The Gig, Tuesday [5/8]

Kris had made a big decision. Ever since she met that little girl a few months ago, she knew her future was with Junior. So she was going to head back to Fremont. She also had a family there, one she needed to work things out with. Plus, she had a feeling Wildfire needed her. It wasn't a hard decision, really.

"I'm going home soon," she said to Duke as she patted his mane. "Be good for everyone, okay?"

She was going to miss the horses here.

[Kris is really leaving the island, so this is sadly her last post for interaction.]

The Gig, Tuesday [6/1]

Kris was there like usual on Tuesdays. She fed the horses and groomed them, and then she finished up some of the other stable chores as well. Afterward, she took Smudge out on one of the trails. When she returned, she let all of the horses out into the paddock.

The Gig was open.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
After feeding and grooming the horses, Kris let them out into the paddock. They seemed a bit restless today, so she figured they needed the exercise. While they were out there, she cleaned the stable a bit. It was just another usual day at the Gig. Which was open.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
The day at The Gig started out uneventfully. Kris groomed the horses and fed them. Everything was normal. That is until she spotted the weird fuzzy creature in one of the stalls staring back at her.

"Hey there," she said to it, hoping that it wasn't dangerous. "You gonna hang around for awhile?"

The Alot stared back at her looking somewhat impressed. It liked the way she spoke to the horses.

It stayed for awhile, at least until Kris took one of the horses out on a trail.

The Gig, Tuesday [5/4]

Kris was in a thoughtful mood when she arrived at the stable. Watching the Kentucky Derby this weekend made her wistful. Betting on a horse race was not the same as actually racing in one.

It also made her miss Wildfire more. She was still seriously considering going back to Fremont to visit him. For now, she took care of the horses here.

The Gig was open.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Kris arrived at the stable, groomed and fed the horses, and then thought about which horse to take out on one of the trails this time. Kally seemed the most restless, so she was the winner today.

The Gig was open.

As people (hopefully) began to filter in, he stood on a chair to make his little announcement.

"I'd like to thank you all for coming. This isn't going to be a long speech, don't worry. For those that don't know me, I'm Captain John Price. I guess I'm in charge of this little club. Now you'll notice that the staff here aren't charging for the lanes tonight. That's because I worked out a deal. This club will be visiting various establishments around town each week, and we'll basically... show up and have fun. That's about all it's about, folks. Making friends, having a laugh, the simple things. Now you do still have to rent your own shoes, but that's just pittance, ain't it? So feel free to order some refreshment, get bowling, or stop by the arcade. And if you've got suggestions or anything for future meetings, I'll be over there."

He pointed towards the 'Big Game Hunter 3000' arcade machine.

"And that's all the speech you'll be getting. Have some fun already."

The stable seemed a lot quieter without the kids around. Kris couldn't help missing them. Even the horses seemed subdued. Or Kris was just imagining it. Whatever. She took one of them out on the trails, though. Horseback riding always made her feel a little better.

The Gig was open.

The portal to other realities was still there this evening. However the purpose of the portal has now changed.

Instead of bringing children to the island, it was now ready to bring them home to the realities where they belonged.

You can love or hate the portal for this but in either case it's time for the kids to go home.

[Up early for SP and Timezoney goodness! It's your goodbye post to send the kids home. I've got my kleenex ready so have at it!]

Dani considered herself lucky to escape having any rugrats of her own this weekend. That did not stop her from trying to capitalize on the situation. After making a few phone calls to her connections on the mainland, she took delivery on Monday morning of a group of small ponies.

With all the ponies groomed and tacked up, Dani put up a new sign outside.

Though she did not work on Saturdays, Kris was still up early. It was a nice day and she wanted to take advantage of it. The best way to do that, in her opinion, was to go horseback riding. She certainly was not expecting anything weird to occur on her way to the Gig. Well, nothing weirder than usual.

She was going to be mistaken.

[for a few more wee ones, but open to all]
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
When Kris arrived at the stable, she noticed that Duke seemed more restless that usual. After grooming and feeding the horses, she took him out on one of the trails. He was pretty damn fast today.

"You trying to be a race horse?" she said, chuckling slightly.

The Gig was open.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Kris fed and groomed the horses and then took one of them, Smudge, out onto one of the trails for a few minutes. It would have been longer if it wasn't raining. At least it wasn't creepy fog.

The Gig was open.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Kris really did not want the horses to be left unattended today. She also did not want to go out in that creepy fog, especially knowing it is dangerous. It was times like this she was glad to have a neighbor who can teleport. Not that she wasn't glad to have a hot neighbor. Drake, of course, was kind enough to bring her in today.

Once she was safely inside the stable with the horses, she left a quick voicemail message in response to one left for her.

[Drake modded with permission!]
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Kris was so glad that the other farm animals had finally gone home. She was not as glad about the fog. It was preventing her from taking one of the horses out onto the trails. Also, it was making the horses uneasy. That was probably not a good sign.

The Gig was open.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Kris fed the animals and groomed them. Afterward, she decided to take a break from cows and chickens by taking Duke out on one of the trails. At least Duke didn't try to kick her. She was almost certain the cows were doing that on purpose.

The Gig was open.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Kris did the usual stable chores, feeding the animals and grooming them. Being around the horses continued to make things normal again. Or as normal as this island could be. She didn't even mind the chickens wandering around.

The Gig was open.

Dani had reached an uneasy truce with the chickens. While she was working in the office, one of the chickens was sitting on her lap. Every so often, she would grumble, "This wasn't in my business plan." That didn't mean she was about to kick the chicken out of her lap.

Anyone entering the barn might have been surprised to see the other chicken was perched on Duke's back, but like Dani, he wasn't doing anything to get rid of it.

The Gig was open!

Tino was again alone. While Clark had seen on his calendar that he was meant to open the bar tonight, Superman had other things to take care of.

Things like flying high into the atmosphere to float above the clouds and wish he couldn't hear every infinitesimal sound uttered by the people of this planet. His life was so much harder than yours, really. And later, after returning from that bare moment of quiet to save the day yet again, maybe he'd go stalk Lois.

Tino didn't care. He got a lot more action without help on these nights.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Once Kris got the horses out to the paddock, she tried to get the cows to move, too. They were being too stubborn.

She left them alone and went to feed the llama instead. Of course, that's when the cows started moving.

"Brats," she grumbled.

The Gig was open.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Kris nearly stepped on the chickens when she arrived today. Once she got them back into their temporary pen, she decided it was a good day to take one of the horses, Kally, out on the trail.

She kinda wished she was in the Bahamas right now. If only to get away from the chickens for a little while.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Kris felt like she was arriving in FarmVille. There were so many farm animals. The chickens, at least, had not gotten out of the pen this time. She did feel like the llama was staring at her, though. She was just relieved she didn't have to harvest any trees.

The Gig was open.

Kris did the usual stable chores like grooming and feeding the horses. Afterward, she took Smudge out on one of the trails because he was more restless than usual. It was nice to be able to take one of them out finally.

Kris arrived and got the horses taken care of by feeding and grooming them as usual. She then let them out into the paddock. She'd take one of them out onto a trail, but they seemed to still be snow covered. Next time.

The Gig was open.

Kris thought about taking one of the horses out on a trail after feeding and grooming them. Instead, she just let them out in the paddock for some exercise. Besides, it seemed she had to clean the stable today.

Considering she'd gotten roped into 3MD without expecting it, Jaina was in a fairly decent mood when she took over her usual shift tonight. She wasn't looking forward to the cleanup that was probably going to happen later, and would be happy not experiencing further trauma, but for now, okay mood.

The two drinks earlier had helped there.

[Your regularly scheduled Caritas post! Feel free to keep pinging in the 3MD post or mod yourselves as still being around now, but you get a fresh post for after-event stuff.]

Kris thought about taking Duke out on one of the trails today. That was until she realized there was rain of vanilla. She thought it was best to keep the horses in the stable today, especially since they had been groomed already. She was sure she would never get used to random rain of food product.

The Gig was open.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
It was a quiet day at the Gig, and Kris didn't mind that one bit. After feeding and grooming the horses, she considered taking one of them out on one of the trails. She still wished it was Wildfire she could take out there, of course. At least she'd get to watch him race soon.

During the night, Fandom had been covered in a blanket of fresh snow that was just thick enough to turn everything crisp and white. With cream-colored decorations and twinkling lights, the Student Council had aimed for a winter wonderland kind of theme, and the snow simply added to the effect. Thankfully, the day was turning out to be warmer, so those who were going to be outside all day wouldn't freeze. Once the finishing touches were done, the carnival was open for business.

Kris was there to make sure the horses were taken care of. As they were out in the paddock getting their exercise, she couldn't help thinking about Wildfire again. She was really thinking about going back to Fremont for a few days to visit him just to see if he was okay.

She shrugged that off quickly, though, and just focused on the horses here.

The Gig was open.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
It was an ordinary day at The Gig. Except for the adorable creature Kris found in one of the empty stalls. It was nothing she had ever seen before, but it was too cute to send away. Even the horses didn't feel the need to scare it away. It even seemed like Kally was befriending the creature. That only added to the cuteness of it all.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
After spending the weekend hidden in her apartment avoiding the snow, Kris was glad to be back at the stable with the horses. They seemed happy to see her, too. Or maybe they were just happy someone was there to feed them.

She let them out for some exercise, though only for a little while. She'd rather be inside where it was warm.

The Gig was open.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Kris was there for her Friday shift. After grooming the horses and feeding them, she brought them out to the paddock. They may have gotten a few extra apple slices.

[lame post is lame. mostly because I am working on a paper. blah]
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Once Kris arrived at the Gig, she immediately headed over to the stalls to feed and groom the horses. They all seemed restless today, so she took them out to the paddock. She still was not used to the colder weather, but the horses did not seem to care about that. They were content to be outside for a little while.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
When the horses were out in the paddock today, she noticed that Duke seemed a bit more restless than the others. She figured he needed more exercise today, so she decided to take him out for a ride. Only he was being stubborn and staying right where he was.

"You can do this," Kris said soothingly to the horse. She was reminded a bit of Wildfire's stubbornness.

After awhile, though, Duke was off and running. She hadn't been riding horses legally since she was at Raintree months ago. It was good to do so again.

The Gig was open.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Between all the parties over Christmas, and then New Year's, he'd reached some point of supersaturation so that he was pretty sure he was still drunk from two days ago. Which was fine by him.

Even if it made Tino sigh because he knew he'd be the only one of any real use tonight.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Kris was really grateful for this job, but she still couldn't help thinking about her old job at Raintree. She was still saddened by the news Dani had told her of the changes made there since she was gone. She was also very much thinking about Dani's offer to visit Wildfire somehow. It would be good to see him. Now she was eying one of the empty stalls, wondering what it would be like if he was there. Yeah, she really missed him.

She was a little distracted today, but The Gig was still open.
[identity profile] whos-got-spirit.livejournal.com
Tino was not in a good mood when Adrian got in to work today, and Adrian knew exactly why.

"No one was going to believe you were the boss here for long," Adrian pointed out as he made himself a drink.

Tino just glared and walked off to the back room. Ooh, Adrian might be on his own today.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Kris thought it was strange that there were several fruitcakes in the stable. She thought it was even more strange that they seemed to want to be eaten. They were actually kind of pushy. At least they were until one of the horses scared them off.

"Thank you," Kris said appreciatively to Duke, patting his mane. "You're getting extra carrots."

She figured the horses would appreciate that she wasn't feeding them fruitcake.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Kris didn't mind taking a second shift at the Gig. It just meant she could be around the horses more. That was not a problem for her. The snow angel invasion was weird, though. She had been told to be on the lookout for this kind of thing in this town. That gave her hope that she wasn't just going a wee bit crazy.
[identity profile] exconnextdoor.livejournal.com
Today was Kris's first official day working at the Gig. Though it wasn't the same as racing horses, she was grateful for the steady paycheck and still a little surprised Dani offered. Already, Kris knew the names of all the horses. She was really beginning to think she could make a new start here.

Now, if only she could get Feliz Navidad out of her head...
[identity profile] eternalstud.livejournal.com
Damon wasn't really liking this whole extra work thing he's been doing lately but it honestly wasn't like he had anything better to do around here. He knew better than to ask for more excitement. Nobody wanted a repeat of last weekend. No, no, he'll be content with this for now, thank you.
[identity profile] divinesurfchick.livejournal.com
It was here! Party night! And Aphrodite was there to greet all her guests at the door of the banquet room.

The party was actually taking place in two rooms, with the buffet dinner in the smaller one and dancing in the larger. Just inside the door of the larger room was the twelve-foot tree, with twinkly crystal lights, but no decoration. This was where people were free to place their own ornament on the tree, showing what holiday they were celebrating.

Also in the dancing room were several tapestries, with the names of several holidays in golden thread, and some symbol of the celebration. These ranged from a tree for Solstice, a menorah for Hanukkah, a nativity scene for Christmas, and several others.

The buffet was grand, with turkey, ham, and roasted lamb with all the trimmings. Near the bar was an actual champagne fountain, with real champagne flowing over the glasses for patrons to fill their own.

The food was ready to be served, the band was warming up for the dancers, and the goddess of love was at the door to welcome you!

(ooc: Party post, up early for SP. Everyone is welcome, and don't forget to bring your holiday ornament! Wait for the OCD is up!)

It was a cold day, but Dani was certain she'd warm up once she started carrying hay bales around the barn. Coffee from the Perk would help in the meantime.

She took off her heavy jacket and left it in the office, then grabbed a pitchfork on her way to the stalls, thinking she'd start mucking out the unoccupied ones first. However, there was a surprise waiting for Dani in the first stall...

Kris Furillo had been a bit of a nomad for the past six months. That's what happened when one was kicked out by their sort of adoptive family. Not that Kris blamed them. She screwed up royally and lost the only family she had known. The only family that made her feel welcome.

So she spent the past few months slowly moving eastward. )

[Just establishing Kris's arrival, since it's late. But she will be getting out later!]
