkle's phone, actually, which was disappointingly (but predictably) not pulling up a Pokédex, no matter how he poked at it. "Maybe you're a new legendary... We haven't had one of those since that whole Meltan thing."

Which had been a very exciting marketing ploy for roughly eight seconds.

"Needo! Horba norsh! Minicule!" Fenris gesticulated at the lion. Do people not see the problem with having a lion in the park?! What a day for his sword to go missing. "Minicule!"

"Your Blursh's name is Minicule?" Spark considered that for a moment. "Well," he grabbed one of those Simlish words at random, "Needo, do you want me to check out your Minicule?"

Look, he had maybe three jobs as a Team Leader. Checking out people's Pokémon was one of them.

"I may very well be legendary," Mufasa said, sounding amused. "That would annoy my brother to no end."

Fenris gave the yellow dude a hard stare and then waved his hand in the air, jumping up and down a little as if trying to hail God. "Sulsul! Plerg Majah Bliff?!"

"Oh, man, wait until Professor Willow hears about you... He'll be beside himself."

Or, after they inevitably became cheap rewards for field research tasks, he'd end up getting like thirty Mufasas sent to him and grinding them up into candy.

Spark nodded. Hey, some trainers just got really excited about their Pokémon.

"Overall," he mused, giving Mufasa a critical eye, "your Minicule looks like it can really battle with the best of them!"

Because it was a lion, Spark.

"Its best quality is its Attack. Its stats are the best I've ever seen! No doubt about it!"

How did you even tell that by just standing there and looking at it?

"That's what I think!"
