The weather was still behaving itself, so the sun was beaming down brightly (which might not be appreciated by those who overindulged last night), the humidity wasn't unbearable, and the mosquitoes were keeping to themselves.

Beneath a generously be-glittered banner that read "20th ANNIVERSARY REUNION!" was a veritable feast of breakfast-y foods on tables that looked dangerously close to toppling under the weight.

There were pastries, various egg dishes, and yogurt parfaits in mason jars (because Pinterest might have died ten years ago but mason jars were forever). There was more coffee than should probably be legal.

Come out! Tend to your hangovers! Explain any walks of shame!

And, if you were a father, come get your complimentary glass of sparkling wine or Bloody Mary. The administration figured you deserved one.

It was a pretty typical day for Shira -- when she wasn't working on a letter home that she'd probably never actually send, she was dusting and straightening or else unpacking and putting away and restocking. It was a routine, but it was a routine she'd come to enjoy over the months she'd had the job. Between this and the library -- and of course classes -- she had a rather comfortable routine.

It was almost strange having a routine that didn't involve hiding to stay safe, she reflected, even after so many months of being at Fandom. Despite her time there, it still more than occasionally took her by surprise that things were the way they were.

But even that wasn't a bad thing, she decided as she finished unpacking a box of books on... well, she wasn't sure what they were on, she couldn't read the titles. She proceeded to put those back in the box and stack it off to the side just in case. She wanted someone else to make sure those were safe to put out.

Shira felt slightly better than death warmed over. Damnable chest cold that she couldn't seem to get rid of, even with the potions and blends she'd made herself over the past few days. Maybe she'd go find Karla later, see if she could help. Or maybe she'd just go back to the dorm after work and go back to bed. Either one would work.

But at least she wasn't coughing anymore, something she counted as a good thing considering it was Wednesday and that meant work.

She moved around the shop slowly, putting things away and not doing too much dusting because the dusting made her cough. She'd be extra diligent about it next week, she promised herself.

People might have to actually physically stop her from moving the things they wanted.

Yes, it was one of those days.

Shira didn't quite understand all of Thanksgiving, though she got the obvious parts -- the giving thanks, the eating food, the celebrating with loved ones. It kind of made her a little sad for the people back home, even though they didn't have the holiday back home.

Though not so sad that she couldn't go through her normal day at the Magic Box. She unpacked shipments and stocked them, tidied up a little, and then settled down behind a counter.

It was a good day, even if she was a little overly thinky.

Shira was busy cleaning the shop. It wasn't messy, but when she had nothing else to do, she cleaned. It was either that or write yet another letter home that left out half of the Fandom shenanigans in the name of sparing Ranon's brain. She figured she'd send that letter after the next fiasco to happen.

So she was sweeping and dusting and cleaning windows and doing whatever else she could come up with in order to tidy the place up.

This was what slow days did to her, people.

Shira was missing home something fierce after her impromptu trip back over the weekend. But she wasn't going to dwell on it, not when she had a job to do.

Even if said job didn't involve much in the way of actual work today, it being a fairly slow day and all. She was finding work to do... so yeah, those displays in the windows might've been reorganized half a dozen times, sorry.

It was a good day, though, if a little overly thinky. She could live with that.

It was a slow day in the shop, and there wasn't anything to unpack today, which meant that Shira had the time to sit back and enjoy the day once she tidied up and rearranged a few things.

First up? Writing a letter home, because she still hadn't told anyone that she was a library aide, too. So she wrote that letter, leaving out that the library had anything like Special Collections, or even that the regular books occasionally had minds of their own. She'd save that for another time.

No need to have Ranon and the others ready to descend on Fandom just yet.

Shira was alternately worrying about Cassidy and throwing herself into her work to avoid worrying about Cassidy. It kind of varied in the space of five-minute stretches, really.

At the moment, she was paging through one of her books on healing, trying to see if there were any Craft spells she could work on Cassidy's mind to help her Queen's worries. So far, no such luck, but she was going to keep looking. And she'd found a few things that might be interesting to experiment with, but she just made note of those and kept reading.

She'd help anyone who came in, but until then? All with the reading.

Since going back to her room at the hotel probably wasn't the best idea after the detention raid, Isabel and some of the others had made there way to one of the safe spots in the warehouse district.  It seemed the best place to lay low for the time being.

Since people still needed food, Isabel made a call to a sympathetic barista at the Perk and slipped out the door.  Thirty minutes and one dead Madri later, she returned with two boxes of coffee and a bag of bagels.  It wasn't much, but it was probably better then anyone that had been in detention had seen in a while.

"Who's hungry?"

She had been cooped up too long. That room had been filled with death and decay and madness. She would never be caged again.

Wings held proud, she flew high, tasting the feel of the night air upon her skin. The stars were out. They were exquisite.

And now, she put her hands over her head and called down the maelstrom. A small localized tornado spun away, churning debris in its wake.

Someone was going to pay.

(OOC: yeah so Rinoa's snapped. She will tangle with anyone right now, loyalist, resistance, OR neutral, if they feel like throwing down. Or just look at her funny. So if you want to have a (non-lethal*) smackdown, let's do this. (*Rinoa has places to be after she gets her powers back on a leash zomg.)

And lastly: Squall's thread will be chronologically last.)

Karla had been patrolling this morning and, Mother Night, was it such a rush. The ability to do as she pleased--so long as she was obeying the rules, of course!--when she pleased and where she pleased was practically intoxicating. She'd been skulking and hiding for so long, hoarding her Craft like a miser, Bah! What kind of life was what? She should have known she was on the wrong side from the moment she'd realized she couldn't be a proper witch as long as she was with the Resistance.

She was using Craft right now, in fact. There were flamingos and the odd squirrel that sometimes took it into their head to make noises at her. Karla was showing them exactly why one didn't sass one of the High Inquisitor's most faithful. No fatalities yet, but the reek of scorched feathers and singed fur lay heavy in the air.

In all, it was a good day.

Once the shipments were put away, she sat behind a counter to work on scribbling out her letter, taking advantage of the quiet moments between customers to get things written down.

It was a peaceful day, all in all.

Shira was busy today, busy unpacking a shipment and cleaning up the area where she was putting it. It was a nice change of pace from the lazier days when shipments had already been put up by whoever had the days before her.

She got everything set up on the shelves and stood back, hands on her hips as she studied the display. She wrinkled her nose and reached out to adjust something. There, that was better.

Just a nice, normal day. She liked those.

It was a quiet day at work -- so far, at least; that was always subject to change -- and so Shira had taken advantage of the quiet to do more than just tidy up. Shira was still riding on the relief of everybody that she cared about existing again. In Fandom, anyway. She still needed to check on the Reserves. But still, everybody from Fandom was there again and that alone was cause for relief.

She might've been singing to herself as she moved around the shop, a song from back home. Something nobody would recognize, at any rate. One of the first times she'd felt comfortable enough to sing a song from home.

For as long as Zoe could remember, she'd always had to be the solid one in any given group. When Wash had died, she'd known instantly that she couldn't let her emotions show in front of anyone but the ghost in her quarters. It was Mal's job to fly off the handle, to swear and shoot people, and it was her job to be a rock, and to bring him back to stability.

In Fandom, the situation was very much the same every time something terrible happened. Zoe knew that no matter how bad things got, she had to be strong, because falling apart in front of the students, or even the teachers, just wasn't an option.

Which, she supposed, made Anakin her Mal here, if only because imagining Deadpool in tight pants made Zoe's brain do things it oughtn't.

Cameron was gone. Her family was gone. Only Grace was left, and that was because Zoe wasn't letting her more than an arms length away. Her handwavey radio call for an emergency town hall meeting wasn't just about gathering information and rallying everyone together, although it was certainly damn time for that. Hopefully, it would provide a good head count for who was still left on the island. However many people came, it wouldn't be enough to make Zoe feel better, but maybe it would be a start.

After Dinah's last phone call, the last thing that Karla had felt like doing was going into work. But it was that or stay in her room all day and look at pictures, so several hours after her shift was supposed to have begun, Karla dragged herself into the store.

Only to be confronted by a stack of heavy cardboard boxes, taller than she was. The address on all of the boxes were for a store Karla'd never heard of, but the scrawled note on the inventory sheet said, Had enough trouble getting them over the causeway. They're staying!. Okaaaaay?

Inside the boxes were rows and rows of snow globes. These were definitely not for 'Dite's shop. Rather than anything naughty or even slightly risqué, they featured warm and friendly holiday decorations with such inspiring messages as The Holidays Are a Time for Friends and Family! and Remembering You Fondly This Holiday Season! After her morning--after her week--such cutesy messages of friendship and remembrance hurt.

Karla hadn't realized she was smashing one until it was hurtling through the air and slamming onto the floor of the shop, spraying glass and sparkles and fake snow everywhere. And? It felt good. She slammed another. And then another. And another and another and another still, flinging snow globes until her arm hurt.

This was kind of therapeutic.

Soon, there was a sign in the window: ANGRY AT THE WORLD? OR THE LACK OF IT? COME WORK THROUGH YOUR ISSUES WITH WANTON DESTRUCTION! 3 GLOBES FOR A DOLLAR.

An adventure of the good kind, thankfully, as she had yet to have anything happen with the merchandise.

Of course, that meant it was only a matter of time. But for the moment, she was uneventfully unpacking boxes. Yay, uneventful!
