"Huh." Greg looked up, surprised, as Duke came in for his usual Thursday shift. "You came back."

Behind him, Ali handed Danny some cash, looking annoyed.

"Shut up and get to work," Duke told them. "You all remember I'm your boss, right?"

His kitchen staff just laughed.

Today's specials
CATCH OF THE DAY!
Flounder a la moutarde


"You, uh." Danny leaned in surreptitiously, his voice low. "You remember this is a diner, right?"

Duke rolled his eyes and added to the specials board:

"Better?"

Danny nodded and went back to work.

Luke's was open.

Octavia snorted a little. "I just can't read what it says past the 'flounder'."

She could make up for all of it by reaching up to meet him for that kiss.

The staff could just deal. There was a lightness here that had been missing for a long time.

Octavia gave his fingers a squeeze.

"To regular days," Octavia agreed a little wryly, picking up the drink with an appreciative, fond look at the strawberries.

Then she took a sip. Really focused on giving it a taste.

"... Oh, this is good."

Danny swooped in with her french fries, then darted away to give them privacy. Duke stole one of the smaller fries from the edge of the plate and popped it into his mouth.

"Met any newbies yet?"

Octavia tended to like everything he put in front of her, but it was never not worth it to see his reaction when she said it out loud.

She reached for a fry for herself, too. "Just one."

For her, even that was kind of impressive.

Not quite what he'd asked, but a valid point all the same.

"The Jackdaw was here for a while last summer." About a week or something, but still.
