Stark Industries- Sunday

Rey was vaguely aware of what day it was, and things had gotten Complicated enough since the last time she'd been here that she was happy to have extra work since missing last week to keep her busy. One of the things she'd fixed two weeks ago had actually been brought back again, broken in a new way, and that kind of mild annoyance was probably a good thing.

She'd also stopped an got coffee on her way in, because sometimes you had to, and she was actually learning that bit by bit.

Guess who'd discovered stress-baking was a thing? This guy! Today being what day it was and all, he'd woken with a certain nervous energy and need to do something.

And his usual 4am run around the island hadn't cut it, so then it was 'make a ridiculous breakfast spread for Verity and the mice'. That hadn't cut it either, so then it had been rearranging the weapon racks, and then he'd got it into his head to try making scones, because why not? Except now he had far too many scones.

Luckily, he also knew of a few people who'd be more than happy to take some off his hands. One of whom, conveniently, had a work shift on Sundays.

"Afternoon, Rey," he greeted, coming in to the shop with a tupperware container full of cheese-and-onion scones in hand.

“The hope that you could help me out with something,” he replied. Which to be fair was probably the reason most people came in to this particular shop. Though usually that help would be with technology and not ‘can you take this baking off my hands’.

“I may have been a little over-ambitious when it came to making these,” he admitted. “And there’s far too many for us and the mice,” which was saying a lot right there really. “So I was hoping I could convince you to take these off my hands,” he held out the container.

If she opened it, she’d find a dozen of those cheese-and-onion scones, some of them maybe a little crispier than others (the oven was touchy and he was still working out the timing) but all perfectly edible.

“It also gave me an excuse to come say hi and see how you’re doing,” Liam admitted, because honestly, the mice could probably have made their way through them if they’d really tried.

“Other than dealing with the fallout of the Station’s newest detective?” Liam asked dryly. “Not bad myself.”

He and Verity had some Big Plans in the works, but he was still holding back from talking too much about those yet, just in case things didn’t work out.

"It certainly wasn't the smoothest way of introducing himself to people," Liam said with a sigh, running a hand through his hair. "Still, no one lost any limbs, so I'm calling it a win in the end."

“He meant well,” Liam conceded. Which was an odd thing to say about Rey’s friend (and someone Liam was friendly with), but. More or less true.

"Mmm." Liam made a disbelieving noise to match Rey's face because surely she'd met Duke Crocker a time or two before? "I doubt that."

(Danny, he didn't know well enough yet to know if he'd be the sort of person to seek out someone to deliberately antagonize him, but he wouldn't put it past him either, honestly.)

"It's very endearing," Liam told her honestly.

"You really are going hard on the optimism," Liam observed with a laugh.

"I'm not complaining," Liam pointed out, still grinning.
firstofitskind: (i hear you)

“Agreed,” Liam nodded. “It’s nice when the biggest worry is a little interpersonal conflict.”

They were so jinxing it.

And now Liam’s grin faded somewhat. “Hey,” he shook his head. “Don’t fall into that trap, okay?”
