Dite's Decadent Delights | Wednesday
Today, what with it being fall now -- or, at the very least, close enough that aspiring, cooler-preferring minds might try to will it as such -- Irene was hard at work decorating her front display table.
Yes, yes, of course it was resplendent with pumpkins and little leaves and a candle here and there scented like apples or 'harvest.' Certainly.
But, you know. Other things might steal the focus a bit.
Dite's was open.

(And lest she start getting any thoughts regarding that green one...)
"Irene," she announced stoutly, "you're just not going to believe what just happened over at the bakery just now..."

"Tall order, 'round here," Irene replied with a grin, glancing up from where she was arranging that tentacle-y grinder toy just so. (And was just so sort of...angled towards Amaya in the hopes of sneaking into her peripheral vision despite her efforts, because Irene knew her audience, and some things never changed? Of course.) "But try me, love, what on earth happened at the bakery?"

"Bungled up the order," she explained to Irene, although it would be fair if you didn't realize that's who this answer was addressed to, the way her eyes were very distinctly off in the opposite direction of whatever angling was happening with that display, and thus hardly focused on the woman doing the angling. She did hold up the bag, though, for additional emphasis. "Almost like they're taking a page from the Perk, or something! Got me scones instead of muffins, and, well, for the trouble, they figured I might as well keep all of them, but what am I going to do, with all those baked goods? But then I remembered, why, Irene's shop's just a stone's throw away, I'll just swing on by, see if she might be interested in lending a helping hand on this particular conundrum..."

Or, well. Perhaps not the scones themselves, so much as how much she adored this little dance. "You're sweet to think of me, Amaya," she replied, and she of course meant in light of this accident, and was not, naturally, referencing the moment Amaya had likely deliberately ordered scones. "I think I could take a break from the display -- " and look, she'd let up a bit, but as though she couldn't gesture on the word display "-- for a scone or two. Just to help."
What were good...friendly business acquaintances for, after all?

A pause, a little more sidling over, a playful attempt at a peek in the bag. "Not a complaint, mind. I'm quite fond of the stuff."

And the peeking would turn out to be wholly unnecessary, as now that Irene had sidled into a much safer proximity, Amaya could even look her way enough to make sure that when she handed the bag over for perusal, it wasn't going to be inadvertently and awkwardly just shoved into the other woman's face.
"I tried it some coffee the other day," she was somewhat proud to report, even if it did come with a shake of her head. "Not the worst thing in the world, but I just don't get what the hype is."

But he paused when he saw the display. "Good lord."
