The Devil's Nest, Tuesday Night

Today's song choices had less to do with Lucifer's mood and more with his realization that he had been going a bit hard on the early-to-mid-20th century stuff of late. So... instrumental versions of recent pop tunes, it was.

(Only the less insipid ones, mind you. He didn't hate himself that much.)

He had a glass of scotch sitting on the piano, and he was, well. Would have been pensive, were it not for giving his fingers something to do.

Duke grabbed a drink from the bar and headed for the piano. "Don't know this one," he said. "It's nice."

"It's very recent," Lucifer said, "And it doesn't hurt my ears, so we'll call that a win."

He gave the last verse a little flourish, and Duke a grin.

"Guess I haven't really been keeping up with the latest music," Duke mused. "Good thing I've got you around to let me know what's worth listening to."

Lucifer let out a soft, amused huff, and turned his attention back to the piano so he could finish the song.

After the last chord finished echoing through the club, he reached for his glass. "And I suppose I have you to tell me when it's time for my break," he said.

Duke grinned, leaning against the piano top. "I will try not to abuse that power."

"Liar," Lucifer said merrily, as he took a sip.

And taking a moment to enjoy the sight of an attractive human leaning against his piano. One of life's smaller pleasures.

He could try sprawling on top of it, sometime, see if that was even better? Maybe on the one at the mansion, rather than the one in the club.

"Often, yes," Duke admitted. "But not about the important stuff."

Sprawling in the club might be a little over the top, yes.

"Well, you are an importer of goods," Lucifer said, smirking. "Some active discretion is encouraged, I'd imagine."

With his glass in hand, he stood up.

"How about we sit down somewhere?"

"Worried I'll request something tacky?" Duke teased. He stood upright and sipped his drink. "Lead on."

"What, did you have a request?" Lucifer asked him, amused, as he walked towards a seat in the corner.

"Nothing in particular," Duke said, trailing after him. "You just always seem to despair every time I do."

"Maybe if you stopped listening to Jimmy Buffett, I wouldn't have to," Lucifer sighed, sinking into a seat.

"But I am a son of a son of a sailor," Duke said cheerfully. "Which is a much nicer thing to admit than 'son of a son of a murderer'."

Honestly he had no idea if Roy Crocker had ever sailed in his life. But it sounded good.

"That doesn't preclude you from developing a better taste in music, Duke," Lucifer told him, giving him an exasperated look that doubled as a 'sit down, Duke'.

Duke sat down across from him, immediately stretching his legs to entangle them with Lucifer's.

"What can I say? I like what I like. And you can't tell me you don't appreciate a guy who titles his songs things like 'why don't we get drunk and screw'."

"Entertaining titles don't make for good music," Lucifer sighed (and let him get away with the tangling without comment). "So I take it you've slept off your New Years' weekend hangover by now."

"I have. Spent the weekend making sure the Rouge was all cleaned and fixed up. She's not quite used to trips that long anymore."

"What, like she was falling apart?" Lucifer said, tilting his head.

"Please." Duke scoffed. "Of course not. She just needed a tune-up. Keep everything properly greased, you know? A boat like that takes a lot of upkeep when she's in motion and, uh. I was a little distracted."

Lucifer smirked. "I remember," he said, taking a merry sip of his drink.

"I should hope so!" Duke grinned back. "So what about you? Properly, uh, recovered from our trip?"

"It's been rather boring these last few days, bar a visit from Octavia, so I suppose so," Lucifer sighed.

(He'd needed those few boring days to keep him from having a meltdown.)

"Well, hopefully me swinging by tonight will help break up the monotony, too."

[my_own_advocate]

"Depends on whether you're planning to come home with me," Lucifer said, sitting back with his drink.

"I'd love to," Duke said. "Thanks for the invite."
