Buck had learned his lesson since last week. This time when he went to open one of the cabinets to refresh the medical supplies on the rig, he made sure to lean back so he wouldn't get hit with confetti...only no confetti came out.

Figuring that maybe it was a one time thing, Buck shrugged and went to grab supplies.

And that's when the confetti came out, hitting him in the face.

God. Damn. It.

With the Wednesday activities wrapping up last week, Will had one final delivery of two more shirts to make with Buck during his break, so he stopped off at the Perk to pick up a couple of iced coffees as well.

"... Do I want to know?" Will asked, trying not to laugh at the sight of his friend covered in confetti.

"I feel like the whole station is booby trapped." That was what Buck thought. Eddie, however, thought it was a weird sex thing involving their boss.

Buck preferred his theory.

“Wouldn’t surprise me,” Will commented. Nor would the other thing, honestly. “On the bright side, you do look kinda- festive. Like that.”

No, he hadn’t been about to say a different word there, don’t be ridiculous.

"I guess Labor Day is coming up," Buck said, shaking confetti out of his hair. "Never considered it a holiday to decorate for before now."

“I think this place’ll take just about any reason for a party,” Will agreed, holding out one of the iced coffees for Buck to take.

"Thanks, man," Buck said, happily accepting the free drink. "I think Steve and Danny are planning to set stuff on fire and call it a party for Labor Day, so you are right about that."

“Any stuff in particular?” Will asked, eyebrow raised.

"Free t-shirts," Buck replied before taking a sip of his coffee. "I don't get it, but people are allowed to do what they want with their free t-shirts.

“I mean, one of these has that Anakin guy’s face all over it,” Will said, holding up the shirts he brought. “So I can see how some people might be tempted to go that route.”

"Okay, that one might go in the bonfire," Buck said, laughing. "I don't know the guy well enough to be wearing his face on my chest."

“The other one’s not bad though,” Will added, tossing both over. “Even if I don’t think I’ll be looking at chocolate pudding the same for… a long time. Maybe ever.”

"Thanks," Buck said, grinning as he caught the shirts. "Must have been a tragic chocolate pudding experience. I mean, I've literally pulled a man out of a vat of chocolate and it didn't put me off chocolate."

“First off, of course you did, why am I even surprised. Second… the vat of chocolate probably wasn’t outdoors in the heat of summer, I’m betting.” Because that had definitely contributed to the unpleasantness.

"No it was a chocolate factory." A real Willy Wonka situation, Will. "Dude almost drowned in chocolate. Sounds delicious until you see it in person."

"How does that even happen? Aren't there, you know... safety protocols?"

Said the man who had a mental list of 'weird stuff people stuck up their butt', yes. LIFE FINDS A WAY.

"Never underestimate how stupid a human being can be," Buck said. "Especially when it comes to free chocolate."

“You’d think I’d have learned that lesson by now,” Will said, though statistically Buck probably saw the results of human stupidity more than he did.

"Come on, I know you've seen some weird shit," Buck said with a laugh. "When firefighters drag people out of dumb situations they bring them to you."

"True," Will nodded. "But sometimes they've recovered their dignity enough that they're, like, sexting in the middle of the ED." Or were still completely wasted enough. One of those two.

"That's a good point," Buck said with a nod. "Or they were pumped full of the good pain meds in the ambulance."

“Seeing it in the field just adds a certain… je ne sais quoi, I think,” Will said. And yeah sometimes it was less funny and more tragic, but… you had to joke about the funny ones, it helped get you through the tragic ones.

"Not to mention to do cool stuff," Buck said. "Like hanging off a ladder, trying to pull a guy out of chocolate without falling in yourself."

“I’ll leave that part to you, I think,” Will laughed.
