Wanda didn't have all that much to do at work today, so she was sitting behind the register playing around on her phone. There was a hat on top of her head that she couldn't seem to take off, but she was ignoring that problem for now.

It wasn't that often that Steve was out in his military dress uniform, and it was practically never that he was wearing it with a Santa hat on top. "Hope this thing comes off when I get over the causeway," he said, pointing at it. "I'll be out of uniform otherwise."

"Can they still punish you for that?" Wanda asked, the ball of her own hat swinging as she tilted her head. "Usually there's some leniency for the elderly."

"You're hilarious," Steve said.

"I can be, occasionally," she said with a smile. "You look very handsome, even with the hat."

"Thank you very much," Steve said. "I have an event at Arlington Cemetery."

She nodded, knowing what date it was. "Do you go every year?"

Steve nodded. "I'm one of a few left around who remember," he said. "I have a duty."

"Duty or not, it's still nice of you to do." She wondered if she'd be doing that for Sokovia when she was one of the few left.

"I prefer to do it a little more under the radar," Steve admitted, cheeks pinking up. "This time I have to do a speech in uniform."

"Oh god." Yeah, no thank you. "Now I see the importance of the hat coming off."

"It will not go over well," Steve vastly understated. "I mean, the guy's'll think it's hilarious. The Defense Secretary not as much."
