Stark Industries - Saturday

Kamala had spent most the week and a good deal of the morning prepping for the Stark Open House so that everything was perfect. It wasn’t a Stark gala or party but instead the lobby was open to all and featured holographic and interactive exhibits showing the history of Stark Industries as well as a video talking about the Tony Stark.

Luckily for everyone’s sanity, the mysterious loop of AC/DC was gone and the gremlins at the Starbucks were behaving themselves.

Meanwhile for those not interested in the history of Stark Industries there was plenty of food and drinks coming out of the kitchen under the ever efficient eye of Muneeba Khan while Kamala’s father was trying to convince the gremlins they needed a retirement plan.

Look at the exhibits! Gawk at the gremlins! I don’t know. I’m not the boss of you.

Yes, Kamala’s mother had taken it upon herself to ensure the food was coming out in perfect order. A mom is going to mom.

"Is the video really necessary?" Tony asked a redheaded woman who was busy on a tablet next to him. "I look ridiculous in it."

Ahh, the level of whiny that only Pepper got because she'd ignore it.

"Yes, Tony," Pepper said, indeed ignoring it as she went through the employee list with a little frown of concentration. "You need need to sign off on these still."

“Mr. Stark,” Kamala said with a nod of greeting. “Ms. Potts, I assume? We haven’t formally met, I’m Kamala Khan. The intern here. ”

And yes, Kamala was definitely trying to play it cool with meeting Pepper, but the bouncing on the balls of her feet probably gave it away.”

"Ms. Khan," Pepper said with a quick, tight smile as she flicked to the information on her internship. The stress levels that came from people not from their universe being employed... "Thank you for helping get this all together."

Luma had been fussing about what to wear once it was decided that they would drop in on the open house, worried that she might have looked too old-fashioned and out of date for the future, and everything, and Eleanor was slightly exasperated about it because why did that even matter? So they were arriving much later than she would have preferred or that they even intended, once Luma felt satisfied that she'd updated her make-up to suit modern styles after pouring over pictures on Eleanor's phone.

She even tried to brush down Rhys' hair, but, of course, it seemed to have more of a mind than Rhys himself and defied any attempts, but the three young Zarrins made their way to the open house eventually, Luma's eyes sharp and darting around as she seemed to take in everything, Rhys' dull and vacant as if he was off in another world, and Eleanor's just resigned and nervous and half hoping to spot Kamala looking too busy to be bothered so that she could just declare it a bad time for it and scoot her family away before Luma had the chance to pounce.

"Pepper!" Steve called, coming in through the front door with a bright smile.

"Captain Rogers," Pepper replied, bobbing her head slightly. As the third person out there who could corral Tony, he was one of her favorites. Behind Rhodey.

"Captain," Tony muttered. "I don't get that kind of respect anymore."

Gee, wonder why!

"Is this the part where you talk about how many doctorates you have?" Steve teased.

"If you want me to call you Dr. Stark, you're going to have to do actually attend board meetings," Pepper informed him, ignoring the groan of despair from Tony. "And give more feedback to R&D than 'ew' and vague scribbles in the margins."

“Just happy to pitch in!” Kamala said cheerfully. “Is there anything you need?”

"Kamala has been a great addition to the shop here," Tony added loyally. "Very on point."

He had no clue what anyone actually did, but nothing had exploded yet, so...

Pepper shot Tony a side eye because she was the glue that kept his professional life together.

"I'm just fine, thank you for asking."

Too bad, El! Kamala was on the look out and was already heading to you and your family like a missile. What nervousness she did feel was slight washed away at the sight of Eleanor. It also helped that Kamala was wearing her suit today so it gave her a bit more confidence.

She flashed a grin at Eleanor before walking up directly to Luma and Rhys. “Hi! I’m Kamala!” She said offering her hand for handshakes. “It’s so nice to meet you! Luma and Rhys, right?”

The smile Eleanor gave back had layers: mostly of apology, but also of gratitude for the fact that Kamala almost never seemed to even hesitate to throw herself into a situation, and of...well, would anyone really expect her to see Kamala in that suit and not appreciate it?

Luma, meanwhile, noticed her approaching, of course, took in a deep breath that confirmed what she suspected, and then flashed her own grin at Eleanor: a toothy one that showed off the sharpness of her piranha-like teeth, especially as her attention shifted toward Kamala and the offered hand. She took it, and gripped it tight.

"Kamala," she said. "Hello. Eleanor's told us so much about you in her letters. And yes. I'm Luma, this is Rhys."

Rhys was just sort of standing there next to her, staring off into space and nothing in particular, until Luma cleared her throat a little and Eleanor, wincing, said, "Say hello to Kamala, Rhys," at which point he seemed to blink back into awareness and turn toward her with a smile and nodded.

"Hello, Kamala."

"Eleanor says this is where you work?" Luma asked, releasing Kamala's hand and giving another cursory glance

"He works very hard on those ews," Steve said loyally.

Tony beamed at him, leaning over for a kiss on the cheek for it. "Sometimes they need the feedback!"

"Board meetings," Pepper said more firmly. Then looked at Steve for backup here. Don't you disappoint Ms. Potts, Steve. Don't you do it.

If the teeth or the grip was supposed to intimidate Kamala she showed no sign of it. After all it wasn’t like Luma was threatening to kill her or harm her. She did her best not to wince when she shook Luna’s hand though. She just continued to act as the perfect host.

“Yes, but I’m just an intern,” Kamala explained. “So I just do a lot of the small stuff around here. Are you guys hungry? You probably don’t care about the exhibits as that’s all super hero stuff. The food is good though!”

"How many?" Steve asked. Please don't say "all of them", Pepper. Everyone knows that won't happen.

"I have a schedule," Pepper said, already pulling it up on her tablet to send to JARVIS. "At least half of them need to be attended to avoid the holdouts from Howard's days. And also one gala that isn't Avengers related."

"But people love Avengers events!"
