Blackstone Foundry and Forge; Monday [07/13].

So in addition to clothes being back and Amaya hopefully being able to put some of the things from this weekend out of her mind a little bit (though it was being incredibly stubborn), the island had clearly moved onto something else for the time being, and Amaya was trying to focus on how to best work this to her advantage.

Lots of new faces.

Also lots of tools, of varying quality, because you know went and tested a few of the ones that had just shown up somehow in her pockets yesterday. And she had a feeling she wasn't the only one, which could either be a detriment to business this week or a potential untapped opportunity.

She was hoping for the latter, which is why she whipped up a sign to put outside the shop:

Or consider some tried-and-true Blackstone forged tools instead!
Dependable. Durable. Not Likely to Just Disappear When All This is Over!

And now to get to actually getting a better look at all those randomly appearing tools in her suddenly incredibly deep pockets to just see what could be done to them!

"Amaya," Seivarden, suddenly standing in the door, greeted her. "This music is terrible."

She stepped inside.

"What are you working on?"

"...huh," said Amaya, after pausing a moment, more to just actually stop and listen for the music than anything else. "I actually didn't really notice."

She was apparently a little too distracted by the potential screaming threat to her entire business at the moment. And the constant commentary of thoughts in her head since Saturday's odd encounter with Lucifer, which didn't help much, and definitely didn't help when the subject of that odd encounter was standing in her doorway

"It doesn't sound that terrible," she then added, before drowning most of it out anyway as she returned to her work on seeing just how much stress she could put that axe that had been in her pocket that morning, and kept her attention mostly there.

"What can we do for you today, Captain?" she asked, which sounded incredibly stiff and almost decidedly business-like over the steady clang of her hammer.

Odd, but Seivarden told herself that island strangeness two weeks in a row (she assumed) could make anyone annoyed.

"I just wondered if you wanted tea," she said.

Oh, and to make sure there was no harm done during Saturday, which made the first sentence of the narrative a little harder to accomplish.

Zards. Amaya's hammer stopped for a moment, then continued on a few moments more while she tried to navigate around that one, because the last thing she wanted right now was to have tea with Seivarden, but if she said no, it would be the first thing to set off that something was wrong and then who knew where they'd end up except no where good for either of them.

She considered just saying she was too busy, but she'd keep that one in her pocket (where there was still plenty of room) for later, if she needed to.

"I'd have some tea," she said, taking a second to stop pounding on the axe to test it, lifting it up and thunking it into the wood of the table, before wrenching it out, considering the gash it made, considering the edge, and started hammering again.

Seivarden grinned.

"Good. I'll make some. You continue hammering."

With that she headed up the stairs and returned a while later with two mugs.

Amaya actually didn't continue hammering; she turned around to shove the axe head into the forge, glowering at it as if her consternation alone could cause it to burn hotter, and by the time Seivarden came back down, she extracted the axe and turned toward one of the anvil, sparing a nod toward the worktable.

"Just set it there for now," she said, "while I get this finished up."

Then she continued hammering, with no intention of finishing up any time soon.

Seivarden did as she asked, then leaned against the table, sipping her own tea, and waited for Amaya to finish hammering.

After a while, when she started to feel a little uncomfortable, she called, trying to drown out the noise:

"Your tea will get cold."

"Better the tea goes cold than the steel," said Amaya. "Once the steel goes cold, it's all over."

Until you forged it again, anyway, but it would hardly be the same.

But Seivarden seemed particularly good at poking holes in her attempts to be otherwise engaged today, so she quenched the axehead after all and set it aside to go pick up the mug, cradling it in both her hands and curving around it a little.

"There's just a lot to do today," she said, thinking so much for keeping that in her pocket after all. "Lots of tools just showing up."

And she took a nice, long sip of the tea, which was good that it had cooled down enough that she could.

"Yes, but you always need a tea break," Seivarden insisted. "Are the tools showing up any good though? Compared to yours?"

Even someone with Seivarden's lack of perceptiveness could see that something was a little odd, so adding some flattering comments about Amaya's work couldn't be wrong, could it?

Flattering comments about Amaya's work woudl almost never be wrong.

"Compared to mine?" she asked, with an immediate snort without a single ounce of pretense in it. "Not even close. It's a mixed bag, though. Some seem better than others, but what do you expect, from a bunch of tools just found in pockets?"

"Thought so," Seivarden said, taking a sip of tea. "Oh, and I've found this new entertainment that I think you would really like."

A movie night, definitely not a "movie night". She still hadn't decided what to do with those.

"That so?" Amaya asked, lifting her brows with a mostly feigned interest, since most of her attention was going into already starting to think of what excuse she could use for not going over to watch it...the Crumbler acting up or the snapdragons attacking the baby's breath or maybe she could plant something on the Squishy machine at Turtle & Canary to make it go haywire again, and then she'd have a real actual excuse and not just a made-up one. "We'll have to make some time to watch it, then. I have to admit, they always seem to manage to make exploding ships fresh and interesting in those things..."

An extremely trustworthy fox wearing nothing but a blue apron wandered into the shop.

"Nice place you've got here. Really . . . rustic. Could maybe use some art, though."

"They do, don't they?"

Seivarden was mostly just happy that Amaya thought so.

"Maybe at the end of this week?"

"End of the week sounds good," Amaya agreed, with a nod and another sip of tea. "So long as all these new animals and that music and the excessive amount of tools at at our convenience doesn't suddenly turn south on us, anyway."

Was it bad that she was now definitely hoping all these new animals and that music and the excessive amount of tools at their disposal was going to suddenly turn south on them?

Amaya was just going to meet that totally trustworthy fox with a quirk of her eyebrow and a glance back toward the weapon wall.

"Pretty bold of you," she stated, "to come in here with full view of that wall and dismiss some of those beauties as not art. You even seeing the size of the throwing star?"

Could use some art! Amaya was feeling maybe this fox wouldn't know art if it came swinging at him at high speed and cleaved him in twain.

"Good. Then we have a plan."

Seivarden took a sip of tea.

"No, no, don't get me wrong, those are nice!" Redd said, visibly shaking, with giant sweat drops appearing on his tall, tall forehead. "But they're tools. Art is . . . art. Like painting and statues, not things you use. I would never imply that such fine craftsmanship could be purely decorative."

Good cover there, Redd. Well done.

"Yup," said Amaya, sort of emphasising the P, as if to make up for the fact that she didn't really have much else to add, but she did have tea, which was disappearing very quickly with all this drinking-so-she-wasn't talking she was doing. "Soooounds like a plan...End of the week."

Plenty of time to ruin a plan by the end of the week!

That was pretty good, actually, as the faintly pleased grin on Amaya's face might have indicated.

"Well," said she, "I've always felt the best kind of art is both form and function. Statues'll just be in the way and paintings take up valuable display space."

"Sure, sure. But if you had a nice worthy painting, maybe it would get your customers in the mood to buy!"

Amaya didn't seem that talkative today.

"I was thinking," she said. "How are you with fireworks?"

Well, that was definitely one way to get her talking. Amaya's expression perked up a little.

"Fireworks?" she asked. "Not exactly my forte, everyone prefers the magical kind back home so I've never had a lot of opportunity to dabble, but I can get a decent spark, especially if I've got time to prepare. Why? You lookin' to blow some stuff up in a particularly pretty fashion?"

"That is a real pretty picture," Amaya had to admit, with a guarded sort of interest now. It definitely fit the current aesthetics of the shop, it could be a good centerpoint for behind the counter, really, in between the practice targets...

"Isn't it?" Redd agreed easily. "A genuine work of art, right here. Very . . . arty."

"It's not cursed, now, is it?" asked Amaya.

Because, really, you kinda had to ask...

"Absolutely not."

Cursed, no. Stolen? . . . That he wouldn't get into. This was a family friendly game, after all.

"I'm considering another party," Seivarden said. "When hopefully the island won't intervene."

"It's just that," Amaya countered, "back where I'm from, if unknown foxes come waltzing into shopz, talking about paintings to spruce up the place, they're almost guaranteed to be cursed..."

There was a sort of forgiving pause.

"Or at least a bit iffy."

"Well I'd say between this week and last," Amaya mused, "you've got a good opening for one, unless the thing that happened last summer where it seemed to be a different thing every week is just getting a late start...."

"That sounds terrible. Nice job you live here, now."

"It will be later on," Seivarden said, still not even sure if it was going to happen, since she was aware she couldn't arrange it herself.

"But if you wanted to look into making fireworks..."

"I'd love to look into making fireworks," said Amaya, with a small burst of genuine enthusiasm for it, grinning a little, and she did mean it, too. It sounded like a good project to distract her, which was never a bad thing, and, technically speaking, you could say it was just business, you couldn't go around apparently hurting people with just business, right?

"We can't go and let you have just any old fireworks at your next party, right?"

"Why should I settle for anything but real Blackstone fireworks?" Seivarden grinned.
