The Holoscene, Friday
So this week had been . . . a thing. Mae wasn't entirely convinced the whole thing wasn't just a really weird dream. She'd fought vampires. With a bat. And came out with nothing worse than some scratches and bruises.
That couldn't possibly be a thing that actually happened, right?
Either way, she was sore and tired today, and determined for once not to smash anything, with a bat or anything else. Instead she had her stargazing program pulled up in Holosuite One, an autumn chill in the program's air, and distant train noises providing some alpha-wave calm.
Nothing in here was real, either, but at least she knew why. She could change the program with a word if she wanted to. The lingering certainty that everyone on the island was subject to the whim of some group of unknowable beings could get shoved to the back of her brain.
She was 100% in control here, if nowhere else.
