pocketpretzels: (rolling up sleeves)

The Perk, Monday Afternoon

You know, eventually, Watts might see fit to invest in a coffee machine of his own. Until then, why bother, when there was a place that served them not too far of a walk from his apartment?

Having acquired his mocha, Watts flopped down at a table and pulled out his mobile telephone and his notebook. He still had more planning to do regarding his and Steven's trip next month, after all. Might as well do it here.

Jon had a perfectly good coffee machine. Unfortunately, he preferred tea, and his skills were...lacking.

So, here he was, getting an earl grey latte.

"Detective Watts," he offered with a nod.

"It's been well so far, thank you," Jon answered. "I hope you're having a good day."

"That sounds good," Jon said, blissfully unaware of anything else he might mean.

Come on, Jon. You could do this. Small talk didn't have to be world-shattering.

"I'm curious how you're adjusting so far to this century."

"There are quite a few differences, I imagine." Jon smiled. "If you've managed to learn your way around a computer yet, you're ahead of people a few generations your junior."

Jon nodded. "They really can be wonderful. And using one puts you better off than either of my last two bosses."

He paused.

"Um. Granted, one was actually a couple hundred years old, so...so maybe not the best comparison. And they were both...well, evil. But still, they both lived in the modern world for a lifetime."

Oh, Elias and Peter were absolutely corrupt, too.

"They, um. They served evil...entities. Gods. A-and wanted to bring about the end of the world."

And then there was that.

Well, this was awkward.

"They, um. Peter, h-he. He was dead. Beforehand." Because Jon had exploded his head. "But Elias - Jonah - he." Jon rubbed his burnt hand with the other one. "It worked. But, um. But he's dead now," because Jon had stabbed him, "and it's...better. I think. I hope."

Yay?
