And thus began Parents' Weekend. It was an overcast day but the rain had long since tapered off. Just in case, tents had been erected all around the park to protect from the potential for wet stuff. No one needed their guest showing up cranky because they'd been rained on.

There were tables and tables of all sorts of food and drinks. There was something for everyone. The Student Council had spared no expense. Blue and gold tables and chairs were also spread out underneath the tents, giving guests and islanders a place to sit down and chat or sit down and eat or something to hide under.

A registration table stood near the front of the setup where guests could check in and get a nametag. A banner adorned the edges of the tents proclaiming:

WELCOME TO PARENTS' WEEKEND 2010

If you asked Hinata why she was so tired today, she wouldn’t have really been able to give an coherent answer—she’d slept fine, she didn’t have any pressing anxieties on her—and so it was a drowsy Hinata who was content to not ponder the mystery of her exhaustion and just read.

After, of course, setting up tea and putting out cookies.

Sugar and hot tea would surely help her stay awake, right?

After plotting and planning, all their wicked ideas were about to come to fruition. A long stretch of beach had been roped off, and white party lights and tiki torches provided the illumination for Sookie's birthday party. Orchids and other exotic flowers covered the tables, and each girl was presented with a lei or flower crown upon arrival. A pair of very attractive NPC bartenders were staffing the two open bars, and at the birthday girl's private table, there was a cake.

This is what happened when people left planning up to Emma, Karla, and poor, wide-eyed Bobby.

At least Bobby hadn't been expected to handle things like flowers or decorations. He was thankful for that. Food, though. Food was easy. There was a wide selection of moddable dishes from just about every establishment on the island. Okay, so he'd gone a little overboard. And maybe off-theme since some of the dishes were decidedly non-Tiki-Party-ish, but his heart was in the right place.

The dress code that had been written on the invitations was being enforced; swimsuits, or dress-casual summer wear, and everyone had to take a turn acting as Cabana Boy (or Girl) to the Guest of Honor.

Of course, Bobby was on hand to make sure that nobody took too long of a turn, because, hey. Girlfriend. His prerogative. Something like that.

Though if people wanted to play Cabana Boy/Girl for other party goers, it's doubtful anyone would complain.

Jonas was up early. That in itself wasn't a surprise since he didn't tend to sleep in but being in town already was a bit off his routine. He'd been bored and rather restless and an early morning walk turned into a stop at the Perk to get something to drink and sit at one of the small tables near the window.

The weather had cooled significantly and Jonas found himself mesmerized by the occasional sprinkles and dark clouds outside. It was always quiet in the morning. It seemed like everything was waiting for a slight nudge to finally wake up and go on about their days.

Jonas would have been fine if it just stayed on the precipice of things a little while longer. It was nice.

[Open sure, if anyone's around this early!]

As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!

The staff at Fast Eddie's wasn't exactly thrilled to be hosting a student's birthday party tonight. Kids at birthday parties tended to hang decorations everywhere, order either too much cheap beer or none at all, and generally make a mess. The were too cool for that: They worked at a pool hall, not a Chuck E Cheese's.

Sure enough, when Tara came in to set up, she promptly began taping crepe paper and balloons in bright primary colors to everything as the staff watched with annoyed but tolerant looks on their faces.

Tara ignored their expressions. She needed Kennedy's birthday party to be nice. And, once the decorations were up, she was certain it would be. She just needed to wait for everyone else to get there.

[OOC: OCD in a sec up, I say we party. Grumpy staff lovingly stolen from Alex Karev's birthday party.]

Didi was back in the shop today, and fussing with the end-of-aisle displays in an effort to get them just so.

Her personal taste in just so lead to some overcrowded displays, full of Disney artifacts, chocolate, and floppy hats, but at least she was keeping herself busy and happy.

Squishy flavors: White Chocolate Macademia, Snickerdoodle (Not People), Snickerdoodle (People).

[OOC: OCD got scared off by that last Squishy flavor, but it is an open shop!]

The weather was great--- and no other random horses showed up on the way there for Dinah, at least. There was a grill for burgers and brats and some skewers of meat, a big cooler full of drinks, and a couple bags of chips. Plus a cake. Big cake.

Time to get ready for Karla's (mostly!) Sweet Sixteen Surprise Party.

Now was the winter of their discontent... The last night of Richard III was starting very soon. Still no sign of their errant Director, but Tony seemed to have everything well in hand. Sophie had counted up receipts from Tuesday, and they were doing quite well. The students had certainly given it their all on Tuesday night.

And Geoffrey may have cast them, encouraged them, and directed them, but everyone in the theater tonight had their own reasons for wanting this last evening of the play to go well.

"Thirty minutes, everyone. Our Stage Manager says places in thirty."

It'd been another quiet week for Jonas. He found himself missing Beka but, after finding out that she'd turned into a small dog (again), he found himself not worrying anymore. Missing, yes, but she was safe so he could rest easy. Jonas took that as a sort of indicator that he needed to stop being so reclusive. His excuse was gone so he forced himself out.

Now that his classes for the week had been completed, taking a trip into town and stopping at the Perk seemed like a good start. The people behind the counter were patient with him when he asked them to explain nearly half their selection and eventually talked him into something that would probably make his heart stop. Jonas was pretty certain he heard them giggling when he took his order back toward a table.

Jonas took up a place in the corner, a book open on the table as he picked at the piece of cake idly.

Beka was a little late when she made it to the gym, but Emma was back to being human and that put her in a good enough mood. Pounce had accompanied her today as the room had been getting too busy for his nap. Not that it changed his plans as he made straight for the pile of mats from which he had a decent view of the gym.

"You could keep me company," Beka told him.

I am keeping you company, he reasoned and she rolled her eyes at him.

"It doesn't count if you've got your eyes closed."

But cats were cats and Pounce was The Cat, so he'd be sleeping while Beka worked.

"You should do something about your hands."

Beka'd been resetting the weights on one of the machines when Jessi decided she was bored. "There's naught wrong with my hands," Beka replied, fastening the bolt.

"Are you serious? If I'd had calluses like that, I'd die of shame!" Jessi flicked her hair, obviously she was trying to prove sommat.

"Tis normal to have hands like mine when you work," Beka replied with a frown. Why did she feel she had to defend herself about sommat so simple. "Tis from the baton, all Dogs had hands like these. What does it matter?"

"It's... embarrassing," Jessi clearly thought Beka's cracked her skull. "I don't know any cheerleaders who get calluses from their twirling batons! You should take better care, you'll harm the gym's image."

Beka turned sharply to face Jessi, a scowl on her face and twas enough to make Jessi take a step back. "Working hard isn't embarrassing. I'm not a cheerleader." Though she didn't know what that was. "I'm a guard." At the confused look on Jessi's face, she quickly clarified. "A police officer."

The response wasn't one she'd expected as Jessi's eyes widened further and she quickly moved to the other side of the bench. "You are very butch. I wasn't trying to come on to you, I swear."

"What?"

"I need to go now..." And Jessi darted off. She'd mayhap not moved this fast since the last time there was a sale on pink spandex at Turtle's.

It was a new day and there was no better way to start a new day than with the continuation of the carnival. There was still snow coating the ground but the atmosphere was as lively as ever. With cream-colored decorations and twinkling lights, the Student Council had aimed for a winter wonderland kind of theme, and the snow simply added to the effect. Thankfully, the day was turning out to be warmer, so those who were going to be outside all day wouldn't freeze. Once the finishing touches were done, the carnival was open for business.

She better not be here, Pounce warned as they entered the gym. Mayhap he'd better not said that as the words were barely spoken or someone in pink spandex dashed forward.

"Awwwwww! You brought the kitteh again!" Jessi squealed and leaned down to pick up Pounce.

Pounce instantly moved Beka's other side. Get her away from me!

"He brought himself," Beka said, shaking her head. "I think you'd better leave him be. He's easily scared."

"But I'm not scary! Kitties love me! Just watch," Jessi babbled, already following Pounce to attempt to pick him up.

Beka was rather impressed as Pounce hissed, his back up and his teeth flashing. And then he ran off towards the lockers.

"Awwww, don't worry. I'll go get him," Jessi bounced after the cat.

A long time later, Jessi returned to tell her that she couldn't find Pounce, but she'd not give up and she'd recover the pretty kitty soon. Beka decided it'd be better for everyone not to tell Jessi that Pounce had probably used magic to get back to the dorms. It'd be a much quieter shift.

It was here! Party night! And Aphrodite was there to greet all her guests at the door of the banquet room.

The party was actually taking place in two rooms, with the buffet dinner in the smaller one and dancing in the larger. Just inside the door of the larger room was the twelve-foot tree, with twinkly crystal lights, but no decoration. This was where people were free to place their own ornament on the tree, showing what holiday they were celebrating.

Also in the dancing room were several tapestries, with the names of several holidays in golden thread, and some symbol of the celebration. These ranged from a tree for Solstice, a menorah for Hanukkah, a nativity scene for Christmas, and several others.

The buffet was grand, with turkey, ham, and roasted lamb with all the trimmings. Near the bar was an actual champagne fountain, with real champagne flowing over the glasses for patrons to fill their own.

The food was ready to be served, the band was warming up for the dancers, and the goddess of love was at the door to welcome you!

(ooc: Party post, up early for SP. Everyone is welcome, and don't forget to bring your holiday ornament! Wait for the OCD is up!)

Mayhap they were cracked to go out for ice cream in this weather, but they'd spoken of it for weeks now. Besides, the ice cream would still taste good even if Beka was relieved Emma had made her buy a winter coat. Even if it'd probably be colder in Corus by now, at least it wasn't raining. It was rather clear, which made the snow stuck to the windows all the more stranger.

"I've not seen snow make patterns like these afore," she told Jonas as they entered the ice cream parlor. Twas warmer inside, but there wasn't anyone else in except for the server behind the counter. Most folk didn't go eat ice cream in this weather, it seemed.

[For the boy with her, but Chilly boulder is open of course. If you're cracked enough to want ice cream in December.]

So far, so good. Nothing had exploded, no one was a beaver, and there was not a single ice rink to be seen. Maple syrup was absent, was any other unfortunate substance. No one tasted like anything specific--

This might in fact be a production without something going wrong, though Geoffrey wouldn't even quite think the thought for fear of jinxing it.

...little did he know, of course.

After getting back her normal form, Kate had promised herself she’d devote the weekend to human pleasures.

Said ’human pleasures’ included – among other things – walking into town by herself, listening to music on her iPod and smoking as she walked.

She had a destination and a goal, of course. She was in pursuit of one of the most divine pleasures Fandom could offer her at the moment: the Perk’s best hot chocolate with a generous helping of whipped cream.

Hot chocolate acquired, there was a very pleased and human-looking Kate sitting at her usual table. Had she still been able to purr, she would have.

Town Hall was all decked out in harvest theme with this being so close to Halloween and all. Pumpkins and squash and random corn! The corn, people! Think of the corn! But please, for the love of all that is holy, don't allow your children near it. Especially not the creepy gingers.

There was plenty of food and punch--not yet spiked--set to the side of the spacious room. Which left plenty of space for the general mulling about that kids were so fond of these days. Or dancing. And even the occasional dark bits in which to lurk. Have a fun homecoming, kiiiiids and remember to vote!

Even with all the food at the brunch, Gabriel had been holding back because he knew he was going to get ice cream later. And, true to his word, Jonas, with Gabriel in tow, had arrived at Chilly Boulder to meet up with Beka for said ice cream adventure.

Jonas couldn't even keep a grip on Gabe's hand when they went inside, just watching his little brother shoot off towards the counter and bouncing around like a jumping bean. Jonas made sure to hold the door for Beka so she wouldn't get left behind in Gabe's glee.

Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.

Being a cove was strange, but in the end she'd decided she'd rather be a cove for the day than turn into an animal. Which according to Lady Aeryn was a possibility. She found herself touching the side of her face every so often, wondering if she'd changed back yet. She'd feel it if she did, right?

Stop fretting. It'll be fine, Pounce assured her.

Twas easy for him to say. He was still a male cat. A cheerful one at that.

At least the pigeons didn't care how she looked, they were glad to pick up the crumbs Beka tossed them.

As weeks went, this one had been fairly quiet. Jonas didn't know if that meant things were leveling out or if it was merely calm before more storms. Whatever it was, he was trying not to dwell on it. He'd understood most of his classes this week and felt a little more comfortable in exploring the island proper.

That would be why today found him at the beach. At first, he'd almost been frightened of the looking expanse before him. The water was moving, so unlike what he'd seen in pictures, and everything was just so much more vibrant than he'd imagined. The first few hesitant steps onto the squishy sand almost sent him stumbling but he regained his balance and got the hang of the new surface quickly.

There was a chill in the air so Jonas didn't dare attempt swimming but he did take off his shoes and press his feet into the sand, letting the cool grains slide over his toes and feet. It was rough, coarse, and the only thing he could relate it to was gravel and even that didn't seem right.

Crouching and reaching for a handful, he let it slide through the fingers of one hand while getting close enough to the water that he could put his other hand down and feel the waves just touch the tips.

Jonas didn't really know if he'd be leaving anytime soon.

[the beach is an open place!]
