Llewellyn Watts was a man on a mission. Technically, he'd already accomplished that mission, as he had picked out some vegan mint chocolate fudge from one of the display cases near the counter. The problem was there were also so many other mint-and-chocolate confections. Not to mention the peanut butter and chocolate ones.

Too many choices. Not to mention too many other options not related to either of those.

The amount of choice available in the twenty-first century continued to be incredibly overwhelming.

Bucky had been on the island for several days, now. And he hadn't learned much.

Well. No. Strike that. He'd learned things. It was just that the things he'd learned didn't seem to make a whole hell of a lot of sense. Memories had come back to him and were coming back to him, but they still seemed muddled or mixed up somehow. The world had changed while he'd been on ice, he knew, but there was still so much that just didn't seem possible. And that was even before going into how the letters to Rebecca dated back to the 1940s, while his memories of this place seemed to suggest... something else.

But five days in Fandom was long enough for him to have found out about radio. He still wasn't sure what surveillance tech was providing it with all its info, but he'd made damn sure he wasn't getting the name 'Bucky' on the airwaves again today. Because early this morning, he finally went looking deeper into the only establishment he was sure he'd been to before.

Getting into the candy store through the back wasn't hard. Regular locks weren't really a match to his left hand, after all. As for what he found... Little, but of some worth. Some paperwork with his signature, proving he'd been the manager of this place, for a time. And proving the frustrating, the impossible: that he'd been here in 2016.

But there was also a further clue. Some of the paperwork mentioned an address. Mauvaise Chance Apartments, #-4, 24 Mallard Way.

Guess he knew where he was going next.

( ooc: establishy! squirrels, please note: that Wonka's was broken into is fine for broadcast, but Bucky's identity is NFB, please and thank you! )

The rest of the Halloween candy had arrived. Oh boy, had it ever. The entire shop was decked in orange and black and practically bursting at the seams in a way that made Bucky feel half surprised candy wasn't just going spilling out into the street with customers coming in or going out through the door.

At least when he managed to focus more on the matters at hand than what was keeping his brain occupied, anyway. Everything was changing, and he kept on thinking about home even when he was here. kept on thinking about what the future held – for him, personally. The things he knew about, and the things he didn't.

The radio seemed to be stuck on a channel that had decided to dedicate Tuesdays to swing music. It felt fitting.

Yeah, so.

Not only were the walls of the shop a fetching shade of peach today, all of a sudden, but all the new inventory that had come in this morning was also all peach. Seriously. All of it.

So guess all Wonka's was selling today was any peach flavored candy you had ever wanted to sample.

A HELP WANTED sign hung in the window. It was particular apt today.

Wonka's was full of bunnies.

Chocolate ones, that was. Also chocolate eggs in all imaginable sizes. And some... very, very weird bunny-egg hybrids Bucky honestly didn't want to look at for too long. He was pretty sure there'd been an accident at the factory and now they were trying to pass the results off as a new innovation.

There were a ton of those hashtag things on the packaging they'd been shipped to the store in. Now, Bucky wasn't that well-versed in that mode of communication (wasn't like he had too many people to text who weren't also men out of time) but even he could spot desperation when he saw it.

But all the chocolate figurines – abominations or otherwise – weren't the most important thing on his mind right now. Nah, he'd just been putting some new items in the window display, and he was pretty sure he'd seen something that looked like a giant bunny, outside. So now, he was –– okay, he wasn't proud of this, but his first instinct was to try and Google if bunnies that size were a thing. Hey, this was Maryland! (Of course if he'd taken more of a scenic route to work this morning, he would've known it wasn't Maryland but hey, oh well.) Giant bunnies could've been a Maryland thing!

Except --

"All cellphone service as well as the internet are currently down, Mr. Barnes," his phone told him.

Bucky sighed. "Yeah, JARVIS, I sorta just figured that out."

"Also, this is merely a suggestion, but you might want to lock the door."

Today was going to be interesting, wasn't it?

It was Ezra's second-to-last shift at Wonka's today. Probably. Assuming he made it in next week. It wasn't as if his schedule was set in stone, or any other particularly hard material, for that matter.

He went with the flow.

And today's flow was supposed to involve cake, later. But for now, it was mostly assembling a very fetching display of all manner of apple-flavored sweets in the store's window.

He was trying to sneak foxes into the theme. And failing.

[ooc: Open! May be slow.]

Today's centerpiece at Wonka's was a great big display of bags of Pihlaja marmalade candy. Three guesses as to why Ezra decided that particular fruit of the last international shipment was the best one and deserved to be promoted the hardest.

(It was the fox face on the bag.)

(He wasn't very subtle.)

Wonka's was open and there was a cheerful-enough fox manning the counter, ready to sell treats.

Wonka's, as always, had received new shipments from all around the world (as well as the multiverse). Most of them were run-of-the-mill, as far as sweets went, but then there were things that made Bucky raise his eyebrows. Like the box labeled 'lucky poop candy'.

Turned out they were cute enough. Huh.

Meanwhile, he could occasionally hear something... singing, somewhere between the shelves towards the back of the store. But he'd been a Fandom resident – not to mention a Wonka's employee – for long enough to know he could just ignore that. Probably some of Mr. Wonka's latest innovations causing a racket for no real reason.

Or so he hoped.

A HELP WANTED! sign hung in the window but really, did anyone actually want to help with this place?

Ezra had never had a real job before.

Sure, he'd bartended at Purgatory, but that didn't count. That was still Coterie work. Hardly the same thing as a regular job, even if pouring drinks wasn't as bad as some of his other assignments within the system. This was different. This was... just what it was, and nothing more.

There were still far too many bags of green jelly beans around. But, there was also a sale on newly arrived edible glitter in all the colors of the rainbow! Ezra felt like that was the store welcoming him.

Hello, Wonka's. And hello, Fandom. Ezra was ready to sell you some candy.

Today, there was a sale on lime green jelly beans.

Why?

Because that was all there'd been in the new shipments that had arrived during the night. No chocolates, no marshmallows, no nothing. Just jelly beans. Lime green. And they didn't even taste like lime! They tasted like –– it was a fruit, Bucky could tell you that much, but it wasn't lime. No sir.

He'd already been on hold for 45 minutes now, trying to get in touch with a representative at the company who shipped him these things so he could sort this out.

A HELP WANTED sign hung in the window, and not just because of the jelly bean situation.

Probably.

Wonka's was full of various kinds of Valentine's candy this week. That was only slightly an exaggeration – Bucky honestly felt like it was slightly harder than usual to move around within the store. Everything was red and pink and often shaped like a heart. There was even a small display of vintage Valentine's Day cards (well, some of them were very current for Bucky, and some were plain futuristic), just in case anyone needed a card to go with their dirty candy hearts or their over-priced luxury chocolates.

Bucky was doing his best to just stay behind the counter and work on the books or something. He didn't want to get stuck anywhere.

It was a regular day at Wonka's.

Because a regular day at Wonka's involved there being a small fort made of various kinds of gummies on one of the display tables. Bucky'd been by the store late last night and it hadn't been there. By this morning, it had just sort of appeared. He wasn't entirely sure, but he felt like some of the strategically placed gummy bears outside it were guarding the thing.

The HELP WANTED continued to hang in the window of the store, and Bucky was behind the counter, wondering whether he'd already been here too long when that whole gummy business seemed to make almost perfect sense to him.

Bucky was back on the island and back behind the counter at Wonka's, and there was a lot of candy on sale. A lot of candy. Candy canes and candy corn and all manner of boxes of chocolates all with great big tags saying 50% off!!! because as soon as Christmas was over everything had to go.

Mostly it made Bucky shake his head, wryly. Sure, there was a lot of wallet-friendly fare on offer right now, but even with half off the price, would anyone actually be able to afford the some of the priciest items on the shelves? Jesus, sometimes this place was really something else.

The HELP WANTED sign continued to hang in the window, although Bucky was betting he'd have more luck with it once the new semester started, and Wonka's was open.

Bucky hadn't been in Fandom for a while. Long story short, Steve'd been sick, and one of Bucky's sisters too, and he'd been needed back home in New York to see to various day-to-day things. And now everyone was doing better, and he was trying to reorient himself back to Fandom. And back to 2015.

And back to working at Wonka's.

"Aww, jeez."

The chocolate peacocks had arrived. Thankfully it was just a small sample shipment but aww, jeez. Bucky felt weird enough selling people the original chocolate birds (because who in their right mind wanted to have a chocolate egg turn into a chocolate bird in their mouth?) and he did not have high hopes that Mr. Wonka had yet completely solved the issues a peacock's tail feathers would cause in the same situation. But guess he'd shelve them anyway. Buyers beware.

The HELP WANTED sign continued to hang in the window, and Wonka's was open.

There seemed to be more people milling about the island than there usually were. Bucky had paid no mind, though, beyond smiling pleasantly at some of the new ladyfolk he'd seen on his walk to work.

He was a little more concerned with what he could have only decribed as a strange feeling of... anticipation, inside the store. He spent an embarrassingly long while pacing around the store, trying to find something that could have caused the feeling. Like something out of place.

But he found nothing.

So he hung the HELP WANTED sign on the window again (graduation had not been great to his employee roster), and tried to go about his business. Making sure the shelves were stocked and there was all the candy anyone could possibly want to be sold to any newcomers on the island.

She was most excited about that last one, right now.

You see, these weren't any ordinary everyday rocks. Oh no. These were special rocks. These rocks were discovered by Pinkie's sister, Maud, and were the super special secret ingredient in rock candy.

So, you know. Edible rocks.

She had a sign up in the window reading "SPECIAL ONE DAY ONLY: ROCK CANDY FRIENDSHIP NECKLACES!!!!" and a cauldron bubbling away to prepare the rock candy. All she needed to do now was get started.

Just as soon as she figured out if that sign needed any more exclamation points.

It was Isabelle's last shift at Wonka's.

It was probably going to be Isabelle's last shift at any job that paid actual money, ever. She didn't see herself having a future that involved standing behind counters serving people. The way she saw it, she'd be in the shadows, making sure other people could go on with their business, whether it was standing behind counters or in front of counters or anything else.

And that was fine with her.

Another thing she was fine with? Finding one last dirty note tucked in the side of the cash register. Perks of working the shift after your boyfriend had his.

"She had four legs that went all the way to the floor. I knew she was trouble the moment she came trotting through my door."

Pinkie had come in to work this morning to find a shipment of very dark chocolate bars, which had led her right down the rabbit hole into getting any candy with a face involved in an elaborate game of noir pretend.

Gummy was the detective. He was sat behind a desk constructed out of licorice gum drops and jelly beans, wearing a little fedora that Pinkie had come up with out of nowhere. There was a little pixie stick outline of a gummy bear on the counter, surrounded by artistic arcs of strawberry syrup. A pack of gum with a cheerful nineties zebra on it was a sobbing witness. By the end of the day, Pinkie would out herself as the culprit with a dramatic, megalomaniacal confession speech and go down in a dramatic jawbreaker fight.

Emma was getting used to finding weird candy and weirder things done with candy when she arrived at work, but this really took the cake.

It was a scale model of a chainsaw, done in gummies, liquorice, and some kind of candy glass, complete with marshmallow logs to cut into. Emma tugged on the 'cord', there mightn't have been a motor, but the chain moved while she was tugging. It was completely ridiculous.

Bucky was doing his level best to pretend last week hadn't happened. It was a lot to process. Possibly even too much. The store had apparently decided to help keep his mind off it, because when he got to shelving new stock, and opened a pack of Junior Mints, he found the pack full of hard fruit candy instead.

A short inspection later he came to the conclusion that all the day's stock had been mixed up. Nothing was in the right bags or packets. So now he was going to spend his day making sale signs that reflected that.

He'd taken some of the morning to stock up on what candy needed to be refilled before sitting down and wondering if he should put out the dark chocolate bacon bar or some Thai Tamarind Candy.

Then zipped out with a comically large bell, then zipped back in again. And zipped out one last time with a little "ring bell for service" sign, which she set next to the bell.

Flick's shifts at the candy store seemed to always be affected when the island went a little nuts. First, he'd been nearly forty and then he'd been a girl. This week, he was just himself which Flick was absolutely fine with. He did some shop clean up beforehand, making sure everything was stocked and nothing had melted due to the heat (hey, air conditioning was good but it was damn hot outside) before taking up his spot behind the counter.

After a minute or two, he grabbed some candy from the shelf behind him and had a sugar filled breakfast.

Pinkie was playing with a couple of pez dispensers.

"Oh Catherine," said the Bitter Woman pez dispenser. "I've never felt so alive as when I'm with you. But -- what will we tell the children?"

"That we're in love, Joan," said Wendy the Werewolf Stalker pez dispenser. "And that love is the most important thing in the world! . . . Sorry, Carl."

The Ratman pez dispenser that had just hopped into the scene gasped melodramatically, and turned to sob into one of the aliens from Galaxy Quest.

As for why Pinkie was wearing a mustache, well. She was Pinkie.

When Emma came into work today, there was a new shipment waiting to be unpacked.

She opened the exceptionally large package and snorted in a most ladylike fashion. "Good thing this didn't arrive during the weekend."
