Trooper Station, Friday

Liam had to admit, the crew from the school had done a pretty good job; the Station’s exterior practically sparkled.

Also, the flowers were, dare he say it, cute. Something his visitor this weekend would probably rib him mercilessly for, but he didn’t really care, he was just excited to get to see her for the first time in nearly a year. And okay, he was also pretty thrilled about Verity’s guest; Sarah was one of his favorite people.

Anyway, this weekend would be great, not even the Bee Lady would be able to impact his mood this weekend.


(Not that anyone who didn’t know him reasonably well could tell, since his default expression was a bit of a scowl, but, well.)

It certainly was floral, that was for sure. And hopefully Steve's contribution hadnt been a dick hidden among the flowers because there was a twelve year old giving the whole thing a dubious look before walking on in.

"Hello?" she called, peering around. It didn't really look like any of the police stations she'd been in over the years.

At the sound of someone coming in to the Station, Liam poked his head out the door of his office.

... Huh. Wasn't either of the people he was expecting to visit.

"Hello," he replied. "Are you, uh. Looking for someone?"

"I'm not sure where I am," Grace admitted after giving him a serious look to make sure he was actually a cop.

You get kidnapped by a fake cop once, man...

He was technically not a cop at all, but he did work here?

“You found the Trooper Station, so that’s a good start,” Liam said. “My name’s Liam,” it was still really weird to introduce himself by his first name, but slightly less weird when it was to a kid? “I’m the Sheriff around here. You good to tell me your name?”

"Grace Williams," she replied, trying to decide if answer she got was good enough because this sure as heck wasn't O'ahu or Las Vegas, you know. "Can I see your badge?"

Did the familiar suspicious look make sense now?

Well, it was an island? Just. Definitely not the right one.

"Williams," he echoed, narrowing his eyes at her. "Yeah. That tracks."

Did he... did he have a badge? Liam frowned, flipping open his wallet. He did not have a badge. Except- Oh! Desk drawer. He disappeared back into his office for a minute, and then came back out, holding said badge out for Grace to inspect.

"You don't happen to know anyone about yay high," he held up a hand to indicate Danny's height. "Blond, complains a lot, makes a mean lasagna?"

"You know Danno?" she asked, perking up after inspecting the badge. It was honestly the complaining thing that clinched it. "How do you know my dad?"

After not running into Steve at the picnic, Mary decided to go looking for him.

She arrived at the station, panting and holding her baby. "Are there, like, a billion stairs around here?"

“He...” Liam frowned, trying to figure out how the hell to explain it, since he knew time kinda flowed differently between Danny and Steve’s world and this one. “Works with me. Sometimes. When he’s here.” There! The truth, if not the whole of it. “Want me to give him a call so you can talk to him?”

Because he was well aware some random stranger just saying ‘Oh yeah I work with your dad’ wasn’t something any kid of Williams’ was likely to just roll with.

Yeah, that was probably the best plan there.

Grace nodded solemnly, not about to trust him without the say so of her dad here.

"Aww, look who's excited for the weekend!" Verity said, sailing into the Trooper Station. She meant that genuinely; she could tell Liam's happy scowls from his grumpy ones.

The pretty brunette at her heels could barely make out any expression at all, but she could feel his excitement and that was enough. "Liam," she said, voice warm. "Hello. Keeping up with your four-dimensional chess practice?"

“Apparently it’s a feature, not a bug,” Liam said, looking up at the sound of yet another unfamiliar voice.

He couldn’t help the fact that his face just kind of naturally settled that way! “Of course,” he said. “Ready to lose horribly?”

"Has he always talked to himself like that?" Sarah asked Verity, grinning. "Or is this a new development since the last time I was in Baltimore?"

"Hey, I'll have you know I could be a great partner for 4-dimensional chess!" Verity protested.

While cackling.

"Who lied to you like that?" Mary said, still huffing a bit. "They're a menace." She looked around. "Don't suppose you're hiding a Navy SEAL around here?"

“Not unless he’s hiding in the vents somewhere,” Liam said, in the tone of someone who was fully aware this was a possibility.

Yes, Mary was definitely looking at the ceiling and squinting. "Steve? Steve?"

Nothing. "Guess he's not really here." She shifted Joan to her other hip. "Hi. I'm Steve's sister, Mary."

"Smart," Liam said approvingly.

Liam pulled out his Global- which totally looked not at all like any cell phone Grace would be familiar with- and dialed Danny's number.

"Liam," he introduced himself. "I work with him sometimes," he added, deciding to go with the mostly-truth he'd told Grace, because what with the time weirdness he wasn't sure how much any of the adult people from their world knew about this place.

Liam's scoff was totally a loving one, Verity.

"Sarah," he shook his head. "You're the one who needs practice. I'm the one who's been playing 4D chess since the day after I was born."

"Williams," Danny said as his greeting. Because work.

"It's Liam," Liam said, because come on Danny, everyone insisted on using first names around here, which he agreed was kind of weird, but. Well. When in Rome and all that.

"There's someone here at the Station who wants to talk to you." He held the Global out in Grace's direction (Liam still could not get used to how most realities seemed to use audio-only the majority of the time) so the mic would pick up her voice.

"Danno!" Grace said, leaning in toward to look at it.
