It felt a little bit weird to be back at work after what felt like -- and had been -- way more than three weeks for Beau. Or, at least, 'work' in the sense of having a steady job with a regular schedule and a regular payday, after taking a wildly varying assortment of one-off jobs that had a lot less stability but way more adventure.
Not that she minded the stability -- it was very nice to not have to worry about traveling five days after fulfulling a long, grueling, and probably very literally messy contract. But the adventure ... yeah, she kind of missed that. She didn't really have much time to dwell on that, though, especially since she was still stuck on the fact that Yasha was here, and it looked like she might be sticking around for a bit.
... man, she hoped the rest of the Mighty Nein didn't get into any really big fights without them, because they wouldn't be doing as well, probably, without their two heavy hitters up front.
In the meantime, she had a couple of malfunctioning exercise machines to write a trouble ticket for. What a glamorous life she led.

Kind of. Rey would say she was checking up. But if she needed a cover...
"Hey."

She would say she didn't need checking up on, if asked, but really? She appreciated it, and also wanted to return the favor, basically. Shit had been pretty intense back there.

Because saying thank you in a face to face conversation was still awkward.

She paused, idly unwinding some tape from the roll she was still holding and winding it around her finger. Then, finally and awkwardly:
"You bounce back okay after everything?"

Of course she was going to get there."
no subject
She was not, and Rey would likely be able to tell just from the slightly forced way she said it.

Or, she'd banned Duke, sort of, but it had worked so she was trying with others now.

"I'm holding up," she said, shrugging. "Still kind of unpacking ... figuratively, I mean, I didn't bring much. We had a lot going on."
Like all those weird cult encounters, and the skeletons in manacles that kept turning up everywhere.
Also just, you know. Losing people who were just starting to maybe fall into the "friend" category.

And hadn't gotten battered around. Or really known the people involved.

She shook her head. "Anyone else would have done the same."

"Fair," she conceded. "Guess you could say I'm still getting used to being around non-garbage people."

"Yeah, probably," she agreed, in a way that sounded like she was actually agreeing and not just planning to brush that statement off. "Speaking of non-garbage people, though, it's Karolina's birthday tomorrow, so there's gonna be, like, pizza and cake if you want to come up to our place for a bit in the evening."

She didn't actually have a life.
