Taste of Thai, Thursday Evening

Lydia had selected Taste of Thai for this week's Supper Club based on a vague sense of 'We haven't been there in a while, have we?' but as she arrived for the evening she was wondering if perhaps she should have just taken everyone to one of the bars instead.

No, no. Surely they were all recovered enough from their guests to not need to drink about it. That was silly. Right? Probably.

Rey had had a good weekend, no drinking needed! But you know what was needed? Thai food.

"This is a good choice," she said. "I kind of wanted this today."

"What's considered a proper drink?" Rey checked.

"No, they put coconut milk in the tea and serve it cold," Lydia reported sadly.

He had been asking about tea, right?

"Oh, how fortunate!" Lydia exclaimed. "I was thinking that it had been some time." It had been some time, hadn't it? Who knew with Lydia's brain.

"It's definitely been long enough," Rey agreed. How long? Who knew, who cared. "How was your weekend?"

"Oh, it was lovely," Lydia assured her.

(Aside from that interlude where Boston had sat on Bran outside her window, caterwauling about Kitty's absence. But that somehow hadn't made the radio because it happened offscreen, so Lydia was pretending it hadn't happened.)

"I was visited by my patroness, Miss Lambe, and my--and Wickham." Wait, no, there was a noun she could use to describe Wickham to people without the 'h' word. "My familiar. I believe I saw amongst my notes for the radio that you had some guests, as well?"

"Yeah. Mr. Chewbacca and Mr. BB-8." She loved that. Loved it. "I didn't think I was having any guests, but they surprised me last minute."

"All right, but is there alcohol in the tea?" Henry asked.

"Why would you do that to tea?" Lydia asked, confused.

The poor tea. It suffered so in the New World.

"I am sorry our paths didn't cross," Lydia told her. "I'm sure I should have liked to meet them." Would Rey have liked to meet Wickham? Probably not.

"Because I really need a stiff drink at the moment," Henry said. Politely, he felt. "And I don't think boiled leaves will be enough."

"Oh, probably not. Unless there's a special drinks menu." Which there almost definitely wasn't.

"BB-8 especially would love you," Rey smiled, and because she had heard about him before, asked, "How did things go with Wickham?"

"I suppose you could ask someone if they sell strong drink," Lydia said, but she really wasn't sure how these things worked, not being much for imbibing herself. She left that to the likes of Wickham and Flint.

Henry sighed. "I may have to go to the tavern after this," he said. He eyed Rey. "You seem happy. I take it your weekend was all right?"

"It was fine," Lydia vagued. "Of course a witch and her familiar are not supposed to spend so much time so far apart--and in so many ways--but his work on Sainte Josephine is very important, and something about the multidimensionality of all does help. Miss Lambe tried to explain it but I understood not a word. But it was--very good to see him again."

"Perhaps Flint would know," Henry said, echoing her narrative without realizing it. "Ah well." He shook his head. "How was your weekend?" he asked.

"I'm glad," Rey said. "And that miltidimensionality helps. I didn't know it could do that."

"Oh, it was quite nice," Lydia assured him. "My--patroness, I suppose you could say, visited, so I showed her about the island a bit." She was just not going to mention Wickham to someone who might find an unrelated man visiting even more out of place than modern folk thought him. "I believe I read that you had a visitor as well?"
