Parents Weekend Brunch, The Park, Sunday

Event weekends were always a great time for people who loved free food, weren't they? Parents' Weekend might be drawing to a close, but the island had saved its best spread for today, with tables full of sandwiches, soups and salads, and seasonally appropriate desserts -- cinnamon and apples and candy apples, just to name a few.

Come in, drop by, have that last surprise run-in with someone's relative...

Summer did not have guests for Parents Weekend, but she still had to deal with her family, so did that still count enough for her to crash the PW brunch? She was saying it did, dammit, because she'd just gotten back, took the longest shower ever (still not long enough to ever wash off all the bullshit), and was starving, so she was hoping she'd gotten back in time for it, and, lo and behold, she had. Thank you, school sponsored event weekends! So she had her food and she was eating voraciously, and, no, she didn't want to talk about it, but you better believe she was avoiding anything even remotely pumpkin spice related.

Raiden had already had breakfast with his brothers, but that didn't mean he couldn't have second breakfast! Wasn't that the whole point of brunch?

Shush, it was if you were Raiden.

He was a little bit worried that Arden hadn't replied to his texts asking if she wanted to join them--he'd made breakfast cake, since she'd seemed to like it so much--but she was probably just sleeping late, or spending time with her own...uh, whatever the hell Duke and Grimm were to her. Or her friends!

Anyway, he was here, and that was a lot of food. On his plates, and also on the tables.

Gray tried to stay awake and hang out with his brothers a little bit more, but it was so hard, and he'd probably be found taking a nap draped across a picnic table or something if you didn't manage to get to him during an awake spell. But he was here, and on the lookout for his friends!

Daman had been dragged out of bed at the asscrack of dawn (so like, eightish) to have breakfast with his brothers, and while it was now far enough up in the day that he more or less qualified as 'awake,' he was reinforcing that status with coffee. Lots and lots of blessed coffee.

The coffee also gave him something to do with his mouth when Raiden mentioned being worried about Arden other than snapping at him that obviously she didn't want to hang around with ~~Daman~~ them, she probably had other, much cooler friends that she liked a lot more she was spending the weekend with. Just because it was probably true didn't mean they wanted to hear it.

So, yeah, Envy was having a real one over here.

You might think Stark would have been right there as soon as Summer was spotted. You'd be wrong. Chiana was faster and Chiana had thrown her arms around Summer delightedly before Stark could even get close.

"You came back!"

And Summer tried her best not to wince, because it had been a rough weekend, and she at least wanted to finish her waffles before Stark started fussing over any bumps and bruises and scrapes and fucking little alien bite marks of the very much not fun variety.

"Hey, Chiana. I did! Sorry about missing, like,most the weekend. My family seriously has the worst timing for these kinds of things."

Bellamy had one last chance to explore the delights of this island and he was positively thrilled to do so, working his way through the crowd flashing flirty looks here and there.

Alastair was mildly distracted and, honestly, glad their portal back to Echo Bay was getting closer by the minute. It wasn't that he was afraid Castor and Galen would burn the house down in their absence (although...also that), so much as that, reading between the texts, he suspected Joseph more 'didn't want him to worry' than 'felt perfectly fine, really, you enjoy your time with your brothers.'

Would anyone guess this looking at him? Absolutely not. He was, as ever, perfectly composed and only checking his phone a normal number of times.

"I kept Stark busy for you," Chiana said. "And tried to get some woman to buy me drinks last night and then said Stark could buy us both drinks but he got real nervous about having to tell some guy with dark glasses about taking Liliana out for drinks with me."

Such a mystery, that.

"Sorry about the family though."

At that point Stark slid next to Summer on the other side and offered a quiet "hi" and a kiss to Summer's cheek. "Missed you."

"Yeah," Summer murmured dryly with a shake of her head to Chiana's sympathy, "me, too."

But she did smile for Stark as he joined them and leaned in for that kiss on the cheeks, and then sort of lean on him because it had been a looooong handful of days.

"Hi," she said back. And, if she wasn't understanding Chiana's story right, she added, smirking faintly, "You know you wouldn't have had to tell Ignis anything at all, right?"

"Liliana said I'd have to tell him," Stark muttered.

And honestly, wasn't it for the best that Liliana and Chiana didn't spend too much time together? And that Chiana and her 'I was blind once and it wasn't not Stark's fault' story hadn't been introduced to Ignis ~~yet~~?

Chiana just grinned. "He didn't want to so he had to keep me entertained all by himself, again."

"Yeah, well," Summer said, "my vote trumps Liliana's because I'm your girlfriend and I've known Ignis longer than she has, too, so I say you don't have to tell Ignis shit if you don't want to."

She was probably going to tell this to Ignis now, though, if Liliana hadn't, but that was entirely different.

"So what's you guys do instead?"

Stark just looked over at Summer with gratitude.

"It seemed easier not to say anything," he said. "I don't know how to speak to him, anymore."

"Why?" Chiana demanded. There was clearly a story here! She was feeling left out. "You two have an ugly breakup?"

She turned back to Summer then. "Did they? We just hung out in his apartment and had some drinks and so much chocolate."

"I'd have been disappointed if there hadn't been chocolate involved," said Summer, nodding approvingly, "and that's your saving grace on not doing something at least a little more exciting.

"But no," she then offered, because if there was one thing she loved, it was telling stories about other people, especially when one of those people was right there next to her, "not a break-up. Stark just almost killed Liliana this one time because he thought she was dying and Ignis has been butthurt about it ever since."

Which was fair, in her opinion, but she wasn't going to say that in front of Stark unless she felt he deserved it.

Ugh, Grimm was ready to leave this miserable little island for once and forever, but apparently they needed to stick around awhile longer 'just in case.' A bargain was made: she'd stay and even be helpful if Arden somehow took a turn for the worse, and he wouldn't tell Callista about her tardiness.

Ugh. This was worse than an elven mixer.

...okay, that wasn't true. At least she could murder people there and not have to worry about breaking the Detente.

Oh! Well, look at that! Finally something was going her way.

Grimm sauntered over to Bellamy with a sultry smile, practically licking her lips as she took him in again. "Well hello there," she purred, eyes changing from sapphire blue to their normal dravite. "I knew there was a reason sticking around would be worth my while."

If Alastair had not given him certain information regarding Arden and her, should we say, anxieties after the weekend she'd spent in Echo Bay, and if Bellamy had not already made the acquaintance of Agatha of the Blackwood this weekend (and remained in hope of making the better acquaintance of her son), he might have been obliged to help things continue to go Grimm's way.

As it was, he gave her a polite smile with as little heat in it as Bellamy ever brought to bear and said, "Grimm. Long time, no see." If he could have kept his eyes their default hazel, he would have, but alas, that was an automated Lust process.

Best of luck to Arden if Grimm ever found out the role she played in this, too.

"Excuse me?" Grimm said, stopping short and raising a scarlet eyebrow at that tone more than anything else.

Would it help to know that her reaction just now had just become the main reason it would absolutely not be happening? No one was entitled to Lust's attentions, and especially when it would be a repeat he wouldn't risk it. That was how he ended up with someone so obsessed Alastair had to wipe their memory or they had to move to another continent for a while.

"Long time no see," Bellamy repeated, like he thought she might genuinely not have caught that. (He did not think that at all, of course.) "I hope you've been well?"

"Why are you doing your Alastair imitation?" Daman wanted to know, but Bellamy just mentally shushed him.

Summer wasn't wrong but Stark wasn't going to say that out loud either.

"That's not..." he protested weakly. It was sort of what had happened, though.

"Stark, you're supposed to know better," Chiana chided. "How'd you frell it up so bad?"

Now he was just going to sigh heavily until Chiana actually reached over and poked him in the shoulder.

"I thought she was already dying but it was far more complicated than that so I thought I was helping but I only made it worse but then I was stuck and I couldn't stop and it was...it was bad. And then I did help but not voluntarily and...I wouldn't forgive me either, if I were him."

Maybe if he stole a bite of waffle off Summer's plate he'd feel better?

Listen, nobody would accuse Adrian of being a smooth operator. He had earnestness and charisma working in his favor and that was about it. But he did usually have a higher bar for interaction than walking into a table when catching sight of someone.

But then again, this was the first time he'd ever caught sight of Daman, so perhaps some allowances could be made.

"Ow, dammit! I mean, um, hello."

Shit, where was his hat? He should have made sure to have grabbed his hat before they'd left the house!
