“Hey,” Duke said as he came in. “Have you all heard about the crab working at the clinic?”

The staff mostly shrugged. Greg went pale.

“Oh no,” he said. “Now we can’t serve crab dishes anymore!”

“I mean,” Duke said. “It doesn’t actually mean that, though.”

“Sure it does!” Greg insisted. “Why do you think we don’t serve squirrel?!”

Duke decided it was best not to try to argue with his staff today.

"Isn't it illegal to ban crab on a Maryland restaurant menu?" Lucifer asked, stepping into the diner with a confused frown.

“Greg is having an ethical issue,” Duke said with a shrug. “Because there’s a crab in the clinic.”

"Don't they have creams for that?" Lucifer asked, as he came up to the counter.

Duke snorted hard enough that he choked. “Shit, I should have asked Cop!Steve that.”

Lucifer beamed. "I hope your cop snark isn't getting rusty," he teased.

“It might be,” Duke admitted. “Fuck, we actually started planning a beach party.”

"You? And law enforcement?" Lucifer said, his eyebrows raising. "Really?"

“It’s these damn Fandom cops,” Duke protested. “They’re all so . . . ridiculous.”

"And that overrides your deeply-held beliefs about police officers?" Lucifer inquired, curious.

“I wouldn’t have thought so,” Duke admitted. “I think I might be going soft.”

Even, *gasp!* domesticated.

Lucifer made an amused noise. "Horrifying," he teased.

“You laugh,” Duke said, putting on a show of being affronted. “I’m having an existential crisis and you laugh!”

"I'm not the one who's planning a party with a previously repressed police officer," Lucifer said, unrepentant.

Duke opened and closed his mouth a few times.

“. . . Yeah, okay, fair.”

Lucifer chuckled, and took the few steps required to bring him close enough to Duke to cup his face and kiss him hello.

What? He was charming when he was exaggeratedly flustered.

It was one of his greater skills!

Duke kissed back happily. He could think of worse fates than being domesticated by Fandom.

Lucifer grinned at him as he broke away. "Existential crisis over, or do I have to kiss you some more?"

“Hmmm, think there might be some lingering anxiety to take care of,” Duke decided. “Maybe one more kiss.”

"I'll do my best," Lucifer promised, and leaned in to give him one.

It was, ah. Thorough.

One had to be, to remove all hint of anxiety.

Duke was definitely not arguing (though his staff was rolling their eyes).

He wrapped his arms around Lucifer’s shoulders and showed his appreciation for Lucifer’s thoroughness.

"How's that?" Lucifer said, when he pulled away again, smirking (and a little hoarse).

“Wonderful,” Duke said. “I feel very secure now.”

Lucifer chuckled (and maybe gave Duke's arse a surreptitious pat before he stepped away). "That's what I'm here for," he said. "Well, that, and floating an idea of Octavia's by you."

“Oh yeah?” Duke asked. “What’s that?”

"She wants me to have a date that's just about things I like," Lucifer said. "And... I like you as much as I do her, so..."

He cleared his throat. (He blamed the earlier domestication discourse for his nervousness.) "Would you be all right with doing fancy dinner and an opera for the three of us?"
