The people in charge now knew where the kidnapped people were being kept. A party had gathered and they were on their way to the depths of the Underworld to bring their people back, no matter what stood in their way.

Town Hall, All Day

Town Hall was still effectively the center of command as those in charge waited for the away teams to return, and continued to form contingency plans for dealing with Hades. As one of the few safe places in town, no one was being sent away if they wanted to stay, as long as they didn't get in the way.

[OCD is up! Raiding and finale teams, your volunteering spots are in here.]

The gumdrops were a nice bonus since Katara had forgotten to grab breakfast on her way down to the beach, but they weren't going to stop her from proving once and for all that she could kick a certain firebender's butt.  The lesson would be good for him.  At least he wouldn't be moping about not being able to get off the island while he was moping about getting his butt kicked.

She stood at the very edge of the water, looking out over the ocean and reaching to feel the chi of the water as the waves rolled up to just wet her feet then went back out to sea.  If nothing else, this island moving idea was possibly the neatest thing ever just to be able to feel all the different energies of the oceans.

[OOC:  Open.  As a beach is.]

It was her last patrol in Fandom. After that it was over the causeway and then... whatever came next. She'd sent out a *handwavey* e-mail and left notes for various people to let them know if they wanted to see her off, that this would be the place for it.

Sitting on a gravestone, Mel took one last look around. Could someone really feel sentimental about a graveyard?

[Goodbye post for Mel. If you think you got notification then you did. Will be subject to bouts of AFK-ness throughout the day.]

Not far from where the Skeleton Tea had been held earlier in the day, there was a tent that had been erected, with thiny, gauzy material and bone-like poles. Not dirty. The lights were soft as the evening grew darker, casting a welcoming, yet vaguely spooky illumination on the proceedings.

The proceedings of PROM.

One side of the tent was open, backing against a grove of trees; there were a few lights among them, but for the most part they offered shadowy nooks for anyone who wished to be a bit apart from the main action. The rest of the tent was enclosed, save for the entrance, and the same skeletons who'd worked the Tea earlier were at the refreshments table, ready and willing to serve any students or chaperones who approached. At one end of the table was the ballot box for prom court voting.

The music was just getting started, and the dance floor was yet to fill up, but regardless, Fandom High Prom 2008 was underway!

[Wait for OCD is up! Have fun, everyone!]

Katara had snuck out of her room very, very early.  Before the sun came up even, it was so early.  She liked the moon better than the sun anyway.  The sun was boring and all burny.

It felt like a long, long walk down to the town, but Katara was Water Tribe and there wasn't even any snow so she wasn't going to complain a bit.  She wasn't whiny like the Fire Nation.   Besides in town there was the bakery.  And Katara had money in her pocket that she'd been saving a long, long time for this.  Now if only she could decide what she wanted.

Across the town, the school, and the dorms, fliers had been put up to inform everyone of a town meeting taking place tonight (with a bold, capitalized note at the bottom warning everyone to be careful getting to the town hall). Zoe waited for as many people as possible to arrive and get settled before she got up and addressed the crowd.

"Thank you all for coming on such short notice tonight," she said. "We wanted to get everyone together to share some new information that was found today. Our researchers have found some possible evidence concerning the angels, and some of the people who have gone missing." She picked up the notes she'd been given, and read what the researchers had found.

"As much as I don't want to do this, I need to ask for volunteers," she continued. "We need people to go and get this information, or to talk to these folks, so we can figure out how to stop the angels, and get everyone back. I won't turn away students who want to help, but you're going to be sent with adults to make sure all of you come back in one piece. If you want to stay here, that's perfectly fine. I want to remind all of you that there are safehouses being set up throughout town, to make sure that no one has to be alone right now. Travel in numbers, and always look around you. If you do that, you'll stay safe. I'll be here to answer any questions, and to take the names of those who want to volunteer. The floor is open for anyone who has something else they'd like to say."

[OCD is up! If you're on one of the away teams, you can handwave coming to the meeting and volunteering, if you want.]

Robin still kind of had no idea how she'd wound up doing this, but it was funny and she could laugh and drink and just enjoy her post-Valentine's glow behind the bar while everyone else suffered.

And in the meanwhile, she set out a pretty little sign.

Three Minute Dates @ Caritas
Hosted by Robin Scherbatsky
Presented by loneliness and desperation*
* beer goggles recommended/necessary in some cases

That done, she wandered by to the stage to take the mic. "So, hi. You know how sometimes you're at a bar, and you just don't know how to talk to those pretty people you're eyeing? Or, you know, you want to know what the deal is with that creepy guy in the corner who won't stop staring? Well, tonight, we're taking all that guesswork out of it! Welcome to Three Minute Dates! I'm your hostess and deeply amused bartender, Robin Scherbatsky."

"So here's how it goes -- when I call your name plus someone else's, it'll be time for you to find that other person and either lemon law them or find your way to true love...slash a good one night stand! Or a bad one. It's part of the fun! And then lather, rinse and repeat for four more times, because yes, boys and girls, you're doing this five times."

[OOC: Three minutes equals ten comments for our purposes. That's five comments per person. Try your very best to get it wrapped up in that time. You do NOT have to do these in chronological order. Do them as people are available. Just try not to Joss yourself.

Remember, if you're violent, you'll be teleported out of the club and will have to make your way back. If you can't get through all of your dates today, you can sp, don't worry!

Yesterday's weather had worried Willow, but according to the weather report Saturday was warmer and so far snow-free.

Willow got to the Park early so she could set up. She cleared a space for dancing, set up music and some food that she'd brought along, then waited for others to show up.

[ooc: OCD a-coming Up! All are welcome. 'tis very informal in nature. And this only takes up a small part of the Park, so plenty of room for others to do Parky things without being crowded.]

After leaving Teddy at the Perk, Katara made her way along the beach thoughtfully.  She couldn't come back to this island after so long without visiting it and remembering the countless hours she'd spent perfecting her waterbending on it.  The ocean felt the same.  Warmer than at home, but still right.

She reached into her pocket to take out a piece of the chocolate she'd made sure to find and savored the flavour, wondering again if it were possible to import to home.

[OOC:  Open! Yay beach!]

The memorial service was held on the flat hilltop overlooking the ocean, and at its edge rested an old-fashioned wooden boat, worn and weathered. There were chairs for those still too weak to stand and four torches, burning steadily, set in the ground at the four cardinal points. The day was bright and clear, a light breeze blowing out to sea, but despite that, the torches never flickered.

Karal, dressed in formal robes of black and gold, stood in front of the boat, waiting patiently while people arrived.

When everyone had settled, he stepped forward and began to speak. )

[ooc: Word of the service was handwavily passed by word of mouth, and by way of announcement and on the radio. Please wait for OCD is up!]

Katara was almost completely unconscious in a cot but the Town Hall's makeshift hospital was ticking over like a well-oiled machine.  Even as volunteers and doctors grew more and more tired, their dedication still won out as each patient was tended to carefully.

[OOC:  And this is the last hospilinic post!  The researchers are very close to a cure which will be administered over the course of the evening (IG and OOC).  Please do be sure to ping in your sickies so they can get cured!]

Christian hated feeling this helpless. The number of patients were growing, and nothing was relieving their symptoms. Even the kids with their magic mumbo jumbo could only bring fevers down for a short time.

He didn't want to admit defeat, but things were not looking good.

Wilson had gotten a briefing from Troy before coming in today and had already shut down his OMGWTFPlllllaaaggggguuuuueee response in favor of being able to actually function as a doctor.

Slipping a mask over his mouth almost immediately, he grabbed up charts and began to walk through the cots, getting an update on everyone's status. Next up would be making sure the volunteers were organized and that people who were sitting bedside vigil were taking care of themselves and not starting to show symptoms

[ooc: OCDS will be coming presently are up, you may now continue to enjoy your plague.]

Wyatt had been prepared for the sight of several flu victims, but he didn't expect it to be this bad. He counted at least 15 beds, and who knew if the people tending to them would get sick as well. He conferred briefly with Dr. Troy to find out what procedures they had in place, grabbed a mask, and got to work.

Christian came in early to the clinic and found his patients had doubled overnight and were starting to be stacked up like cordwood in the exam rooms. He definitely was going to have to make use of town hall. After a few handwavey phone calls to get things officially set up, he and the nurses transfered the patients over to the makeshift hospital. Fortunately, town hall was almost directly behind the clinic, so it was a short trip. Cots were obtained and set up around the large room in anticipation of more patients.

The mayor didn't seem to be around, but Christian left handwavey messages for Principle Washburn and Sheriff Mustang about the situation. They were definitely going to have to establish a quarantine. This was spreading like wildfire. He would insist that anyone tending to the patients was going to have to wear masks and gloves.

[ooc: Patients modded without permission, because they are in no condition to resist, muhahaha. Volunteers, feel free to tend to patients as they ping in. OCD coming has arrived!

A girl and a horse walked into an ice cream shop.

Molly, after waking up again and making a few phone calls, had pulled on a jacket, shoes and her oldest hat with the dangley pompoms and gone to get Trenor so that they could feel sorry for themselves together. Not that Trenor knew he needed to feel sorry for himself for being left behind, Molly just wanted to keep the horse in sight so that no one could come get him without her knowing about it.

She held onto Trenor's lead loosely as she studied the board, completely oblivious to anyone who might be staring at them. "What do you think, Trenor? Watermelon sorbet for you? I'm going to work my way down the menu, but I'm afraid you're stuck with the fruits. I guess we'll see what you like."

The park had been set up with several booths and tents for vendors for the first, um, semi-annual Monthly Market. The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

This Homecoming event, whatever it was, was certainly moving the formalwear. Which meant people were buying a lot of formalwear, which was, conveniently enough, both expensive and chic. Therefore, Homecoming was fine by Tink.

She even came in on a day when the shop should be closed. Wasn't that ever so kind of her?

Tink wondered briefly if the roommate that she wasn't talking to was going to be chaperoning this Homecoming event. This could be interesting.

In the meantime? Pixie Dust was open.

A series of tents (in various sizes) and covered walkways had sprung up all over the park by midday. Sometimes, it was just bad for Chad to experience some things. Class today had made him a little...paranoid might actually be the best word for it. He worried, terribly, for the safety of the kittens when he came into work today because, while there was no chance of a graham cracker river here, there were all those walls. So he kept the cats herded up behind the counter which they didn't like very well, but, sometimes, when you had to protect someone, you had to stay strong on these things.

Not even playing their favourite mix was helping them to be quiet, but Chad was not letting them out of his sight.

With his classes over for the week, Lee decided that he wanted out of the dorms. Once he was awake enough, he wandered his way down to the beach slowly, taking time to get his bearings, examine the area for quick exits and mentally map the town in his head.

It might be useful.

Once he'd arrived at the beach, he took a seat in the sand, far enough away from the water that he wouldn't get wet but close enough to hear the noise from the waves. The book he'd shoved in the back pocket of his shorts came out and he opened it up, rifling through the well worn pages.

Now, just to hope that it didn't rain. Or maybe he wanted it to rain. Who knows.

Katara had been at the beach all morning enjoying the effects of the full moon on the tides and her bending.  Which meant she was slightly damp and more than a little salty when she pushed open the door of the post office.

Apparently this worked out well for her as Not Tiddles wasn't a fan of dampness.

So Katara set up the office for the day unhindered by a ferocious cat attacking her legs.
[identity profile] southernbender.livejournal.com
Katara had a new toy.  A laser pointer.

And Not Tiddles had a new game as he chased it all over the post office.

They both were happy, and Katara noticeably unscratched
[identity profile] southernbender.livejournal.com

Katara was perched on top of the counter in the post office with a fishing rod in her hand.  With any luck, she could keep Not Tiddles distracted by the furry mousey thing on the end of the line.  A distracted Not Tiddles meant a happy Katara and - well, it wasn't like she could tell, but she thought it meant a happy Gladys too.

Karal was early, but he wanted to ensure he did not miss the portal. He had handwavily left messages for the others, and another note for Aravis, and now he was waiting, a small bag and a largish Firecat at his feet.

:I don't know about this portal thing: Altra said doubtfully. :We could just Jump.:

"All of us?" he asked, glancing down. "You would be exhausted and I would be ill."

:Jumping's safer.:

"Molly took a portal, and she was safe," he paused, struck by a sudden thought, "Altra, do you even know where we are going?"

:Details,: he said airily. :I could figure it out.:

"Of course you could."

Drax looked miserable.

That probably had something to do with the fact that he was standing under a banner that said "Fandom Chocolate Festival."

Or something to do with the fact that he was in the park, surrounded by chocolate sculptures.

Or the fact that there were weetiny chocolate bunnies scampering around.

More than likely, it was the fact that his regular leather pants needed to be washed and the only other clothes he could find were a pair of lederhosen that the previous dean left behind in the garage at 33 Apocalypse.

[OOC: Please don't ask me to explain my brain. There's chocolate all over the park. You can get bars of it or just take it from the sculptures and stuff.

Weather is modded so that we will not have isolated thunderstorms around the park, but the upper 90 degree weather will continue, which spells doom for the chocolate. Even the bunnies. Mwahaha. No, seriously, don't ask me about my brain.]

Katara had a plan for getting into the post office without attracting Not Tiddles' attention.

Or rather a plan to distract the demon cat.  That might have been more accurate.

She poked her head in the door and threw a glittery pompon right passed Not Tiddles face.

The cat immediately jumped up and raced after it in a way most unbecoming to its dignity.

Katara grinned and entered the post office properly.

This day was working out well.

The streets of Fandom had seen better days. While some of the dinosaurs slept, the scavengers and pack hunters had spent the night chasing whatever was in the street and harassing residents who were safely tucked away in barricaded buildings.

The sun rose over the island, revealing that some of the larger dinosaurs had moved on or had settled down. Some, however, particularly the smaller dinosaurs, were still on the rampage.

Just another lazy Sunday in Fandom.

[If you're still up for a fight, just ping in with where you are in town in the subject line and a dino will come find you. As always, please be patient as someone will get to you ASAP. There will be research going on the library if that's more your thing.]

It had been a really pretty morning and Katara had drawn out her time at the beach as much as possible before scrambling to get to the post office mostly on time.

Once she was there, she fiddled, stacking magazines and pretending she was sorting mail before she moved onto important tasks like classifying the paper clips by size and trying to make paper clip strings for Not Tiddles to chase across the floor.

That had only lasted a few minutes before Not Tiddles decided that Katara's hands were more fun to chase than the paper clips.  So Katara found herself up on the counter away from the cat and trying to read one of the many magazines the post office seemed to accumulate.

After bullying Molly into getting up and getting dressed, the three girls walked down to town to enjoy the weather and find themselves mass quantities of ice cream.  Because it was, as Dawn said, an ancient Earth tradition.
