The Perk- Tuesday afternoon

Jaina couldn't get a portal till this evening, so she had time to kill between then and class, so the Perk was good for that. She got a drink and found a table by the window to people watch.

That lasted for about thirty seconds before she noticed one of the baristas watching her. "Something wrong?" Jaina asked.

"Just people watching people watchers," the barista said.

Sure. Why not.

After class, Lana headed for coffee, and couldn't help but notice she was following the instructor.

She smiled as she stepped up to the counter. "Fancy meeting you here."

"Well it is a small town that kind of has me as a hostage till my portal arrives," Jaina said lightly.

"You commute each week?" Lana raised an eyebrow. "That seems like a lot to trust Portalocity with."

[solo_sword]

"It really is." And Jaina had a years long battle with them! "I didn't have much of a choice. I didn't sign up to teach myself and I have things to get back to at home."

"Ah. One of those island things, is it?" Lana shook her head. "Well, I'm selfishly pleased to have you teaching, anyway. Even if I'm not sure today had much to do with piloting."

"Gotta keep you on your toes," Jaina said. "It's one way to make flying something that's mostly on autopilot not boring."

"Somehow I doubt I'll be serving drinks and snacks on an Alliance shuttle," Lana said wryly. She grinned. "Although now I'm tempted, if only to keep people on their toes wondering why."

"If it helps, I'm pretty sure that's the only class like this we'll have," Jaina assured her. "Pretty sure."

"I won't deny I know some people who could use that sort of instruction," Lana said. "Although really, I was hoping for a bit more 'how to manoeuvre and avoid crashes' myself."

"I can make it happen. Possibly how to safely crash land, too," Jaina said. "That's invaluable."

"It wouldn't go amiss," Lana agreed. "Can you also teach how not to total every shuttle? I have some people I'd like to learn that."

"I worry that anyone who totals every shuttle does it for fun, and either way I bounce them," Jaina admitted.

"And when they're your commander?" Lana asked. "Honestly, I'd assign him a personal pilot if our best ones weren't all insane."

Because pilots.

"But are they insane without crashing?" Jaina asked.

[unusual_sith]

Lana thought about that. "Sometimes. Most of them are smugglers, though, so they've got a bit more respect for the ships."
