The eggnog thing wasn't terrible- it meant the barista at the Perk had not only given him an eggnog chai latte for half-off, she'd offered him a second one for free. Not that he really knew what he'd do with an extra cup of tea, but that wasn't the point. The point was, he wasn't terribly inconvenienced by the eggnog in the taps, even if it meant he'd skipped his usual morning run since a post-run shower was clearly out of the question.

What was annoying was Calvin's pouting about not being invited to Rey and Annie's party tonight.

"Come on," Liam said, shaking his head. "You literally never talk to anyone outside of what's required of you for work. You wouldn't go even if you were invited."

"Well, sure, but that's not the point," Calvin argued. "Sometimes it's just nice to be included."

Liam... had to admit that was actually kind of fair.

Nina had a new trick up her sleeve today, as she careened into the station with a beaming smile, wearing the jacket he'd bought her, with a clarion cry of, "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Look, it was still a bit weird, but most of the weird had nothing to do with them and it made her happy to say, so...

Made him happy to hear it, too.

"Nina!" he looked up from the Deeply Important Paperwork he was doing to beam at her as she made her way through the Station. "Looking sharp," he added, with a wink.

She beamed at him, then laughed, doing a spin which twirled the jacket enough for him to notice that her leggings were covered in festive kittens.

"I only look sharp due to the jacket," she admitted. "Everything else is a choice today!!!!!!!!"

But she wanted to win that contest of Summer's. SO.

Okay, those leggings were ... cute? A Lot?

"Festive," he settled on, echoing Nina's narrative. "What's the- oh. The contest, in Economics class?" he guessed. Since she shouldn't very well be attending tonight's party!

What she shouldn't be doing and what she was going to do were...

Well. Possibly two different things.

"Yes!!!!!!!!!" Nina chirped. "Like, I have to go all out, you know????????"

"Oh, I know," Liam said wryly, because he'd met you, Nina. "Do I get to see the rest of the outfit or are you saving the reveal?"

Nina looked torn.

"It's deeply horrible," she warned.

"You're saying you don't think your old man's heart can take it?" Liam asked.

Well, Liam, you did have a tendency to be something of a clothes horse, so.

"Well, like, you asked for it I guess........."

Nina looked around.

"I'm going that way," Nina said, over towards the cells. "So I can take my jacket off and you'll get the full impact of it all at once!!!!!!"

You poor man.

“I’m bracing myself, don’t worry!” Liam called after her.

It kind of needed to be braced for. Like, everything except her sweater could pass as cute by itself. Maybe.

But all together? And with the sweater?

It was a choice. Probably a terrible one but, given what the contest was for, Nina was hoping it was the best choice.

As she sauntered back out, he could get a real, proper look at her ensemble: the leggings, and while the shirt couldn't been seen under her sweater, the skirt was unable to be ignored. Her earrings were now visible, since she'd adjusted her hair. (And she loved them. They were so cute.)

But the real thing that pulled it all into a misery of awful amazingness? Her ugly sweater.

She even did a slow turn as she got near his desk so he could appreciate the skull on the back of the 'topless' sweater.

"Well???????"

“Uh,” Liam blinked.

Any one of those items taken alone (even the leggings!), with the exception of the sweater, could be considered cute.

The sweater was definitely not cute.

“That’s... there’s definitely a lot going on there.”

"It's deeply tragic," she said, with a satisfied little nod.

This outfit was not posted all over her Insta.

“Even if I weren’t shamelessly biased, I’d probably vote for you,” Liam admitted. “You clearly spared nothing to make this happen.”

He meant dignity wise more than cost, really.

When it came to something she wanted... er... well, Nina stopped at nothing. Nothing.

Nina giggled.

"I mean, like, I know it's not a big deal or anything, but......."

"Not everything has to be a big deal," he pointed out. "Sometimes things can just be fun."

A far cry from the 'teenager' who'd barely understood the concept a few weeks ago, yes.

Nina beamed at him.

"Speaking of fun," she said, "are you going to the party tonight????????"

The one that she wasn't allowed to go to!

Super not allowed to go to! So very forbidden!

Which meant, even if this thread weren't already SP, there would definitely be a comment in the narrative about how Nina would just take that as a challenge.

"I don't know," he shrugged. "I was thinking about it?"

"Weeeeeell," Nina said, eyes big. "If you're going, you need a proper sweater!!!!!!!!!"

"Oh?" And there went the eyebrow, Nina.

Also that feeling of impending doom he'd had during Thanksgiving? Back in full force right about now, for some reason.

"I got you the perfect thing!!!!!!!!" she said, offering him a bag. "Like, I knew you wouldn't think of it yourself!!!!!!!!!!"

And it was better than her sweater.

Not in a million years would he think of buying an ugly sweater on purpose, this was true!

He took the bag, pulling out the sweater, eyebrow climbing somehow even further up his forehead as he did so.

“It lights up?” he asked, brushing his fingers against one of the LED lights adorning the sweater.

"Almost all the best Christmas sweaters do," she said earnestly, sure that Miss Verity would back her on this.

Miss Verity absolutely would back her up, it was true.

And okay, it was very, very much not at all a thing he'd normally choose to wear, but... Nina had gone all out on the ugly-sweater thing herself, so who was he to back down from a similar challenge?

Plus, you know. She'd gone to the trouble of getting something for him. Yes, it was something ridiculous, but much like the Mickey ears, that really wasn't the part that mattered.

"If you say so," he replied, trying to sound reluctant but mostly just biting back a smile.

Nina eyed him suspiciously, which was a look given her attire at the moment.

"I do," she said firmly. Then, brightly: "Try it on!!!!!!!!!!"

Okay, but that was an adorable suspicious look, Nina.

"Okay, okay," he said, sounding very put upon but also secretly ridiculously pleased that she'd gone to the trouble of finding him a ridiculous sweater.

He shrugged out of his jacket and pulled the sweater on.

"So?" he asked.

“Hmmmmmm........”

Why yes, Nina was tapping her chin thoughtfully.

“I think,” she said, holding out the batteries. “It needs these!!!!!!!”

“Now why,” Liam said slowly, “does my shirt need batteries?”

Nina giggled.

“Are you going to back out now, Dad??????????”

"Do I look like the kind of person who would back out to you?" he scoffed.

"Only if you don't put the batteries in," she teased.

Liam just sighed and took the batteries, and once they were installed, clicked the button to turn on the little blinky lights on the shirt.

"There," he said. "Not backing out."

From wearing a light-up shirt with a T-Rex in a Santa hat on it. So badass.

"I love it!!!!!!!!" she enthused, framing him with her hands. "Now you've got to wear it to the party!!!!!!!!!"

“I’ll even make sure someone gets a picture for you,” Liam said. “As proof that I did follow through.”

As if she wasn’t planning on crashing said party!
