Furnado Animal Shelter; Sunday [04/14].
Since she'd been keep a pretty low profile once she realized what was going on last week (you're welcome, Fandom; no one needed to deal with a pollenated Summer), Summer wouldn't have even realized what was going on with the weekend if it hadn't been for radio, since she definitely did not have any weird little kids from any weird little relationships that weird alternate universe versions of herself were getting all mixed up in.
On the one hand, this was a good thing. Hem had been cute and all, but alternate versions of herself were usually terrible and it was nice to not have to be reminded of the fact that this dimension's version of her was (somehow, astonishingly) one of the better ones.
But on the other hand, it was still kind of a bummer. Maybe not if she convinced herself that the island was just giving her a break for once in her life, but it almost made her wonder if her love life from this point on was just so abysmal and depressing that the island just laughed its theoretical butt off and was all, 'Nah, bitch, not even worth it.'
So the clear solution was just to not think about it at all, and just focus on work instead, because there were a lot of extra orders for supplies coming in in preparation of what might be the result of a whole bunch of animals in confined spaces under last week's influence.

And while he was in town he figured, hey, he might as well check up on the shelter, right?
He had managed a little grin by the time he noticed somebody was there besides the vet, and was calling out his best, "Hey, anybody home?" as he walked inside.

Honestly, no one really was. This place was not exactly a hopping hive of activity.
"Oh! Hey, Zack." The surprise at least was a pleasant one. "I...thought that might have been your name I heard on radio. You finally back?"

He gave Summer a little smile, playful around the edges.
"I could go back, if you were hoping to stick around here longer, though."
He really, really wouldn't.

She shrugged again, but, by then, it was settling in a little that Zack actually was back and everything had had just sort of become habit to her at this point was not even going to be something she needed to worry about anymore. She'd actually have a little more time to focus on getting everything set up for the jello shop and maybe getting out of here...
...she felt she should be a little more excited about that.
"Place didn't burn down," she said, and held up her hands as if accepting divine absolution. "My work here is done."

The puppies!
"But hey, don't be a stranger anyway, okay? I'm sure everyone here is going to miss you."

If anything, working with them so much had really taken away a lot of the cute and fun aspects of it for her.
"But one of them did claim me and take over my apartment," she offered. "So I'll be in every once in a while to get food and stuff for her."

... Okay, in fairness, he'd been away long enough it could have been an animal he'd never even met yet, but he did try to make an effort to get to know each and every one while he was around.

"Her name is Pancakes," she said proudly, pulling out her phone and picking out a recent picture that seemed incredibly Pancakes-y to show him. "She's super opinionated and hate space travel, but that's okay, we're working on..."
A thought suddenly struck Summer.
"...it."
Was Pancakes why she didn't get any kids this weekend?
Had she started down an irrevocable path toward cat lady?

It was fine, Summer. Cat lady life probably wasn't all that bad.

"But, yeah, exciting definitely a word for it. A little too exciting for little kitty stomachs, though. I picked up this, like, stabilizer harness from this intergalactic PetCo," totally a thing, "that should help, but I haven't really had the chance to try it out yet."

Very important, being able to travel without sick kitties.
