The Park, Friday Afternoon

The weather had finally started to take a turn toward autumn around here, it seemed, and the slight chill in the air was what Kanan was choosing to put his focus into today, rather than how thankful he was to be back to normal even while a large number of the island's residents still weren't. Being back to normal now meant there was a frame of reference for the rest, hopefully, and it was easy enough to haul the bamboo shinai to the park in any case, so that the margin for injury during training today was minimized somewhat.

Sure, he had his lightsaber out and was doing some fairly acrobatic forms today while he waited for anybody who might decide to join him today, but after a week of knocking his knuckles on the sides of kitchen counters and accidentally knocking his chest into corners, could anybody really blame him?

Rey had sort of accepted this week's stupidity and was at least confident that it would end soon... and then she got here and saw Kanan was normal.

Which was where the "uuuugh" noise came from. So unfair.

And that 'uuuugh' got a bit of a laugh out of Kanan, who lowered his lightsaber and had to raise his free hand to cover his mouth. You know. Because of what was totally a cough. Sorry, Rey.

"Hey, remember, I got stuck with it two whole days before you did," he called over to her. "This is a good sign!"

A beat.

"Probably."

"I know. But it's unfair," she said, and clarified, "I mean, it's fair. But it's not."

It was all unfair.

"It gives you an idea of when to expect you'll be back to your usual self," Kanan offered. "But... if the situation were reversed, I admit I'd probably feel about the same way."

He really wasn't a fan of having breasts.

Or, well, he wasn't a fan of there being a learning curve for navigating his own body.

"I'm already over it," Rey complained. "How long were you like this?"

"I changed on Monday and changed back today," Kanan replied, "so you've probably got another two days to go. Or, we can hope, anyway."

There was another, quieter version of the "uuugh."

"I never used to get hit with any of this," she said.

Those days were super over. Like extremely over.

Hernando was back to his male self and only feeling the mildest of loss about it. Sparkle had.. not taken the change back very well. Had cried themselves into exhaustion. Hernando had called in and canceled his lecture for the day because he wasn't heading to Toronto and leaving Sparkle by themselves.

But there were other people he needed to check up on, so once Sparkle was asleep and tucked in, he ventured out. It was Friday, it was a nice day, he knew where Kanan would be.

"Kanan," he greeted, watching the flippy shit with fascination and firmly locking down the rising horror he felt every time the lightsaber moved and hummed, "Feeling better?"

"Welcome to the weird," Kanan said, smiling wryly. "Sounds like the island is making up for lost time, huh. So... meditation day?"

"Feeling much more myself, at least," Kanan agreed, lightsaber shutting off as soon as Hernando spoke up. His feet found the ground as the blade fluttered, and the hilt was clipped to his belt by the time he was standing straight again. "And yourself?"

"Sure. I could use some focus." Because that hadn't been going great.

Hernando definitely breathed easier when the lightsaber was put away. "I am well enough. A little sad the experience is over but very happy to have my regular body back as well. I missed my beard."

Among other things.

"Sparkle is.. taking it less well. I took today off and we'll see how the weekend goes. I thought I'd come by and check on you and Duke and Kaidan to see how you three were."

"Probably for the best," Kanan decided, nodding toward a patch on the ground. "We can work on expanding your awareness, though between you and me it's going to be a mess of people either thrilled to be back in their usual bodies or irked that they're not, yet. Or we can just focus on some relaxation and centering, today."

[uncertain_dume]

"Well, so far, so good, for me," Kanan noted, shrugging a little. "I haven't spoken with either of the others yet, though. They both seemed to be taking it with a little bit more grace than I was."

If 'grace' was the word for anything Duke did, really.

"If it helps at all, this wasn't my first time having this experience, I imagine your chance will come again. Not sure if that'll help Sparkle any, though."

"Maybe centering and then work up to other stuff?" Rey said, not quite sure she wanted to catch a mess of people when she felt off herself.

"Centering it is, then," Kanan replied, and then smiled wryly. "My upbringing taught me to look beyond most kinds of discomfort. What you're going through now, yes, but also pain, exposure to the elements, hunger... Being able to step outside of one's own preoccupations in order to carry out the will of the Force was important."

A beat.

"I wasn't great at some of it, but it came a little more easily over the years, the more experience I had."

It wasn't really experience he'd wish on anybody, fine, but the point remained.

"I can look past discomfort. If you're sick or tired or starving on Jakku you have to ignore it and work through it most of the time," Rey says. "It's dufferentbwhen you feel literally unbalanced."

Kanan nodded a little. That made sense enough. Even without tapping into the Force, Rey would've had to buckle up and keep going if she didn't want to starve to death in the desert.

"Fortunately, the Force loves balance."

Kanan, that was terrible.

"Let's see if some meditation will help you at least get more in touch with the shape you're in, for now."

"For what had better be just a day," she said, finding a spot to sit.

Lana walked over, sighed, and raised her lightsaber. She didn't feel an introduction was needed, but she wasn't just going to jump in, either, not when she still wasn't entirely used to how she moved like this.

"And give you a day less than I had to deal with it?" Kanan smiled crookedly. "Now that's unfair."

Sorry, Rey. Kanan was going to Space Dad at you forever, but he was also still a well-meaning ass.

"I'd be perfectly all right with it," Rey said.

"Careful," Kanan cautioned, mostly teasing. "Karma'll make it three."

Space Dad was also Brat Dad.

Kanan glanced her way, and then nodded a little, coming to a stop nearby.

"Run forms first?"

A spar right now could be... bad. For her.
