Yeah, so.

Not only were the walls of the shop a fetching shade of peach today, all of a sudden, but all the new inventory that had come in this morning was also all peach. Seriously. All of it.

So guess all Wonka's was selling today was any peach flavored candy you had ever wanted to sample.

A HELP WANTED sign hung in the window. It was particular apt today.

"...do I want to know about the peach thing?" Because wow. Hardcore on the theme.

"It's not by choice," Bucky told him immediately. Immediately. "None of it. I don't know what the hell is going on with any of it."

"I believe you," Tony replied with too much sincerity for it to be true.

[shapethecentury]

Which did not escape Bucky's notice. "Oh come on, like I would choose a peach theme."

"I said I believed you!" He just... you know... was grinning now. "It's one of those days, I think."

"Yeah, I'm beginning to notice," Bucky sighed, leaning against the counter. "So what brings you by, Tony? In the market for some peach stuff? 'Cause I got it."

So much of it.

"Just felt like stopping by." Making sure no one went off to war and got turned into an assassin or anything. The usual. "But the candy does sound good."

Bucky gestured at the displays. "Please, take as much as you want," he said. "Then take it away. Hell, take some for Steve while you're at it."

Poor, poor Steve.

"Because we need Steve on that much sugar," Tony replied, imagining this version of Steve on a sugar high. And oh god.

Shrug. "I'm not the one who has to live with him, so I don't care."

He was heartless.

And hoping for video material, should such an event ever occur.

Oh, that would happen. Because they were in the 'STEVE, NO' club.

"You're a cruel man, Barnes."

[shapethecentury]

He shrugged again.

"So I've been told." And he did not seem even the tiniest bit sorry about that, to boot. "Mostly by Steve."

"Well, if you have a bag, I could be persuaded to bring something for Steve."

An entire bag of candy for his insane metabolism.

[shapethecentury]

"We get people here getting candy for big parties," Bucky replied, "we definitely have bags."

In fact, he was already reaching for one.

"I'm terrified of what will come of this, just for the record."

And yet doing nothing to stop it. Hmmm.

"Still don't see you doing a damn thing to try and stop it," Bucky also noted, holding out a bag for him. "Funny, that."

"Isn't it just?" Tony asked innocently, taking the bag. "How are you, peaches aside?"

[shapethecentury]

"Fine," Bucky said, shrugging. As if he would've said anything else to that question. "The peaches are kinda overwhelming anything else right now."

So much repression in that generation.

Because Tony was a paragon of mental health, you know.

"I'm taking some off your hands."

[shapethecentury]

Bucky was just rehearsing for the future!

Not that he knew that.

"Thanks," he said, leaning against the counter again. "What a hero."

That last part was a joke.

Damn it, Barnes!

"You could at least swoon at that," Tony shot back.

[shapethecentury]

"Nah."

Sorry, Tony.

"Been so long since I was around any of the girls back home that did that I've forgotten how."

"Not enjoying the dating kiddie pool here?"

[shapethecentury]

"Seems to be a whole lot of youngsters, from what I can tell."

And guys.

"There is that," Tony agreed. "Not exactly the place to come looking for love."

Just trauma.

Bucky snorted. "Good thing I came looking for money."

[imafuturist]

"And now you're rich in candy."

Thank you, Tony.

[shapethecentury]

"Hey, I'm also doing okay with 1940s money," Bucky retorted. "Or at least my folks are."

He didn't keep a lot for himself.

That sort of softened Tony's expression. Because it was so wholesome and far from his own experiences.

"Steve has assured me that five dollars used to buy both a house and car in he olden days."

There, emotions managed.

At least Bucky hadn't brought his siblings into it?

"Oh, yeah, and a year's groceries too, in some boroughs," Bucky drawled. "So you can see why it makes a difference."

Don't make this worse when he gets brainwashed. Wait, scratch that. Make it worse. Because yessss up the ante.

"And dinosaurs roamed the streets of Brooklyn," Tony agreed. "Don't worry, they're all in Jersey now."

They were all such disgusting New Yorkers.

It was the only way to be!

"Oh, good," Bucky snarked, rolling his eyes. "They're such a pain in the ass back home. You know we just invented fire and everything?"

"What about the wheel?" People listening in might actually think they believed these things, you know.

[shapethecentury]

"We're still trying out different shapes."

As you do.

"Sorta liking squares but they make for kind of a clunky ride."

Tony cracked up, not really able to help himself. "Such a dark time."
