Trooper Station, Friday

There was a duck in one of the holding cells when Watts arrived, and a flamingo in another. Both birds were squawking angrily at each other, loud enough to be heard throughout the entire station. Including Watts's office.

Why didn't he just let them go? Well. The log clearly said they were supposed to be on a 24 hour hold for, quote, "bird crimes". And who was he to argue with the log?

So he was just... dealing with the noise.

Steven came in at the usual time. He beelined for Llewellyn's office, as per usual, but then found himself distracted by the noise. So there he was, staring in the direction of the holding cells.

The cacophony was definitely starting to get to Watts, if the way his entire face was wrinkled in annoyance was any indication.

Taking a deep breath that was really more of a sigh, he lifted his head and- spotted Steven. Standing near the doorway but not actually moving to come through it in to the office. "Darling?"

Steven pointed in the direction of the noise. "What on earth?"

"A duck and a flamingo," Watts replied, as if that explained everything.

"What did they do?" Steven asked.

[pocketpretzels]

"The log does not get any more specific than 'bird crimes'," Watts said, grimacing as yet another round of angry squawks and quacks started up. "Perhaps there was a noise complaint."

Steven winced at the noise. "Should we go elsewhere for our lunch? A picnic outside, perhaps?"

"Would that be all right?" Watts asked, looking visibly relieved by the suggestion.

"It's no trouble at all," Steven said. "Lunch is easily portable, today."

[pocketpretzels]

"Wonderful!" Watts beamed at him, whirling out of his chair and grabbing his hat to meet Steven where he stood. "Let us go, then."

"It's a nice change of pace anyway, isn't it?" Steven asked, raising his voice to be heard over the noise. "Silver lining and all that."

[pocketpretzels]

"Indeed," Watts agreed. "And at least the weather is cooperating for such an outing."

"I've cool drinks for us as well," Steven said. "Shall we go to the park?"

[pocketpretzels]

"You did think of everything," Watts said fondly. "Let's." He didn't reach for Steven's arm, but he did stand nice and close as they headed out of the station.

Steven walked beside him. "I don't have a blanket or anything but we can find a bench, perhaps?"

"Let's avoid the duck pond," Watts said drily.

That startled a happy laugh out of Steven. "Yes, agreed. Somewhere shady though?"

"Oh yes," Watts said, nodding emphatically.

Steven looked around, then pointed to a spot under a tree. "How about there? Seems quiet as well."

[pocketpretzels]

"I like it," Watts agreed, and now with fewer eyes directly on them he did take Steven's arm in his as he steered them in the direction Steven had indicated.

Steven hadn't minded Llewellyn being discreet, but all the same he smiled proudly when Llewellyn took his arm. "We can enjoy some fresh air as well."

"Far preferable to being cooped up in an office, even without the added waterfowl-related noise."

Steven smiled at Llewellyn affectionately. "I love you, you know."

They arrived at the bench in question. Steven nodded for Llewellyn to get seated first.

"I love you too," Watts replied, before taking a seat.

Approaching the bench from the side and stepping on to it over the armrest before folding himself down into a sitting position, because why would he sit down normally?

Steven smiled affectionately as he watched Llewellyn sit. He then used the seat of the bench to rest the insulated bag on. First he took out two pineapple slushies.

He handed one to Llewellyn. "Here. To drink."
